I’m in west Tennessee & the ones moving here immediately start bitching about 1. Nothing being here 2. Locals & local ways of life 3. The lack of the same services they were receiving where they moved from that cost so much and caused taxes to be so high. If you’re going to move somewhere don’t expect the area you move into to change to suit your wants!

Native East Tennessean here. They retire, and come here after having sold their house. Spend half the money buying a house that is better than what they had the first time, and bank the other half of the money for their retirement.//Or no 2, they see the low land prices and low cost of living and move here with their family. They work in a city nearby, usually white collar or executive level job (one or both parents). This is why the real estate prices are through the roof. Mark my words, it will get so expensive that natives won’t be able to afford to live here anymore.

Our property taxes got doubled, because of all the metal home communities ($378k per unit) springing up. We also have a huge RV park coming in that Sevier county refused to zone. But we agreed somehow to it.
Wheel tax is 1 vote away from returning. Our local roads are pothole central from all the building trucks zooming around.

North Georgia mountains are full too. I spoke with a guy who recently moved here. He was all excited about starting an HOA in his neighborhood. Crap like that is why the locals strongly dislike the move-ins.
I live in Coweta Co. Georgia where The Walking Dead was filmed. Lots of other film and tv projects are filmed here too. My property taxes have more than doubled since we bought our house in 2008. And the county is proposing a 39% property tax increase for 2025.
Atl and East TN are very close to each other also.

Yes I agree 100%. My hometown of Bowling Green, Ky is absolutely full of immigrants now. It takes an hour to drive across town. What makes me so angry is they’re getting everything free while we work full time and get nothing .
The states with the most domestic outbound migrants have the highest immigrant populations. Just look into New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and California for examples.

People from OKC and Dallas move here, and they bring their crap with them.
Example: I was butchering a hog in the front, I have a piss elm tree there with a big limb, and I hang a hog there to butcher and bleed out.
I had this moron to call the sheriffs dept. on me, saying I was abusing animals!!!!
Cops did come, soon as they seen it was me, and what I was doing, they told the old boy that is normal, nothing to see here. Those people moved not long after. I dress deer in the same tree, wringing chickens neck and plucking the same spot. I don't care if they like it or not.
Crime has went up. Just 10 yrs ago, I never locked my house, and kept my main door open, with just the screen door. Not anymore.
MOre traffic on the roads, hateful people flipping me off because I drive slower than they do.
Oh, I forgot about target shooting, I had some to call on me for shooting. I have a berm in back, usually I shoot a .22 back there, since I use it most, and cops said it's legal, people didn't like that.
Dogs is another BIG issue.
People dumping dogs, they get starved, then want to kill my fowl, then I"ve had to put down several because of that crap. People don't like that.
And people letting dogs loose to run wild in here. I had to shoot one last year, and this gal flipped out.

Something similar is happening to a close friend of mine in the Denver area. He owns 15 acres and is now surrounded by subdivisions and people sometimes let their dogs run into his field. He says he will have no problem shooting them.

I inherited property in that state and contacted a realtor about listing it, the realtor said it would be an "instant" sell . They told me there is a quiet influx of people fleeing western states into the state and paying cash well over asking price. I decided to hold on to it, its in a forested area with access to a creek

Macon county nc they voting to allow building in flood plane areas. The developers pushing hard and looks like county goinf to do it. They keep delaying it, well they not saying NO. So the ole delay tactic.
The farmers are outraged because the floods being good nutrient rich sediments into fields. It would bring fill dirt and who knows what . Our farmers are in trouble. Fields being turned into subdivisions and rv parks.

I’ve lived in the same place for 46 years and the nearest town had maybe 5K people back then and now I’ve got a strip mall on one side and another strip mall on the other side of my one neighbor. They’re building a n apartment complex behind me only a couple hundred feet behind me. It was a rural area only 20 years ago. When I retire I’m out of here. Luckily South Carolina is still a red state for the time being.

I couldn't agree more. I'm born/bred in Morristown TN and the amount of growth we've seen in just the last 5 years is unbelievable. Way more crime, drugs and snarky residents that are from Cali, NY and Ohio mainly. Some of the rudest people I've ever met. They move here then complain it's not like the hellscape of a state they're from and want to change it.

I took my mom for a drive last Monday, and we're from Maryville so I drove up through the back roads and mountains, down into Gatlinburg, the Pigeon Forge, then decided to check out that Buc-ee's down by the interstate. Holy. Crap. 1 pm on a Monday, and Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and even Sevierville, all the way down to Buc-ee's and I-40, was completely full and people were out and about walking, traffic was already going into nightmare territory by 2:30 pm. I was in Buc-ee's less than 20 mins; just long enough to get pulled pork sandwiches to take home- and then I had to get back out. I desperately needed to go to the lady's room before my drive back (and I heard Buc-ee's had very clean bathrooms) but had to wait and find another place down the road, because there was a huge line even for the bathroom, and I couldn't wait. Unless you have a whole day to take to visit Seviere county and deal with the traffic, don't even attempt it.
Amen, Greene County Native here, you can’t farm without getting ran over by people with Californians and those from Illinois. Our property taxes have went through the roof. They’re rude and pretentious. Even the so called “ conservatives” just complain about how we do things here.

Native Tennessean here. All I can figure is that people from other states are able to sell their more expensive property - move here & pay cash - then have money left over for themselves. If I watch a clip from the local evening news, you almost never see a local interviewed about anything. It's X who moved here last year or Y who moved here 2 years ago, and these people are being interviewed about local issues which predate their arrival to this state. But b/c they're new and have money, then their opinion seems to be the holy grail of answers. I'm also thinking that many of these people don't know about our sales taxes, the precarious state of rural health care in some counties, or the fact that the locals aren't quite as stupid as many people from out of state assume us to be.
And this is why the South always resents Yankees.
I apologize for all the rude, entitled newcomers who are changing your way of life. My family moved to a very rural area of East Tennessee two years ago. I love my new home, my new neighbors, and my new lifestyle. We have the same fears about people moving in and changing the politics. I hope the lack of shopping, entertainment and amenities chase these people away and the ones who stay are the people who embrace and assimilate into the existing lifestyle. We are multi-generational (4 generations) who came here to escape the wokeness in CA not to recreate it. We love being here and will fight to keep the status quo as long as we can. I'm in NE Tennessee and the spiders and snakes are enormous and prolific. Something murders our chickens regularly, we think its the werewolf. The mud is impossible. The paved roads will give you vertigo, curvy, narrow switchbacks going up and down the hills. The nearest costco is 3 hours away. If your from California I would suggest Arizona or Nevada.

Did you see the extreme gun control measures that the Memphis City Council passed unanimously 10-0? It’ll likely be overturned by the courts, but that’s what all of these people are doing to states like Tennessee, Kentucky, and Texas. It’s very frustrating!

I moved up to Brentwood from Houston 14 years ago. I wanted property but my wife wanted a neighborhood. Now, we’re going to sell and move onto 45 acres east of Nashville and our sons are grown, but they’re coming with us. I don’t like crowded cities and was raised around horses, cows, etc. I’ve been trying to get back to that my entire adult life. We love Tennessee, its people, and its beauty. I know we’re not from here, but I think we’re a good addition to the state. :)
The most hilarious thing is west coasters and northern immediately complaining about the lack of obscure services that aren’t in Tn. Especially west Tn, is a largely rural place.

I just moved to Kentucky from Washington state. I don't like the idea of HOA's either but sometimes I think it might be worth it not to have someone living next door with 6 or 7 junk cars in the front yard and an old stove and fridge and worn out Lazy Boy on the front porch surrounded by trash and weeds 3 feet tall and music blasting all night. I've been there and done that. Not fun.
@@percyhawkins716 I live in a rural area & there isn't junk on front lawns. Mostly cattle, & hay pastures. Its dead quiet most of the time, Birds usually make most of the noise. The only significant noise I hear from neighbors is during hunting season, since a lot of them hunt.

Roger that, I'm in the same situation now myself but I was just saying I can understand people wanting to be in an HOA to get away from the dregs when they live in towns or cities. I've lived all over the country and have had occasion to experience horrible neighbors moving in next door with no recourse but to move and take a loss on my investment because of the mess next door. There are times I would have gladly traded for a place in an HOA after that. But living out in the country is preferable, that's for sure.
My son just moved from Boone, NC to Tennessee because he couldn’t find a place to live that wasn’t ridiculously expensive and it was too liberal for him. He works in Boone but loves where he lives in Tennessee. It’s very rural and quiet and that’s what he loves.
I live in a rural quiet area myself. I don't like neibourhoods with loud people living on top of me. I don't like big cities or crowds either. I just want to be left alone away from that annoying crap.

Hi MD, My wife and son and myself moved here 3 years ago. We fled the Communist state of Michigan to come to Tennessee. We firmly believe that it may come at some point to states seceding from the Union and we want to be on the side of right. I promise you we did not come to change anything we moved down to Niota on 11 acres and we are going just as quick as we can to become self-sufficient in animal husbandry and a decent size garden. Trying to get into a position to survive SHTF. We love East Tennessee and we want to merge into the culture here not change it.

Families are losing their farms to Inheritance tax. We will lose .5 million acres in 3 years. Governor Bill Lee proposed a Farmlannd Preservation Fund. If we make it a bill, farmers wiil receive pay to work their farms for 15 years. Write Congress to pass it, please.🙏

I live in north Alabama and it’s the same here. Every small piece of land is being bought up and homes built. Not sure how long I’ll be able to afford to pay the ever increasing property taxes here. “Plandemic”- yes, it seems to be the culprit.
They will price us out of our homes. I live south of Atlanta and the exact same thing is happening here. My county is proposing a property tax increase of 39% for next year. If that happens my property tax will be over $10k a year. It was under $4k when we bought the house in 2008.

I'm a transplant from Virginia. My husband was born and raised here. Tennessee is home. We bought a home in 2020 in Middle Tennessee, about an hour from Nashville. We thought it would be quiet and peaceful. There are houses going up everywhere. Including directly across the road from us. I'd rather have deer, rabbits, and squirrels for neighbors.

Our granddaughter and family moved to Middle Tenn from NC because of a job transfer 2 yrs ago. They are moving back to western NC. Now…They are sick of the horrible weather, constant rain and all the tornados in Tenn. Plus her husband was bitten by Ticks and now has Lyme Disease. He also got Rocky Mountain spotted Fever from ticks by cutting down a tree. They can’t leave fast enough!
WNC has ticks now. Didn’t used to (at least not much), it’s not getting cold enough during winter in last several years to keep those buggers away. Tell them to get Guinea’s, they’ll eat their weight in ticks!
I moved here to East Tn back in 2010. Wanted to get away from the Florida heat and missed the seasons I enjoyed growing up in New England but not being able to afford the oil prices in the winter there. We wanted a rural area where we could enjoy the country life. We started seeing change even before Covid. But it really stepped up during and after. Where we used to enjoy being surrounded by beautiful farms for miles around, all of a sudden they were being sold off, and like you said, subdivisions were erected where they put one house on top of the other. Now almost all the farms are gone and the traffic here in this area is so nuts, I feel like we are living right in the middle of Knoxville! I hate it! I can imagine how the native Tennessee folks feel! I moved here because I loved the way TN was, now it’s changed so drastically. It frustrating. We can’t get those farms back, they are gone forever. It’s so sad.

Roads are over loaded!! we was 7th in the country of most moved to city in america. Still in the top 10. We never asked them to move here. I visited Johnson City with some friends last year… traffic was pretty crazy. I always wanted to move out to eastern Tennessee from Virginia to get away from the lunatics in northern va and Hampton that want to vote our rights away. But with the mass migration of people to Tennessee I’ve had to rethink it. Doesn’t make sense anymore. I feel bad for what’s been happening to y’all. Hopefully it’s likeminded people moving there. Everyone knows things are coming to a head.
I had to flee a quiet area on the river after it was infested and turned into a subdivision. People were stealing everything I had...even my fruit on my trees, ATV, boats, pets, truck, fish nets and vegetables too. I lost everything I owned and left with a few boxes of clothes and books.

When we bought our property in NE Tennessee we did so with the forethought of being good stewards of the land. I am originally from Oregon and my husband from New Mexico. We were married and lived in Oregon until we couldn't handle all the changes that Californians were doing to Oregon. Other Califorians voted in their own kind and Oregon slowly started to change. We picked Tennessee as it was as close to the "old" Oregon as we could find. We have done just as we planned here in Morgan County. We have a lovely homestead, off grid, over 80 animals and are continuious adding more as we mostly do "rescue" or abandoned animals. We have gardens, growing our own hay, have multiple polinator plots to help the local bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. I have up water stations for any animal that may need it and we do feeding stations in the winter for any birds that might be having a hard time finding food due to the weather. We volunteer, donate equipment to our local boys & girls club, help fill the blessing boxes etc. We are very blessed to be in Tennessee, on our own land, doing the best we can to fit in and make friends. I think we fit in because we came from a small town and enjoy living in a small town. My husband works from home as does my youngest daughter, I run the farm and watch grand children

I lived with my grandparents most of my childhood and learned the old ways. I continue on the tradition of teaching my grandchildren (who are my neighbors). You did your best and some times our kids stray; they know God and He is waiting for them to get back on the path. We each have lessons to learn; as parents all we can do is prepare them the best we can. It's never too late for them. Pray for them any time it touches your heart to do so. Eventhough my kids all live right here I am always praying over them and their children. Our world is a tough one but I know God is right there walking this path with me. That’s the problem. I felt an obligation to stay and fix my former state for a while. OK, I might as well come out and say it. I came from Massachusetts. If you are a true right-leaning voter, Massachusetts is h3ll on earth. I considered moving to New Hampshire, and turning it back to the “Live free or die” state it used to be. But my husband felt it was too expensive. So we moved to what we thought was an under the radar red state. I’m not saying where because we are finding out it’s also been discovered by escapees. But I can tell you we deliberately avoided Florida, Texas, and Tennessee because we knew people were flocking there.
Also, we came from a semi rural part of Western Massachusetts that had more right-leaning people than one might expect for Massachusetts. We now live in a more urban part of our mostly rural red state because that’s where the jobs are and the large town we live in is probably more politically aligned with our small New England town, meaning it’s really “purple” and we didn’t move expecting to find utopia. We compromise somewhat and chose to live near the state capital (the other major city looks like it might have a nicer climate) for a reason

I'm born and raised in Johnson City, you and I are the same age.We're experiencing the same thing, and the out of state transplants keep wanting to change everything in town to look like where they moved from, and downtown Johnson City used to have some homeless people walking around, but now it looks like Night of the Living Dead with all the stoners walking around. Tennessee has been a hot spot for a very long time. I live on a small farm in Kentucky. Most people could not live the way we do.

Let me see if I can answer your question as to why people are moving to East Tennessee.
First of all, my wife & I moved to East Tennessee in April this year from Rochester NY. We came BECAUSE of your culture, NOT to change it. We are Christian conservatives and 2nd amendment advocates who fled the communist state of NY, almost as refugees. I don't even recognize that area I once grew up in & lived most of my life. Here's a list of why we chose East Tennessee:
• no state income tax
• very low property tax
• sales tax is only 1.5% higher than NYS
• gas is typically 50-60 cents per gallon cheaper here than NYS
• general cost of living (insurance [car & health], housing, utilities, groceries, alcohol, paper products, etc) is lower in TN
• TN is a constitutional carry state (no draconian anti-gun laws), honoring the 2nd amendment
• the respectful Christian culture that exists here in TN
• the beautiful weather. Even a forecast with a 40-60% chance of rain often ends up mostly a lovely day. Yes, it can get hot in the summer, but it sure beats shoveling snow!
• has beautiful change of seasons, especially Fall, and snowfall is on average only 7" for the entire winter season. Rochester NY will often get 7" in one lake effect storm.
• Magnificent Mountain views that just bring a sense of awe & wonder to your soul, & it never gets old
• Dollywood. I go there regularly to walk the beautifully decorated park for exercise & for entertainment/amusement, and a gold season pass cost me less than a gym membership
• nice people. Very friendly. And even if they're pissed at you, they usually don't swear. They'll simply say, "Well bless your heart".
I love Tennessee and feel blessed to call it my new home. I'm sorry the influx of people is causing your property taxes to go up. (Still way lower than NYS) On the bright side, your property values are appreciating, so your financial assets are growing, so if you ever do sell your property, you'll make a good profit. And I hope nobody moving here will ever try to change this culture.

Not everyone wants to move. It is really hard, especially with kids. But sometimes the Lord leads you to take a leap of faith and your conscience doesn’t allow for your hard earned tax money to be spent in such evil ways. Voting red, being a part of the community, trying to make a difference and the government still is making evil decisions. The big cities run the whole state in many of these states and that doesn’t mean all the people in that state are blue. The rural people get screwed. We just want peace like everyone else.

Hancock county resident here. I know exactly what you are talking about with land prices. There have been some properties that are listed at almost 10k per acre. I must also say that the buyer does not control the price, the seller does. There is not one seller that will ever turn down the highest offer including you. You list your house for sale with a real estate agent who says I think it’s worth 150k, you get an offer for 300k are you going to say nope, I’ll take 150k because I want to keep the prices down? I think not, the sellers are responsible. Also for those who move from out of state, don’t try to change this way of life, embrace it, or stay away. Keep Tennessee the way it is, a patriotic freedom loving state with some of the best people you will ever meet.
Time is running out for the country. You’re going to have to deal with a lot of people that are not friendly and want to change areas they move too. Luckily they will get a drastically different experience once the Federal government becomes irrelevant through collapse! Government will be state and local.

Tennessee is georgeous! I'm partial to Kentucky or the Southern bits of my home state of Ohio, but I live overseas now. I imagine there are also a number of people that see what's coming and want to be surrounded by neighbors that are likely to have their back if marauders come through. Actually, the same is happening all over the country as people flee the taxes, crime and inflation of the cities. Here in the Northeast about 70 miles from NYC folks are buying property in these far-flung rural and suburban areas to what they think is out of harms way. However, much of the crime is commuting from the City to pursue their victims here. These NYC refugees are bringing not only inflation but excessive building and also changing zoning to eliminate small stock and even vegetable gardens. To their mind rural zoning should mimic the local Super Malls with their trimmed grass and herbaceous and floral borders. In addition, most of the transplants are anti-2A and are sure to change the laws where possible and are already forcing sporting goods stores to stop selling guns and ammo.
So in conclusion, TN is a great place to move by comparison, rather than in the belly of the liberal beast in northern cities. While to date the migration does not exceed the reverse migration of the 1940's, 1950"s and 1960's. that is from rural to cities, what we are witnessing today is but the tip of the iceberg.

To many people have been telling city folks to move to the country. I don't understand why all those highly intelligent city folks don't just fix the mess they created at home, instead they move to the southeast, say how wonderful it is, 30 minutes later they're trying to turn it into new York, new jersey, Utah, Connecticut, ect.

Not all are like that. Washington state is a great example. Most of Washington state is located east of the mountains. All Republicans. However west of the mountains is the most populated, mostly liberal so the west controls the entire state. There is nothing that can be done as we watch the beautiful state go to hell.
Traffic had got way bad here.. and tennessee has had a big population boom. And it seems like it is staring to look more like a big city and less like a farming and ranch city. Like it did 20 years ago.

M,D. Here in Florida too..in the middle of nowhere. We had peace and quiet. Now we have massive condos, storage units and arrogant assholes from New York buying up land and property. Our taxes went up and our homeowners insurance went up five fold . I am making a move 40 miles from where I live in the middle of the woods to have peace. Our kids can no longer afford rent. It is 2400 dollars for a 2 bedroom appt. It is insane.
In Florida, arrogant assholes from New England, Illinois, and Michigan too, not just New Yorkers. North Central Florida is full too.

I moved from FL to Elizabethton TN. We looked for two years to find this area. The reason we moved here was because we wanted our daughter to grow up in a safer area with less people around. For everyone one person here there are twenty in Saint Petersburg FL. We respect and love the area for the good people and natural beauty. We just try to blend in. I also hate the people who come here and expect you to cater to them. In my opinion this is the best state in America after living here two years. I have moved 36 times in my life, so I have experienced many places.

Bought my 20 acres in 87 for $800 per acre. Has Springs, creeks, timber, border Nat forest, no neighbor really. Can walk naked lol. Now the land is at least 15k per acre , but mine might bring 20K. I bought 10 acres to begin this. 1k down, 118.20 per month. 12 yr note. 11% interest. Paid it off early.
Same in Georgia. Were considering moving to Arkansas.

I'm in Oregon now but grew up in York, Maine where in the Seventies and Eighties tons of Massholes moved in and took over the town's politics.... especially on the coastline. They drove up land prices and property taxes to such a level that generational locals were forced to move.
We have a lot of people coming in from New York and california. The only thing that keeps them away from the woods here is they don't like bugs and they don't like to work.

You are not the only free state with this problem but folks will move to the state that is the freest more than others. But all free states have the migration problem.
I can tell you from first hand experience that East Tennessee is building new subdivisions at a fever pace and filling them with almost nothing but "new arrivals". Stay strapped and prepped.

Knox County says my house has almost tripled in value since we bought it 11 years ago. I guess it's better than everyone moving out of this area and our property being worthless...????? The worst part of it is my kids are becoming adults now and I'm not really sure how they are going to be able to afford to stay around here.

Something else I wanted to add about Kentucky. This is really a positive, when you turn 65 and you won’t turn acres of land or more you are exonerated from property taxes. That’s a big thing as you get older. So I just wanna put that out there and I am selling my property because I want to move.
It's the same here in Murphy, NC. I don't even know how they found this place. Fine if you acclimate but coming up here from FL and starting these HOAs and then trying to tell families who have lived here 200 hundred years that they can't have chickens and pulling permits to change a window, so then the code people from town are all up in our mountains. The traffic in town has gotten ridiculous our roads can't handle this influx. Now we have developers buying up land and building ugly little boxes. Thankfully, my home is way way out of town and my neighbors have been here for generations and own all the land and have told me they will never sell. They have plenty of children to pass it to and they say they won't sell. So far we are safe out here but the biggest reason is it's a cell signal dead zone and there are only two wifi choices. Starlink and Hughesnet. Starlink isn't allowing any more customers on our port in this area. And hughesnet well if you know them I don't need to explain. If you are reading this and you moved here and you came here for a peaceful conservative life great! We love you. That's why I moved here 20 years ago. If your reading this and you are planning on moving here please for the love of God Himself remember why your leaving where your leaving and don't bring it here. The locals are really getting irritated. That may not be a big deal where you come from but I assure you you do not want to live next to an irritated country boy or chick. It takes a lot to get us there.
I came from south Florida because old Florida was destroyed by people coming from everywhere else. Mostly New England and Canada. The property taxes sky rocketed there too for the same reason. Now it's happening here. I grew up down there and my hometown doesn't exist anymore. Like the Eagles say, "Call someplace paradise, you can kiss it goodbye."
I’m originally from Middle TN, moved just over line to KY cause housing was cheaper. A couple years ago I moved to Morgan County in E TN. My intention was to buy the house I moved to, but changed my mind due to the condition of the house. I end up moving to the KY side of Jellico, again because of the cost of housing. I do work from home so I can move wherever, but will probably stay where I’m at. I have family currently renting in Fentress County and they are having to move because the Californians that own their house are moving here. They are having a hard time finding somewhere to rent because of availability. Moving back to Middle TN is no longer an option because of the cost of housing there. People want to move to TN because of no state income taxes and at one point it was the cost of housing, but that’s a thing of the past.

I'm guilty. Moved from Florida from what used to be a very small and agricultural county, to eastern Tennessee. Entertainment wasn't something i sought in Florida, so that wasn't a drawback but was actually a plus. For employment I work in agriculture, but I'm a remote worker in tech. I am part of the swarm of locusts descending on Tennessee, but I vote like most people that live here and try to support local businesses and pay cash. I have a garden and raise chickens, but i used to that in FL too. I saw what happened to Florida when it got built up and just hope i don't live to see the same happen to Tennessee.

20yrs ago when I bought my home here in AC, also raised here it was so quiet and now OMG it's insanely loud with all of the riders. I wish they would respect the the fact their riding through residential areas and some people like to sleep at 2am😒Considering selling out, just to find a quieter spot.

We are getting inundated by families of the people I. Our 2 Federal prisons, people are coming from all over the US but this area offers nothing.

I live 25 miles north of Knoxville in East Tennessee. I’m with you. I don’t understand why they’re moving here either other than our beautiful Norris lake and of course all of the ATV trails that are ruining our beautiful mountains. There’s definitely no work in the county all live in unless you drive to Oak Ridge, Knoxville. We have a Walmart, FoodCity save a lot at Food Lion. We have a few department stores a Lowe’s and a tractor supply. It’s getting so bad, especially in the spring and summer. You can’t even drive through town for all the boats and four wheelers. I live 5 miles from I 75 interstate where the big green dragon can be seen from the interstate. It’s been a landmark for close to 40 years. Most of the people coming here are from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky. I know we have a beautiful clean lake, but I mean is there no lakes between here and Michigan? Tennessee is full but they’re still coming here buying up all the property, especially Lakeside property. The locals can’t afford housing because of that.
Preach it brother! The uncontrolled growth that profits those in power is devastating this great state. Follow the money, why else would Politicans promote this disaster. Now if we could just require all comers to stop and stay in Memphis...
I have noticed that a lot of these people that move to E. Tn in very small towns, get bored after 3 to 5 years and actually move back to where they came from. They get tired of living "in the sticks". When these people move here, they want us to change our ways to conform to how they live. Well, bless your hearts, it ain't going to happen! I asked a woman from calf. the other day how she liked living in Tn. and she said "I don't like it here, I don't have many friends". I wonder why? lol
i was born here and i find it boring as hell.... theres nothing to do lmao. and everyone my age agrees with me....she aint wrong. its freaking booooooring.
Rural central Maine here- same thing happened to us during the cough- cough. Home prices are ridiculous now and taxes through the roof.
And the people who bought here complain because everything is so far away or their dirt road is mud - during mud season (spring)!!!
I tend to believe the worst thing we did was pave all our county roads. Seems after we did that, the rural land grab began. Tennessee is definitely changing, and not for the better.
SUBDIVISION AND APARTMENT COMPLEX going up in WALKER COUNTY GEORGIA like freaking crazy.... Rural life is becoming a thing of the past within the last few years, especially if you live within 10 - 20 miles from a city like Chattanooga Tennessee.. I SAW a large apartment complex, 2 New subdivisions , Assisted living complex ALL BUILT IN 2 YEARS.. HOUSE'S 10 FEET APART and the crews were drying in 4 house's per week? NO REAL ESTATE AGENT WOULD TRY TO SALE so from what I hear ALL are FORCED to be rentals 🤔🇺🇸 WHAT'S GOING ON? 🇺🇸 AND BTW all this was built within a mile of RIDGELAND HIGH SCHOOL in WALKER COUNTY GEORGIA....
I’m in the central part of southern Missouri and it’s like that here . They really screwed up the real estate market to where nobody can afford it on a 15.00 wage . Most people don’t want them here .

It's not just Tennessee. I'm in a happy relationship with a large group of RUclipsrs in central Arkansas. We get together and help each other by having work days or parties, meet ups and all that. My channel is small but several channels among us are 100,000 strong. Here's the punch line....me and one other woman are from Arkansas. That's it. We have new people from all over the USA living and homesteading in Arkansas. Arkansas raw land is worth BIG $$ nowadays. BIG. The people buy it sight unseen online. I like all of them, they seem to be doing it for the right reasons, good solid people. The main difference I notice is not many of them homeschool their kids. God bless you MD 🙏

My mother is in a garden group that's attempting to move to Arkansas. The spot they were going for get taken. But things are still in the works.
My mother & I. Is all the family we have. It's us against the world. We're doing Allright, got a small homestead on a hill in the woods out in the country but we both know Ohionisnt were we want to be.
Werenthinking Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma or Arkansas. But with the dumpsterfire the world has become we might end our days on this hill. 😅
I live in Eastern Tennessee as well, and I've noticed the growth over the years. I work in KY and they have to pay taxes every year on everything including there vehicles. In TN we only pay taxes on the car once.
Tennessee is a beautiful state, Some move for the income tax free advantage, but don't realize it is made up by high property taxes.
You know what houses in New England are selling for. Like 100 percent increase.
People moving to Tennessee from high tax blue states are ruining it for native Tennesseans. My husband and I retired and couldn’t make it because of the internal migration running up the cost of housing. We had to move to Mexico to survive. We have 8 grandchildren we miss so terribly. We could have never imagined this would be our life. We are homesick for our beautiful mountains and family. We pray things will swing back the other direction. I told my husband “honey, if I die here..please promise me you will take me home to bury me”.
@larrys4618 obviously, you didn’t bother to read my initial post. I did not move to Mexico because I wanted to. I had to move because I could no longer afford to live in my home state because of the migration of people coming from blue states jacking up the price of everything. You can pound sand.

I know a few people in North Dakota, and they went through the same situations during the oil/fracking boom of the mid 2000s, that you are talking about. Property values & taxes rose out of this world and mostly nothing for sale, trailers of all kinds parked everywhere looking like a trailer trash zone, commodities that you would need for every day were low or hard to find, and everyone, whether residents or boom workers were out to make big bucks, no matter what. When these newcomers get done raping Tennessee of its land & resources, they will move on to another state. Everyone has to stop the invitations and shut the door. The same thing is happening to Missouri & Arkansas...everyone thinks it great because of lower taxes, the privacy on the land, and think that it is a safe haven from the government & our southern invaders...they couldn't be more wrong. @Tracy-wr7mj Doesn't matter what race or creed, if your mortgage is paid in full, and you don't pay your land taxes, you will lose your home and property. As far as the Native American, I can't speak for the people who settled the Dakotas. I do not live there, but my state had many tribes, as well. I or anyone of today is not responsible for the past doings or misfortunes of the past centuries. As far as living on the Res, it is their choice. For a more productive life, I would say that moving off the Res until retirement would be a better choice.
Yes, I’ve noticed this. These “people” move form state to state until it gets unbearable then they move to the next one. I’m assuming because they have money and never are left with the consequences of what they do. They don’t have roots so they don’t understand people who do.
We live in East Tn and we know exactly what you mean. Traffic is horrible, drivers are rude, housing prices have doubled, property taxes are going up! We wish they would go back to where they came from!
