Eotopia’s Utopian Gift Economy

This new release is somewhat different that the short films you're used from us. Treat it more like a podcast, it's a 16min film on Bejamins attempt to live a moneyless life. First during a long travel from Netherlands to Mexico, then while settling down to start a community called Eotopia.
Eotopia is an ecovillage that tries to find a balance between idealism and pragmatism. One of the founders, Benjamin, has very strong ideals and also said he's learning more and more to also accept that to live means to make compromises. Benjamin used to live without money for six (!) years and believes in a gift economy. Now having a family and living in community this is not entirely possible. But the spirit of gift economy is very alive here. Volunteers are not expected to work a certain amount of hours in exchange for food and shelter. They can contribute whatever and however they feel like. It was special to be there and to experience the vibe of freedom and trust.

Le concept est bien, mais dans ce genre de situation, on se retrouve souvent avec autant de regles et de manipulation que dans le monde "normal". Les babas ne sont pas toujours cool.

Ce n’est pas une ZAD non plus... ils disent qu’ils n’ont pas eu à instaurer de système de règles formelles pour gérer la communauté mais pas qu’ils se fichent des lois de la République
