Edo tortoiseshell goods are made from the shells of hawksbill sea turtles, using a special technique to attach pieces of shell together. During the Edo era, tortoiseshell kimono accessories were produced in the Kanto region. Items produced today include accessories for both traditional Japanese and modern Western clothing as well as frames for eyeglasses.

The Japanese work is the creat in world 🌎 😍
Awesome
So beautiful!
Love Anything from Japan.
very impressive!
Amazing 👏
Beautiful craft! Thanks
pretty sure you can't bring those into the US, like ivory, which I see there occasionally
佩服
I love it.
so this is technically an ancient pla plastic! never underestimate the knowledge of the past.
Amazing to see people create wonderful arts out of literally nothing.
👏👏👏👏👏👍
🇫🇷🙏🙏👏👏👏👏
👍🇵🇹
Amazing craftsmanship. I am concerned about the tortoises though, even if farmed. I hope they are treated humanely when their time comes.

Are these items available for purchase?
Thank you for sharing. Anyone knows approx. price for such glasses?
The shop doesn't do sales of glasses online due to the individual fitting requirements per customer(not made to a general template), so the pricing isn't listed. But overseas shops that seem to be listing similar types seem to be asking for about 500 USD a pair or so. Might be cheaper in person, might be more expensive(mass produced vs order made), but hard to say without accounting for specifics of each order...
@@maqywhaq Thank you. Overseas shops offer not real tortoise shell I guess.

🇸🇦👍🏻
I love the work but poor animals🥺
yeah unique items craftsman's soul...not recycable like plastic but more bio
it's illegal most everywhere. This turtle is almost extinct because of the use of the shell
It was well skill. But, no good use from animals....save turtles
no mass product
@@iagusi2532 don't matter. You have to kill the turtle for her shell
Great craftmansship, but those glasses are ugly as hell.
Don't they remind you of these old school frames from resin/ cheap plastic that old timers used to wear?
@@fingerstyleguitas9046 Yes, they do. These glasses are not ugly at all. They're timeless.
Poor animals... 😥
Sad to still see real tortoise shell being used like this
