Hey Ansel G! Somewhat-pro Galaxy player here, and I'm here to report that I found eleven jump saves in different levels! Here's the breakdown: Honeyhive 2: I came up with an insane solution to saving the star grab jump. Play the level just like you did before, but when you get to the tree trunk, fall down onto the intended platform. Then fall off and die. This is important later. You hit a checkpoint there, so now go up and hit the switch (which IS possible) and defeat the boss. Now, fall back down onto the Launch Star that takes you to the higher planets. This is why you died earlier: the piranha plant RESPAWNS, so you can do the tricky jump again! Then, get up on the tree trunk like before and carefully fall right on top of the now-spawned star! 1 jump saved. Beach Bowl 1: There exists a dumb, inconsistent glitch called a shore launch... the video will explain it. Anyway, do it once to break the cage, then again, but angled to fall right onto the star. (It is possible, but not pictured.) 3 jumps saved. Toy Time 2: Yep, you can make it. 1 jump saved. Star Reactor: When you crouch spin, you can bonk twice. If you bonk twice, Mario goes into a freefall state. He can grab ledges in this state, so that saves one jump on the staircase. 1 jump saved. Melty Molten 1: You can go into first-person to activate the Pull Star from far away without jumping. This also works in other levels like A Very Spooky Sprint, which makes it easier jumpless. I'm surprised you didn't know about this. 1 jump saved. Sea Slide 3: Solved with the power of crab. 1 jump saved. Space Junk 1/Space Junk Comet: It was mentioned in another comment, but here's video proof. 1 jump saved for each. Toy Time 3: There is a solution: just don't play this level! Instead, you can play Deep Dark Secret. It's easy to get to the boo in a box, but the box itself is a little tricky. You can spin-bonk to grab the nails and go off of those (not a jump by your rules), and precisely damage-boost to some spring platforms. You do need to jump one time to grab the star at the end, but that's still better than two jumps to beat Toy Time 3. Better route, 1 jump saved. That's really neat to see someone defining a "jump" in a realistic way, as opposed to "an a/b/x/y press". I mean, those definitions are fine, and they make the rules simpler, but it's nice to see a jump just be... a jump. EDIT: 10:38 I'm serious, every game developer ever forgets the backwards speed cap.
I just hate when people use their own definitions to say "well I didn't mention this earlier sooo technically it's not a jump" instead of a logical "would someone call this a jump in a casual playthrough." Like using the jump button to jump higher on a spring because mario isn't doing the animation so it doesn't count? That's a jump.

The lily pad trick is very important for challenges. I’ve used it before when I tried to beat Super Mario Galaxy without power ups. There’s sometimes a chance that the lily pad will move to a side which can be very useful but also very difficult.
I’m only twelve minutes in and I’m just completely mesmerized by all of the tricks you’ve performed. I can’t even begin to imagine how you found all of these as I’ve never seen anything like it. Awesome stuff!

I like the consept of Luigi collecting stars while you are too, hes actually doing something on his own adventure and you're working together like brothers would.
This guy has the biggest brain on the planet, you can tell by the way he finesses these games to avoid doing things . If he were working towards a cure for cancer we would have it in a year.
In Space Junk 1 you can skip the first jump by riding the gravity from the first section with backwards momentum to get straight to the pull stars after the rocket ship. You can find it by searching something along the lines of "Space Junk 1 skip"

I have somehow seen no comments about this but if you play on the 3D all stars version (if you have it) in handheld mode then pull stars can be activated with the touch screen, which would save any jumps that come from using pull stars.

Good video, but this is something to note: There is another way to use the pull stars that ISN’T pressing A when he is in his walking animation, the OTHER way is that if you are playing on the Super Mario 3D All Stars version of the game (you have to be on the Switch), you can go into handheld mode and TAP on the pull star without Mario jumping or forcing him into his walking animation!

I want to preface this comment by saying that I admire the ingenuity that went into this video, it is very clear that you put a lot of time and effort into not only figuring out the best way to do this, but to actually perform it too. That being said, I am a little frustrated with the abundance of videos of this nature. I am perfectly fine with the concept of "How many X does it take to beat Y", it's absolutely valid. However, what bothers me is that videos of this nature tend to try and minimize the amount of Xing overall through abnormal things that the average player would not do on a general playthrough. That being said, of course, what I would much rather see in these kinds of videos is the minimum amount of X needed to beat Y, but Xing as normal. In this case, what is the minimum amount of jumps it would take to beat SMG, but without actively avoiding trying to jump when the average person absolutely would. Closing out, I once again want to say mad props to you for this video, I am impressed at your performance
I’m gonna be honest, this type of video would definitely be interesting, since I would be looking at playthroughs of other people playing and instead of counting how many jumps it took, I would have to count by the average it took between all of them to complete it. This does actually sound interesting and I might try something like this one day. Thanks for the idea!
By the way, you probably could have gotten the king kaliente star much easier. If you go into the orange pipe on the other side if the planet and exit the one at the top of the area, it actually puts you right on the house. This is actually the intentional way to get the star, but everyone just jumps on top of the house
Great video! I believe that a 1 jump run for the first space junk Galaxy star is possible. There is a pull star momentum exploit you can use at the beginning of the stage to skip the 3 balls with the star shards, which in theory should remove 2 jumps.

A little tip for those attempting the challenge on Wii: In order to use the pointer right after spinning, shake the Nunchuk instead of the Wii Remote.

Compromise: Spring Mario jumps only don't count if you do it while Mario is upside-down. Then it's his head leaving the ground, not his feet.

By the way, you probably could have gotten the king kaliente star much easier. If you go into the orange pipe on the other side if the planet and exit the one at the top of the area, it actually puts you right on the house. This is actually the intentional way to get the star, but everyone just jumps on top of the house
the pipe puts you into a room that will allow you to get on top of the house using a second pipe (the second pipe would require a jump)

If you use the Nintendo Switch version, you can actually use the touch controls to use the pullstar without Mario jumping.

Great video! I believe that a 1 jump run for the first space junk Galaxy star is possible. There is a pull star momentum exploit you can use at the beginning of the stage to skip the 3 balls with the star shards, which in theory should remove 2 jumps.
