The symbolism in this scene is very strong. I think a lot of people in the comments really don’t know the source material. In the books and comics, Tarzan snaps Buffalo necks and has killed a bunch of Mangani with his bare hands. This dude is superhuman, man. I think that people who are familiar with the source material would be expecting stuff like this. I’m pretty sure that most versions of Tarzan are superhuman. He’s an illogical character, yes, but that’s intentional. He is not supposed to be logical, he’s essentially a comic book character.
Yeah I use to read the novels and comic's, most of them say by the time Tarzan was a kid around the age of 10 he would have been as strong as a full grown 30 year old man
No, it's possibly accurate. Being raised as an ape, Tarzan should have the strength of his legs in his arms. The part I find fault with is this... Tarzan was raised as a chimpanzee, not a gorilla.
@@wytche3546 No, it’s not realistic. Gorillas don’t raise humans.

Are you saying the opening close line should have snapped a normal neck and ended the fight *permanently* ?
Do you mean being thrown against a tree with that kind of force should have broken so many bones and ruptured organs that it would have ended the fight *permanently* ?
Are you implying the crushing blows to the back and spine should have obliterated them and ended his life *permanently* ?

@@jaysanders1347 No, take the biggest strongest man on earth, lets use Brian Shaw as an example. 6'8 400lb world strong man title holder. Silverback Gorilla is still going to literally rip his face off in the first minute of the fight. They are not normal animals, highly intelligent, they say they posses the awareness of a 7 year old human child. They understand your eyes are used to see, neck used to breathe, genitals are sensitive and vulnerable in the same way we understand those facts, which is why the first thing apes usually do when they attack is literally rip your face off and gouge out your eyes. Even if Brian somehow avoids this initial onslaught and takes the gorillas back to try and choke it, they will bite, have you seen their teeth? puts a dogs K9s to shame.. Gorillas grip strength powerful enough to crush bone, tear limbs from sockets. No human on earth has any chance against gorilla without a gun.
@@JordansTake35 what about strongest man on earth vs a chimp
Is Samuel L. Jackson in every movie? Didnt even know he was in Tarzan.
Everyone saying it’s insane how durable he was but let me put it into perspective how in theory it isn’t that far fetched.
First of all Tarzan grew up in the wild and spent a lot of it play fighting with gorillas meaning his skin is gonna be substantially tougher than any normal human. It’s similar to how monks and things that study martial arts have extremely hard knuckles that don’t really feel pain.
Secondly most of the blows he took to his back. Now a gorilla is much stronger than a person however a human can withstand up to 7 times the damage on their back than they can on their front meaning considering the gorilla only hit him 2 or 3 times on his back the first time and another 2 or 3 the second time it isn’t too far fetched he isn’t doing too badly with the combination of his tougher skin and higher pain tolerance and the fact most blows were on his back.
Finally while a gorilla is much stronger than a person they don’t have techniques and things to utilise 100 percent of their strength like trained humans do meaning that every blow he received is no where near the full strength of the gorilla.
While it’s a bit of a push and he definitely shouldn’t be getting back to his feet any time soon! It isn’t as far fetched as people seem to think.
I like how they went a bit more realistic than the animated where 18 year old Tarzan restrained and put a fully grown silver back gorilla in a choke hold and somehow held him down
In the comic Tarzan is as strong as a gorilla

Noone in the comment section watched the original cartoon and shows. Tarzan was literally the strongest during his time in that jungle. The Gorillas knew that. And whilst we can't see any subtitles or what they're saying, you can be damn sure Akut and Tarzan were talking too. Akut was proving they don't need him for protection anymore, he's stronger now. Tarzan was proving he never deserted.
While obviously a gorilla would absolutely obliterate the strongest human in existence, the point of this movie is a bit of a sci-fi take in which Tarzan’s body, WHILE HUMAN, has been engrained and toughened in possibly one of the most dangerous places on Earth since he was a child, letting him gain just enough strength and endurance to survive with a very upgraded species of gorilla. The point of the movie is that the animals are massively exaggerated versions of themselves, but so are the humans. Any normal human being would have literally died seconds into the beating Tarzan took, and he managed to walk away with a few broken bones and cuts. It’s just cool to see a version where this super sought out matchup actually happens, even if it’s in a super fictional movie.
I totally agree with your comment. The point of the Tarzan stories is the he is a man physically conditioned far past what is humanly possible.
Despite the CGI being a bit jank, I think this is a pretty decent fight scene. It would be silly if Tarzan KO'ed Akut with a right cross or something, and it would be an insult to the Tarzan character if the Ape beat him with little effort.
Jackson's expression at 1:08 is meme worthy.

There's a tradition in folklore and fiction of "feral humans" raised by animals, living like them and therefore becoming as strong as an animal. The adult Mowgli from Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Books is another example. Even Robert E. Howard's Conan, as a "barbarian," was physically superior to "civilized men."
Edgar Rice Burroughs made it clear in his books that Tarzan is much stronger, faster, and tougher than even the greatest human athlete who has lived as a man, rather than a beast.
Yeah there was no hypothetical way he could even defeat a gorilla that size.
There’s also no way a man can be raised by apes. It’s a movie.
Unless he were a zombie.
He didn't
Yea dude Definetly not a fictional movie or anything
I remember watching a documentary on finding Nemo. They brought this fish specialist in to help with the movement of the fish and the realism. At one moment while animating Dory the specialist exclaimed that the fish's fins can't extend that high in reality as it's underlying musculature doesn't allow it.
The animator turned and looked at him and said "uuhhhh....... these fish can't speak either so..........".
