Great footage. It's funny how people will argu about what type of whistle it is, kinda reminds me of 5 old geezers in a coffee shop arguing about what size bolt was used on the left engine mount of a 54 ford that was rebuilt 5 times before dying an ungodly death at a lake bottom.
I believe that is a Lake Superior and Ishpoming 6 chime. They are literally just Nathan 6 chime copies. All they are is a Nathan with “LP&I” stamped on them
It's the original 6 chime that came with the Heisler when it came from the MRL back in 1967....video from the 50's has audio of this very whistle. Now, what IS it? I have no clue.
@NathanH5 thanks fred, i got some nathan 6er's recorded on my phone as my ringtone's. the best one i have was the grand trunk 6 chime step top used on Ohio Central 6325 during her first years of excursion service on the Ohio Central.
@Engineer5344 You are 100% right!! That's why so many roads copied the Nathan-6 to make their own, such as the SP. The Nathan 6-chime is definitely the king of all locomotive whistles!!
@InsensitiveCrayon They used this same whistle on the big-6 Shay the year I was there for the whistle blow. It is a marked Nathan long-bell 6-chime. Those two on the 765 and 1225 have shrouds which cause them to whippoorwill and blow totally different sounds. I have two of these big Nathans and can vouch for their sound.
Which sold for over $3000. Crazy number! Sounds awesome though. It's technically a Nathan 6 chime. Seller said on the eBay page that it was made by Nathan.
It's a Nathan 6 Chime. 765's whistle should sound exactly like this. The reason it doesn't is because the Nickel Plate put a shield around the whistle to deflect steam away from the engine so the crew could see better.
+Texas Hobby Man - Aquariums, Engines & More! Its very similar to 765s whistle, just tuned differently, lacks the steam shield which further affects its tuning, and is on a bit less pressure (200 PSI vs 245 PSI).
@guitboxchicken deregulation actualy saved the railroads. The ICC, once created to prevent unfair pricing by railroad tycoons, actualy helped to kill thousands of railroads in the United States.
I hate when they pour on the smoke for run-bys... It gives a false impression, making steam locomotives appear to pollute more than they actually do. A competent fireman would be embarrassed by this. Disgusting! Cool engine though...

Gotta Love starting it off with an SP 6 Echoing Across the valley
That’s not the SP 6
Any way you put it the whistle is a Nathan-6-chime.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think this the origin for the Boston & Albany 4-6-2 Pacific in Trainz
Love a southern 6 chime so is the PRR 3 chime another great whistle.
Wtf that’s a Southern _Pacific_ 6 chime
@@Henriqueleal0609 Nope it's a LS&I 6 Chime whistle
6 chimes are cool and loud
0:00 - Frisco #1630's 6-Chime Whistle as heard in ploopy157's Ro-Scale Central Railroad on Roblox.
Well it's not 1630's 6 chime she never sounded like that in real life she had a 3 chime and a low pitched longbell 6 chime
Definitely!
that 6 chimer isnt a southern pacific...i believe it came from a washington d.c. area locomotive...
That sounds more like the 6-chime off the Greenfield Village Wizer Railroad Edison #1 to me.
That is a SP 6 chime for sure.
Nah, SP6 Chime has a lower pitch
@@Henriqueleal0609 Well some are not cause 4449 had a High Pitched SP 6 chime
Ok, its officially an LS&I 6 Chime… the exact one is on eBay.
Which sold for over $3000. Crazy number! Sounds awesome though. It's technically a Nathan 6 chime. Seller said on the eBay page that it was made by Nathan.
+Texas Hobby Man - Aquariums, Engines & More! That's not a Nathan 6 chime, NKP 765 has one

+Ryan Seals right fine then whatever
Sorry to sound harsh
T r a i n b o i 1
i will still choose the Crosby 3 chime
Then what is it? This sounds exactly like an SP 6 chime.
+Steam2k LS&I 6-chime
Is Rich Carter in the Heisler?
That's Artie.
What whistle is that?
LS&I 6 chime
SP 6 chime
I like the Heisler because it's the only one of its kind at cass.
I bet it could fit on 1309
I like the Heisler
Nathan 6 chime
That is NOT an SP 6 chime...
Nope it isn't
sounds like sp 2472.

I agree fully! Let's show these foamers what REAL railroading was like.
lol @2:50..............she popped!
2:50
The safety valves blew off. It does that to relieve pressure in the boiler
