    Nothing more fun than working on old car or truck back in little garage or outside it in a grassy area under an old tree with no one around to bother you.

    This is the last year for the bed on my 2002 Dodge Ram. I've been watching different videos and even got to see one today up close and personal. I believe I will sand and repaint the frame while I'm at it.
    Nice job and nice video.

      @@meridethmade100 I plan on doing this to my 98. F-150 also a long bed. If you're not going to talk in the video this is definitely the way to do it ! Everything was very self-explanatory. Did you come across any hiccups along the way that may help me out? Keep up the good work Buddy

    Cool, I would have made it one board wider .

  • @MasterMoonClap
    @MasterMoonClap Год назад

    Getting those boards on the bed perfectly straight can be a pain in the ass. It's easiest if you've got a straight reference, like a chalk line on the first board. Then you make your way down the board with your screws, adjusting for bows in the wood as you go. Then you can measure the gap for the rest of your boards, or just eye it.

    Thanks for sharing, I am in the process of doing just that and have an issue with the fuel filler neck. Not sure if I should lift the bed higher or run the neck through the flatbed portion and out the wall.

    Hi I really like the way you made it, I want to do mine the same, but I’m wondering what did you use the square box Steele for ? And what wood did you use for the deck, I’m thinking yellow pine is ok stained?
    Thanks for the inspiration

    • @meridethmade100
      @meridethmade100  3 года назад +2

      The steel was used as a spacer , the frame isn’t flat so the front had to be spaced up so all the boards set evenly. The wood is just tested pine .

    Nice backyard project, next time just do a little math and make all the boards the same width, cut them all down instead of only cutting the last 2 boards you installed. That left you with a 1” noddle board that screams I fucked up lol

    Why put such a large space in between the pieces of wood. Why not but them tightly together

    • @bradzcustoms
      @bradzcustoms Год назад +1

      Usually you leave a gap because wood swells and shrinks with different temperatures. If they were too close together, they could break the fasteners, possibly cause other damages

    Is it okay to make the truck bed longer than the hitch? I don’t plan on using is trying to get a little more length I don’t know if there is a code for that or not

    • @mattmadison4731
      @mattmadison4731 3 года назад

      If you are going to make the bed longer and use wood I would suggest no longer then maybe 2 feet and I would use 2x6 length wise from cab running backwards then notch 4x4 with the 4x6 as cross braces use 2x for the top decking beware this will be heavy might have to redo springs but built this way has worked for years on the farm

  • @grizzlya1257

    What species of wood did you use and were there any corrosion issues where the wood sat on the truck frame? A lot of internet chatter about both PT and white oak being corrosive to the truck frame.

    • @Nimesh222
      @Nimesh222 3 года назад +2

      Yea I am very curious about that too. What if you use a galvanized steel small plate or something where the beam touches the body. You think that could prevent it ?
