You are an excellent teacher. Thank you for this video. I am a female, 80 yrs of age. And I am going to follow your video to hook up my Huntet remote. Tks so much.
Thanks for a great explanation, Terry. I changed out an old fan and installed a new fan and Universal remote. I have a two switch control on the wall. It didn't work, so after rechecking everything, I found your video. I eliminated the wall light switch and also found I needed to use the red power wire feed at the receiver instead of the black wire. Works perfectly now.
Not that it matters but Id like to mention to folks that they also make remote control kits that have the fan speed functions built into the remote, so you don't need the pull cord on the fan to change the fan speeds. Just trying to make this option known for people that may want this! Very helpful vid Terry!
justin evans Oh yes, it matters...that is exactly what I need...a remote switch to operate the speeds of the fan... Right now it is stuck on "blast-off"
Lisa Wyndham heheh, sorry for your trouble on your fan speed. Is there not a chain/switch built onto the fan where you can adjust the speed? If the switch on the fan doesn't change the speed the switch in the fan is bad or it is wired wrong.
Thanks for letting everyone know that Justin. Why in the world would anyone buy one that doesnt let you control the fan speed ??? Kind of defeat the purpose of buying a remote if have to get up and pull the chain each time to change the speed..
Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.
I was having some problems installing my new light/fan combo with getting all the wires and wireless receiver into the canopy. I would have never thought to tuck the wireless receiver into the fan mount like that, thanks for the video.
First I would like to thank you for your great videos! Now for my question.....With a ceiling fan/light fixture that is controlled with a remote, can the light switch at the door be used to turn on the light when you enter the room and then use the remote to turn off the light? I do have two switches that used to control the old fan motor and the light separately.
Thanks for the nice comment! Appreciated. Nothing will work until you power on that switch feeding the receiver. Then the remote will control everything so I guess the short answer is no.
Really, great video! It was just the information and illustration I was seeking when installing my new ceiling fan with remote and when confronted with red, black, and white wires at ceiling and separate wall switches to control light and fan separately. It was a great help.
Excellent video! I have a 3rd switch in our master bedroom that just controls the light...do I just cap that switch off also? Thank you for sharing! Chester
The fan remote that I installed in my previous house, had light dimming and adjustable fan speed. I wouldn't bother with a remote that didn't have both of those functions. Great video, very detailed.
Do they have a wireless kit that replaces the pull chains? I’ve seen the wireless kits that have fan speed control, but they all connect to main fan power and require the pull chain to be set to high speed. Was wondering if the pull chains could be bypassed entirely.
Thank you for such excellent video. Thanks to you, I was able to instal my ceiling fan w/remote. QUESTION: The existing on/off switch from the wall no longer controls the fan/light. Is it possible to make both (remote/wall) work? I mean, if I was to misplace the remote, how do I make it work without it?
Thanks Dan! I hope you gave it a 'like', and that you have subscribed to my channel. I have lots of content there, and click the bell so that you will know when I release a new video.
I just installed the hunter 99770 with a FLUSH mounted fan like at 0:26 NO PROBLEM. No hums and runs smoothly. I had to take more apart (lighting assembly, blades, then that big shroud) but it still only took an hour. Before, I had 2 switches, one for the light, one for fan. I left the light switch at the door and hooked this up just to the fan. Now it runs all 3 speeds off the remote at the bed yay!
Great Video and very helpful. I had installed one of these few years ago and now the fan shuts off automatically after some time; Initially i thought it was a bad capacitor so I changed the capacitor. But I still have the same issue, I wonder if the remote control switch is malfunctioning. Is there a way to find that out. Thanks for the help
Thanks alot for all your tutorials, Terry. You've helped me alot, beings though I am a novice do it yourselfer. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
Nice but you skipped the main part putting that remote module in the bracket!! Even though I figured out that you have to dent that bracket a little then it slides on top
Hi, thank you for the video. I just installed a similar fan remote. Is it possible for the switch to still operate the light as well as the remote? Can it be set up as some sort of 3 way?
Probably possible to set it up as an either / or situation if you have the 3-wire feed to the outlet. Either the switch, or the remote to turn on the light, but wouldn't have 3-way type functionality where if you turned it on with the switch, couldn't turn off with the remote.
Hi. We're having a house built. We opted to not have 3 wall switches and so we'll only have 2. We think that was a mistake now considering that we'll want to be able to have something controlling the fan rather than pulling the chain. Will your tutorial work for us although we only have to wall switches?
Hello, Mr. Peterman. As a layman, I need to know what does it mean when you refer to the wires as in and out, and then while you were connecting the wires you mentioned a couple of times the word 3 wire cable when you only had two wires being clamped in the safety nut. Your response will be greatly appreciated.
3-wire cable (+ ground=4) refers to a set of wires in a cable jacket commonly referred to as Romex, or Loomex. So a 3-wire cable will have a black, red, and white wire along with a bare ground wire. Does that answer your question?
hi .. gr8 video ... a question .. I have a Aldi DC remote control ceiling fan , terrific & quiet .. but !! , even on speed 1 it spins a bit too fast ... - any clues how to slow the speed down .. ??
There would be a way, but not a sanctioned way by the manufacturer I'm guessing. You could put a current limiter in line with the motor circuit, but probably not an easy task.
Hello Mr. Terry. I have high ceilings and have a ceiling fan that only has 1 switch on the wall to turn it on. I have to put really long pull chains. Can I still install a control even thought I don't have a light switch and a fan switch?
With this remote, it is only an on-off control for the fan and the light, so you need to have the pull-chain for the light left on, and the pull-chain for the fan in whatever speed you would like it to run at, and the reverse switch in the position for how you want it to move air as well. Thanks for watching Victor!
Hi, i got 4 ceiling fans that came with remote control modules. I asked my electrician to install them bypassing the remote control module because i wanted to control them just by the wall switch. Guess what? All of them burned! I need help on how to correctly wiring them. The electrician says that the capacitor is on the remote control module, and when it was removed, then the fan didnt had capacitor and got burned. Please help!!! I already got new motors as replacement, but still want to avoid the remote control modules.
Thanks Dude! Get a camera stand that will reach as a tip. Thanks for your hard work and time! I think I blew the remote putting wires in the wrong place. Lol. 2nd time around
Our electrician did not wire the fan on-off to a wall switch, just the fan light. We have to use the pull cord, which is why I want to add a remote switch. Is there any harm in keeping the fan light on-off wall switch active?
I would like to know if I can use a remote fan switch just to control a light from the ceiling, The light is not controlled by any other switch on the wall. It just has power to the light in the ceiling. There was a fan in there before with remote but no longer a fan in the room.
Just need to install a single light no fan, no existing wall switch. Existing light has just a pull chain and black and white wire. I bought a wireless remote - it has blue black red and white wire, plus signal wire.....help
I really wish there was another way. I'm in the process of doing an install and I think I'm going to try and bypass the light control. I really want to be able to control everything from the wall and at the same time have the ability to use the remote.
help. i just installed remote control for cieling fan & light however the remote will not turn light off but fan does work. Can anyone help with this please and thankyou
I have a red wire, along with the black-white-and the ground. In hanging a ceiling fan I put the ground together, followed by the black and blue to the black from the ceiling and white to white. What do I do with the red wire?
Mr Terry Good morning I,ve bought a windward IV 52in, but the remote control doesn't work, when I TRY TO PUT THE LIGHT OFF. I guess I've commited a mistake managing the remote control. Could you help me telling what could be done? Thank you very much.
Yes, we have two remotes in our bedroom. We had to purchase another remote kit that included the remote and wiring harness. We just had to set the remote switches to match the settings of the fan.
I have 2 Hunter ceiling fans WITH Hunter remotes (3 speeds + off and dimmer). The fans are about 5 years old but have not been working for the last year. One of them completely quit and the other the light turns on with the wall switch & I hear a click when I turn it on. I paid for a new lower housing to be sent from Hunter because they felt that this would surely fix the problem and it had simple instructions on how to plug in the new housing. IT DIDNT WORK. Still nothing on the totally broke fan/light. The lower unit I was sent appears to mainly a light kit unit (has three lights and the pull strings inside it for the fan and the light. It has a simple single plug to connect to the main body of the fan (which I guess has the fan motor). Nothing happened when I plugged it in. The other fan, the light works but not the fan so I'm not messing with it for now. I am wondering if the remote can go bad and not allow the fan to work? The remote also does not work with the one light that does work, I use the wall switch and the fan will click when I throw the switch. ANY ideas are appreciated as the fans were not that old when quit working. Does it sound like a motor problem or wiring problem. I have dual wall switches, one for the light and one for the motor. Thanks.
Or if you couldn't find the remote 😂 Either separate the light so it only controlled by the switch and the fan just works using remote but my remote receiver off button don't work so I had to use the wall switch to kill the fan 🤣

This is a generic remote and can be used with any brand of ceiling fan that is just a standard fan / light.
Very informative and professional.
