Marriage has many types but the common types are monogamy and polygamy. Love, arranged and elopement marriages are commonly found in the Kalash community. Love marriage is one of the important and most common types of marriage in the Kalash community.
Weddings in the Kalash Valley are a very important and joyous occasion for the Kalash people, and they are celebrated with great enthusiasm and festivity. The Kalash wedding ceremony is a unique and colorful event, steeped in tradition and ritual.
The wedding preparations usually begin months in advance, with the families of the bride and groom making elaborate arrangements for the wedding feast, decorations, and gifts. The wedding ceremony itself typically lasts for three days and is attended by family members, friends, and members of the wider community.
On the first day of the wedding, the bride is prepared for the ceremony by being bathed in a special herbal bath, and then dressed in traditional Kalash clothing, which is brightly colored and adorned with intricate embroidery and beadwork. The groom also wears traditional clothing and is accompanied by his family and friends.
On the second day of the wedding, the bride is taken to the groom's house, where the marriage is officially solemnized in a traditional ceremony conducted by a Kalash priest. This ceremony involves the exchange of gifts and the recitation of prayers and blessings, and it is attended by the entire community.
On the third day of the wedding, a feast is held, which is attended by all the guests. The feast usually consists of traditional Kalash dishes, such as biryani, chapli kebab, and shorba, and it is accompanied by music, dancing, and singing.
Overall, the Kalash wedding is a beautiful and joyous celebration of love and community, and it is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Kalash people.
