- Sensible World Of Soccer is an iconic game from the 1990s, to some it's a long-distant memory or even forgotten.
With the help of a great mod by sensiblesoccer.de the game is brought back to life!
NOTE
At 13:31 there's a slight freeze and sync issue with corrects itself, that was my recording software having a glitch out moment and not the game.
I hope more players will return to this great game by Sensible Software, one of the best developers of all time.
If only someone would rebuild this to play on modern day console - it would be ideal for the switch, or other handhelds - amazing to see it alive and well after all these years.
Sadly the main man behind the project focuses on PC and has just released the Amiga version. I fear the console markets are not used because of licencing and other loopholes to jump through.
@@LULZCREW It will be licencing challenges - and who actually owns the sensible soccer code maybe another mystery - purely as Jon Hare sold out as I recall.
I imagine this should play well on Steam Deck.

@@zigzagtoes Might explain why we have never seen it - EA would struggles to make it fulfil their monetisation policy ala Fifa.
Best football game ever
I only recently discovered this and are super impressed so far! I'm also discovering that I can't play Sensi using a gamepad's d-pad or analogue stick so I suppose I now need to buy a USB adaptor for my trusty old Competition Pro joystick.
Its a great mod to keep the classic game alive. A lot of work has gone into it. I managed to play using a XBOX 360 pad, II think both the analogue stick and d pad worked.
@@LULZCREW Yeah, I just can't control the ball when using a 360 pad's d-pad or analogue stick! I might buy an arcade stick.

Download and played few seasons, only thing for me is you can't accept any job offers anybody know why.
By the way; you can push down (or up depending on which half you play) when the goalkeeper has the ball and you can shoot further up the pitch.
Yeh and some players, especially the ones that play on the online multiplayer feature can do some brilliant curlers and fancy tricks using the after shot up, down, left and right. I have not quite mastered it yet ;) Gonna take some practice

uhm hello i have a problem the game allows me only to play with the mouse which is a bit complicated i set everything to keybored and its not working
Sorry for the delay in reply, there will be a upcoming video answering these questions that might help more. If your using the menu in the menu and to start the game, it will for some reason default to mouse control. I set my keys and used them within the menu and had the fire button set to 0. When using the keyboard to select the options and start the game, it worked in keyboard mode. I hope that helps ;)

Does this mod overwrite the original 96/97 version or is it possible to play either version?
Hey Brian, the mod installs to a new directory, create a new one, or use the default C:\Games\SWOS 2020. The original game directory, you can run and it's still the old game. So yes, both versions are installed at the same time. If you love SWOS, you'll love what the guys at sensiblesoccer.de have done with the modded version ;)
Does this have online capability on other gaming community servers. Been watching on the sidelines for a couple of decades. And know about the scene.
If this could be introduced to the retro online community lile ggpo (not sure if still used) or fightcade. Then it has a chance to grow

This game uses GGPO for its netcode, and has its own built in matchmaking, with online leagues etc

How did you get the 22/23 templates updated? When I installed and updated it, I see the player squads for the 2020/2021 season. Can you help me?
Ok... I just reinstalled it and didnt have to change anything for it to be the 22-23 season. So.. The only thing I did, on the SWOS Game Launcher, under Version, you have to click on each one of them and click OK for it to update. So on mine after the updates, the Team Database is version 2023-0602-0331, Launcher is v5.4.1 and finally SWOS executable is v5.4.8. If yours is the same it should be 22-23 season. Please let us know if you fixed it ;)

Wtf, i've been away from this game too long, the commentary, stadiums, even the training pitch looks like a training pitch with its white barrier surround. I need to blow off the dust of the gog folder and get this patched.
Hope you manage to jump onto SWOS, the database is always updated and they do a fine job. The new season databases are usually released in late October / early November. I'll sure you'll have a great amount of fun playing it again with the current squads and all the mods you can apply like stadiums, sounds etc. One thing I learned is on online multiplayer, the people I have played so far have been really good LOL!!! Get the game and patch it up! Have fun ;)

Sadly not I dont think, unless its featured within the DLC area. If you get Discord, and use this link: discord.com/invite/jFsBSSw then you could ask in there. The main guy behind the project "Playaveli" is active daily in there.

Hello my friend, sorry its taken so long to reply. I found time to have a play around, and I think I solved your query. When I loaded up the game, and entered career mode, to change it from "ENG" hold down the fire button and at the same time use the left and right and it changes the nationality. Hope this helps ;) If your still struggling please reply back.

You can still buy the game from GOG @ www.gog.com/en/game/sensible_world_of_soccer_9697 and then apply the free mod from sensiblesoccer.de/swos-2020

First of all, you need Sensible World of Soccer 96/97 installed. This is available on GOG, or else where, basically Google is your friend here. Then head over to www.sensiblesoccer.de/swos-2020 and download the mod for the game. Install the mod, and follow the instructions. Let me know if you have any problems after you have followed the instructions. Good luck ;)

Yes... When you load the game up and go into compete, career mode is selectable in there ;)

I downloaded the game and tried to play it a while back, but it wouldn't pick up my controller properly (which works perfectly with other games) and made it impossible to play, PLUS the game is way too difficult and it is impossible to score. I quickly got tired of it and uninstalled it.
