How do you view yourself? Is having a consistent idea of your self important?
Today's episode answers both these questions by building upon the idea of the self-concept discussed in last weeks episode.
Self-construal, the manner in which you view yourself, typically falls into one of three categories: individualistic, collectivist, and relational. I discuss all three of these types of self-construal, as well as how they can affect the way in which a person views consistency.
Lastly, I discuss the philosophical ideas of free will and determinism, and how they may apply to these ideas of self.
How do you view yourself? Do you think consistency is important? Let me know what you think in the comments!
Also, please share the video with a friend who sprung to your mind when watching the video. It really helps me, and they'll sincerely appreciate you thinking of them!

I would like to think that I'm also a relational but I'll be more aware of the foot in the door and the low ball thanks to you. Unlike your other commentator I like both Sam and Anthony, and I particularly like Anthony De Mello. He's one of my all-time favourite authors. It's intriguing the differences between East and West! Hopefully with our 'smaller world' these differences will fade.

I'm delighted you found the video useful Bernadette! De Mello is a great author... So insightful and humourous.
It sounds like you would like the world's populations to become more similar... Is that correct?

Interesting! I think it's an important consideration. I love the extensive diversity we see in today's world, but I'd certainly like to see the levels of kindness and compassion increase across the board - making us all more similar in a way... Quite the conundrum! I wonder if there is a way of maintaining diversity, and yet still making improvements to our worldwide humanity. Any suggestions?!
