Being working class and proud my issue with the Conservative Party is that very few of them are aware of the real world and its problems because they have never mingled with the "Working Class" of our country, and I was very impressed with Kemi Badenoch who raised a few eyebrows when she claimed she grew up in a middle-class family but "became working class" after getting a job at McDonald's aged 16. She said the job was the "first time I ever interacted properly with people who didn't come from the sort of background that I came from". In fact, I am a Labour Party member (by all means, accuse me of being a liar, if you want, but I don't see the point of lying about this fact). But Sir Keir has not done well since coming into power, although I *do* think the budget was in principle well-conceived (my misgivings about the end to the £2 bus fare cap and the long-touted end to WFA for pensioners on more than £11.5K pa, excepted), as it *mostly* places the 'burden' on those who derive their wealth from assets and minimises the burden to actual workers (and the argument about what constitutes 'workers,' was, IMHO, silly and driven by privileged-interests, much like the opposition to VAT on private school fees, a policy I also support, not out of spite towards the privately-educated, but because state schools desparetely NEED that money). That said, Sir Keir needs to up his game, especially now Sunak is being replaced, and particularly if he's up against a relatively young Black woman who doesn't have Sir Keir's private school/Oxbridge privileges.
Sir Kier didn't have a priviledged backround. his parents never paid school fees. His school turned private whilst he was there, so he was on on the old (state Ed) rules. He got to Uni on merit.
