And funny enough, as the broadcaster for the Islanders pointed out, it was the Atlanta Flames who were the Isle's first opponent at Nassau Coliseum. Now, 49 years and 13 days later, it's the Calgary Flames who are the Isle's first opponent at UBS Arena.
I edit my comment in the sense- you are correct the Barclays center the temporary arena in Brooklyn was awful for hockey. It was more a basketball arena for the Nets
They're strug-ga-ling right now but now that they're back home they might start to turn their slow start around. We'll see. But they do have some catching up to do of course.
I don't see win before December 7 against Senators....this team is bad ....Martin Cizikas Green Klucherbuck Baily Chara ..I love them but they are to old if you put them on waiwer nobody will pick them
This is on long island. Where they belong. Barclay's center wasn't built for hockey. This is the first legit new arena they have had since nassau colloseum was built back in the 1972. They were back and forth between nassau and Barclay's center for a couple of years before leaving Barclay's for good last year.
This should be the last for a while. The Islanders have had to lease around for the last couple of years because of the Decline in standard of Nassau Coliseum. Thankfully, this building was built specifically for the Islanders so they should be good here for a little while
This is the first new arena built for the Islanders since Nassau Coliseum back in 1972. Barclay's Center was always going to be a stop-gap measure, as it had some of the worst sightlines for a hockey game. Not to mention, it was in Brooklyn, which was Rangers' territory.

A shared history
One more thing to add, when the league shut down in March 2020, the Flames were supposed to play the Islanders!
They finally have a new home arena at long last. :-)
Now only if Coyotes can.
I'm glad such a storied franchise like the Islanders finally resolved their arena issue
Congratulations to NYI
@Flames fan Thanks
My mom works at there and she just gave me some Merchandise! Also received some Merchandise from school! Hope I get to go there!
Finally the isles playing the game at home
And home where they belong, on Long Island.
nice to see them get a fresh building! but why oh why cant they still get the camera adjustment right for broadcasting????
So how much more for tickets and parking in this new arena?
Remember their older arena where half the fans couldn't see the ice
Actually the old arena Nassau Coliseum was great for hockey. It just was outdated and to small for modern NHL standards.

Does anybody know what the “Lab” stands for as in the “Islanders Lab Store”?
I felt that the crowd wasnt as loud as it used to be, but maybe it was just in the highlights this one time
Islanders might be done before my thanksgiving turkey.

Beautiful arena crap team
That's a hat-pick
And they stunk out the place 2 nights in a row. What a joke.
How many new arenas they gonna get

Losing to the flames is really bad
Why? They're a first place team with 11 wins and 27 points. These guys suck.
Seems fitting they lost the first faceoff with how their season is going. 🤣
Oh, and the first NY team to win in that arena was the Rangers. 🤣🤣🤣
You beat a ahl team
first faceoff loss
And got spanked
Lol Already losing 2-0
2-1 at the beginning of the 2nd
