I like Johnson City and have lived in the area all my life, but I've got to tell you: this is misleading. Neither the Appalachian Trail nor the Great Smoky Mountains are in Johnson City. The Applachian Trail starts around the Nolichucky River in Unicoi County, which is approximately 20-25 miles away, and the Smokies are approximately 130 miles away to the southeast. While the city is improving all the time, we are, unfortunately, always behind the rest of the country and definitely not a smaller equivalent of Asheville. We always seem to be late to the party to get anything (unless it's the bottom of the barrel), business and community leaders/planners tend to think "small," and if we do get something fairly nice (stores, businesses, services) it's usually YEARS after the rest of the country has been enjoying it. That being said, the area is beautiful and full of usually kind and friendly people. It has a slower pace of life, which I like, and it still has churches that teach and preach the truth from the Bible.
We moved to JC last year and think it's great. We aren't wanting for much in shopping and restaurants, and not wanting for anything at all with medical care. It's a nice place to live.
@@GenxGypsy1968 if you like German food you really need to go to Freiburgs on E. Main. It is located in an old bank...said to have been a hang out of Al Capone.
Were planning of moving in Johnson city, were from new mexico. Probably 2 years from now. Housing Market is really crazy right now. But were looking forward of moving there 🤞hows the tornado in there? Thats all im scared of.
Please don’t go to downtown or the beauty spot! There have been several murders at the beauty spot and then several shootings in downtown! Downtown is where 90% of our homeless is and a lot of gangs hang out down there. Don’t go past 6:00pm!
I did not experience or see any homeless or gangs when I was in downtown Johnson City... I found it to be very pretty and charming with some fantastic restaurants and breweries 😊
Omg Kara buck up and deal with having to look at a couple homeless, just like any city. I don’t think there are any gangs and if you don’t go looking for trouble you won’t find it. Very safe, however best not to walk alone if you are a female. The more people go downtown the safer is will become. ETSU helps I think, which OP didn’t mention it is a college town. I haven’t heard of murders at beauty spot, but they did find a hikers body along the trail one time. We do need some better parking options too.
OK so I asked around at work about murders at the beauty spot and my coworker said “yeah actually my cousin murdered a couple people up there, but that was years ago”.

@You_Tube Who cares what you think about it? If you live there, move somewhere else. If you don’t live there, then don’t go there.

Because its in the mountains, the area rarely gets tornados. If you do decide to move there I have a friend who is a realtor in the area 😊
Did you all make the move?
Great job! I’m a Tri-Cities native and lived in JC for several years. Thanks for visiting and sharing! P.S. #palssuddenservice is THE BEST!
Thank you!! I LOVED Pals 😁. Perfect for post hike calories, LOL!
What month is this in? Also, is there a temperature difference from Asheville? I would assume so, but I know what assume means.
We were there the end of April. Johnson City is only about 45 minutes from Asheville, so their weather is pretty similar 😊
Horrible video title. "Tired of homeless junkies? Come to JC and ruin this place too."
Very good job ❤❤❤❤
Do not go to johnson city. They live in 1901 pay is low and Real estate expensive.

Yikes! Was gonna visit this fall but sounds like I should just keep myself in the mountains.
