If we ever bite the bullet and start charging the fair price for all of that stolen water would be able to make enough water to replenish all of aquifers we have depleted. Will never happen because all the spoiled brats in LA are used to free (stolen) water. Used to be a lake out there and a town by the lake, too!
Caught a couple browns there on Saturday. 2 of em were eater size but I threw em back. Got a decent sized bass. Maybe 2lb. Biggest i've caught out of there.
@@exploringcalifornia9110 Not this time! I was fishing mainly zebra midges in the size 18-22 range. Water was pretty dirty so I kept getting hung up on unseen structure
Sometimes... It's just the way it is…..I’ve lost about $300 worth of surf lures in one session… every time I get snapped off, ... it's $50 bucks... I cast hard at the beach... with old school conventional gear…..It's not rocks or snags
Ugh, I feel your pain. That's a lot of lures to lose in one session. But your choice of Thomas Buoyant Spoons is a good one. I discovered them last year and they are my "go to" lure for stocked trout here in the Midwest. Just a couple of thoughts--take 'em or leave them. First, maybe think about a heavier line. IMO, 2# test seems unnecessarily light for a stream like the Owens. Maybe plus up to 4# or even 6#. Second, think about switching out the trebles on your spoon to a single hook (siwash hooks in size #8 work well on the 1/6 oz. Thomas). That should result in fewer snags and shouldn't hurt hook ups. Thanks for posting. California has some incredible trout fishing in some beautiful areas. When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in the 1980s, I did some trout fishing in the Golden Trout Wilderness, Sequoia National Park, some stocked lakes in the mountains on board Camp Pendleton and in some streams in the mountains west of San Diego. Good luck with your channel!
Love thomas lures, been using them for almost 30 years now. As for the line, 2lb is all I use, anywhere. There are too many benefits for me to switch to anything else, I do have spools of 4lb and 6lb but those are overkill for the fish I target , which are between 2lb-10lb. As for the line sinking, I don't want that in a river setting like this.. I want it to act like a parachute in the current to drag the spoon into natural current channels where the fish will be waiting for the baits to go by. Also, 2lb izor is really strong, I've landed bows to 11lbs using it.....Appreciate your comments! Thanks for watchin.
Rule #1: I stop counting lost lures after five! 😅 Can’t buy new ones if you don’t loose some here and there. Bishop is always a great place to loose them Lol. Great Vid.👍🏽
Rapala rainbow trout pattern.. hooked on a brown popped off then got stuck on a bush on the other side of the creek last year in august lower rush creek
@@TroutWest Lots of logs and branches in the Owen's river...Also got fined $525 for using a barbed hook 10 feet into the no barbed zone! Now I bring a a whole kit of diamond files with me.
Thanks for this vid. I don't fish spoons all that much. I like the Thomas a lot but they tend to run deep (good) but also tend to run deep (bad). I often fish a maribou jig in 1/8 oz but if (when) I catch the bottom, I can switch to a 1/16 or even a 1/32. I lose those too but maybe less, so it does seem to help (a little anyway). I've switched out the hooks on all my Thomas to smaller, singles but haven't tried 'em yet.
You could try 6lb line. Single barbless hook. Trout don't know the difference between budget $2 lure vrs $5. Sportman warehouse sells cheap spinners. I remove the treble hook put a single barbless in its place. The heavier line will help recover snagged lures.
Generally in this stretch, yes they are pretty small. Road side spot with a lot of pressure, probably one of the busier roadside spots along 395. There are other factors, but that's a lot of typing. If you can catch a fresh plant, you might see fish to 1lb-1.5lb

too many to count...
@@sfunderground1548 haha, so true
Great spot to fish. Ouch on the spoons lost. That’s why I prefer single hooks
Feel the pain brother! Lost a lot at the tree!! I just let the line loose and tug at different angles.. 7 time out of 10 they come back lol
you should be bait fishing ith a sliding bobber to stay away from the trees and bushes under water from getting snagged?
@@tm8747 how would that help if the bait is going through the same water depth as the lures?
the browns there want meat........crawlers ,crickets ,ant eggs........
man, ant eggs. haven't heard that in about 20 years. 🤣
Kick out LADWP and cancel their leases and stop sending our water to LA

just think....
if everyone that fished that spot lost 10 lures.
what does the bottom look like?
upside down Christmas tree is my guess.
I have no doubt there are $1000s of lures stuck in that area.

There are some surprisingly big bass in the Owens!
I was up there about a week ago, same situation losing 6 flies! Definetely not $40 worth though... ouch
I was thinking that would be an excellent spot to fly fish! Did you use any streamers?

I agree with both points. I fish 4 when I'm in the Owens and I like to use the trebles. But i switch them out if it's grassy or lots of brush.
Sierra slammer swimbaits would work great there too
No doubt! I have a box full of em' 🤙 You'll see those on an upcoming video
That sunfish though, that's something to talk about 😯 never knew those were in there
I had heard about them being in there a long time ago but I never caught them... Pretty cool. Could be another option to Target

Great stuff man ,new subscriber here. What weight/ size was the spoon you were using?thanks ,tight lines .
1/6 oz!!
Shoulda fished above the bridge, or more down the river at the 90* turn bank. I always bag my limit there.
We did! This is just what we share with ya'll here on YT 🤟
And to answer your question, I lost 2 Panther Martins and a Rooster Tail on Saturday lol.

Sacramento Perch? Likely came from above in Crowley down the aqueduct and Pleasant Valley Res..
I thought that too..but I looked up some pics. The perch are striped.

Rapalas are notorious for getting snagged! Incredible lures though
I've definitely gotten punked by submerged bushes more times than I care to admit haha
The underwater bushes ALWAYs win

setting the hook like its bass? I like to use trout lures by casting down stream and swim them back and then let them drift back like a wounded fish.
Bring a magnet with you to try magnet fishing

Oh those snags...been there myself.
It's crazy how once you start with the snags, they seem to take your entire tackle box before you're done!
Honestly one of the main reasons I started using smaller floating jerk baits when I'm on the Owens
Yeah the only problem with anything floating in this spot is the fish are laying on the bottom. You got to go to them.
I would use a spinner with one barbless hook.
What's your favorite spinner with that hook set up
