One of the things I think people don’t often consider is that all 5 of them are nearly *always* singing. There’s no break...no guitar solo, drum solo, extra backup singers or musical interlude to give the lead vocal a break like in a traditional band. Each individual seamlessly transitions in and out from lead vocal to backup vocal/percussion. In a 90 minute concert they’re singing nearly the entire time and their individual parts are often very complex musically and rhythmically. Mad respect for this band.
No, not all of the Pentaholics have left the building. Glad to see you back for more PTX, Since your last reaction, they have dropped a new album (all original songs, including "Be My Eyes", which you've already done) and done the rounds on the talk shows, producing a variety of "live" performances (the audio is live, but there are video productions attached to the the live performance, so it looks more like an official video). You might be interested in them
Right this brings so much nostalgia to many of us. Compared to today, those were innocent happy times. Just clean good times. Glad your back. Still here. Did not leave
Just saw a video with them about how they start an arrangement - they start with Kevin doing the beats, then Matt (Avi in the early days) drops in the bass, then they figure out the background vocals, and lay the lead over the top.
One of their creative processes is that they will take a song and make it into a piano cover. Then they will break down the parts based on the piano version.
This one has Autotune in two places to make it sound like the originals, which were playing around with Autotune as a special effect. It's on Blue and on the Cher song.
Cher was the first singer to use autotune as an artistic effect instead of a corrective measure. At the time, people referred to it as "The Cher Effect".
In a cover their arranger and the reason PTX exists Ben Bram and for sure Kevin and the others get in a room or now over zoom (stupid rhyme but I couldn't help it) figure out Kevin's part, then Avi/Matts part and then they all figure out how they want the track to sound. There are a lot of videos of them arranging songs out there. Ben isn't in any of them but I'll put a couple of links in here for you. If they arrange them first like on tour then they get with Ben and he puts all the signature Pentatonix silent breaks or walls of sound or whatever in there. If any pentaholics disagree, feel free to correct me. Here is a video of them arranging "Happy" by Pharrell. ruclips.net/video/DHAC95bWnig/видео.html.
Pentatonix formed in 2011 for a competition called The Sing-off. You can see their full development as their audition was their first time performing as a quintet.
LOL I was 20 years old in 1991 and all these songs were my clubbing music but i have a real affinity to deep house music.......mellow but yet with a slammin' beat :)
Another music reactor Jacob Restiuto actually interviewed Ben Brahm the music arranger for Pentatonix. You could check it out to see how they put it together.
Picking one favorite 90's song would be like asking me to pick a favorite child....I'll never put it out on the internet but if you sit down next to me and take a guess, I won't say no if and when you guess correctly 😄
Reading your disclaimer... I hope you haven't had any troubles with Pentatonix fans. We love you, really! So great to see you back in the PTX rabbit hole.
If you want to see great beatboxing, check out Kevin's channel. He plays Cello and beat boxing at the same time - it's called "Cello Boxing". In a song progression, they start with the beat boxing, add bass, then layer the medody. It's amazing.
Check out the making of evergreen their latest album, they show how they lay it all down. And Ben Bram has done interviews talking about how they do it.

Gotta admit... didnt really laugh at anything until the.. "u make it sound like we're a couple"... "after all we been through". That shit cracked me up
Ahh, yeah... PENT-A-TONIX 80s, 90s, definitely some great tunes. Not all, but plenty, new music - makes its way to people via social networks and even platforms like Spotify and Amazon - because they're new(er) artists that usually are not on the radio, at least yet. Personally, I listen to radio a LOT more rarely now, but I also don't find a lot of new stuff as a result. MOST often the ones I start following I find via social networks, excluding RUclips. Otherwise, I hear tunes I've never heard before via reaction videos.
My favorite dance song of the 90s was "Shoop" by Salt n' Pepa. I knew every single word and still know 90% of the words. If you haven't done "Love Me When I Don't" which is an original written by Kirstin, do the one from the ptx official you tube page. I'm so glad you guys came back to pentatonix. I missed you reactions to them.
This was so much fun thank you just what was needed I don't think this video has been blocked once yet It weird as its not on Spotify either strange haha thank you for a great reaction please bring more back ☺️
I'm so late to this party, and I'm not super convinced you'll see this comment, but watching you two try to wrap your heads around the musical miracle that is Pentatonix is something I'm here for. I completely understand why you want so badly to see live versions of some of these songs, and the cell phone recordings that are out there obviously leave a lot to be desired. All that to say, they started on the Sing Off, and those were live performances for the judges when they happened. It might satisfy that need you've got to see it happen in real life.... Just in case you happen to spot this, here's their performances from season 3 of the Sing Off. Keep in mind that although Scott, Mitch, and Kirsten had been singing together for years, they picked up Avi and Kevin just before they went on the show - if I remember correctly, Kevin joined with only a few days to spare. Anyway. 5, 7, 10, and 12 are my favorites, and 12 is just.... well, hopefully you'll see. ✌🏽 ruclips.net/p/PLbkNvKwZr7Mm8zHHMAln2DqRq0BtBHf_M
There's a mini track breakdown of their Daft punk medley on the web, and also on here they did use Autotune (or whatever it's called) For Cher to keep the song sounding the same. Lol and also the end credits was Ptx :) :) You should react to Mitch singing Billie Eillish's "Your Power"
Still here! (said exactly like the grandma on The Croods) Are you guys gonna do Billie's new song? Oh! And Olivia Rodrigo?? If you haven't heard about her yet, she's a new(ish... disney kid, but not a disney artist) artist. Dropped her debut single a few months ago and has three out now and her album dropping on Friday. She's already breaking records including her first single hitting 100 million streams faster than anyone else, and IMO it's well earned. I really hope you check her out!
If you check out any of the songs from their HOME album put out this past year, they each recorded the audio and video separately from their own homes during lockdown and sent them to their producer to put together into the track. They also released their Can't Sleep Love original with the separate parts in their own videos for fun along with the finished one. So there's, like, Can't Sleep Love - Mitch and you just see him doing his parts in the whole video... which got chopped up with the others into the official release.
Both your faces on Every Time We Touch seemed like you guys weren't familiar with it. If that's right, please check it out! It's probably my favorite "dance" song and the video is so great!! (Artist is Cascada)
@@notbanksy2977 okay, but the version PTX is covering is the Cascada version, and that's the one that's my favorite, so that information doesn't have any affect on my original comment.
I know you haven't reacted to them in a while (probably because you didn't like it) but Superfruit has two Ep's out and they're really good also you should definitely react to Superfruit Hip Hop goes Broadway 1 & 2 make sure to stay till the end for bloopers if you do.
We Pentahalics are still here and watching. Your great and funny.
Thanks for the reaction to this fun Pentatonix medley. It's been a long time since your last Pentatonix reaction. Welcome back.
We’re still here!
Nope, I'm laughing - you guys have a healthy mix of respect for PTX and good humour. Great reaction, thanks guys :)
I am still here - thanks for the reaction
Let's say Sporto looks like he could be Scott's uncle.
😂😂😂
Kirsten with that leather jacket, reminded me a lot Sandy on the movie Grease
Yeah, I was laughing with the soup and spoon story!!

The songs that get blocked tend to be the ones released on albums.
All of these songs were very popular in Europe. I feel like Americans don't know many of them
I saw the old videos of them winning an accopella talent show ..
Most other groups had way more voices...
.it was live and they were spectacular!!!
The Sing-off in 2011. It was my son's senior year of high school.
Earlier mitch used to record first, and then the rest but idk if that’s still how they do it
