How to tie the Rusty Spinner

After a good hatch on the river knowing when the fish have switched onto the dead and dying adults can make a huge difference to your session. After the fish have finished taking the emerging and adult flies there can often be a short pause in the action. If you are patient though and often when the light is fading you can still enjoy some top sport.
The Spinner is often the last fly to grace the cast and it helps to have a little torch attached to the peak of your cap when changing flies. The importance of having the right profile is crucial and this little spinner does just that.

Always a pleasure to watch. Just watched Charlie Craven tie a spinner and Barry splitting the tails so I now have plenty of instruction. I love your practical applications of materials. I think my Scottish heritage although dating back to the 1880's when we came to NZ runs deep in my veins as roadkill forms a large proportion of my dubbing mixes..

Just having a wee chuckle, I learned that too last week on Barry's channel.
Definitely will tie a few of these but I'm not sure if I'll get to use them.

Lindsay, have used these down to size 22. I had to file down the tippet with my teeth to get it on. Lindsay I mean this with buckets of respect, I’m not sure about that hook, or style of hook, seems a little large for a small delicate bug. How well does it float? Great tie none the less👍

Hi Pal, Thanks for watching the video. The hook is very good for strength to to weight it holds up no problem with this type of pattern to be fair this is the biggest I would tie this fly. The reason I use the bigger hooks in the video is I think it can help folks see what I am doing better. I actually use this dry fly hook #20 for micro nymphs as well they are really good. Whats your preferred hook for dry fly?
