It's hard to believe, but the Bermuda Sands is even WORSE now. In 2012 when I stayed there, my ground floor room was dirty, the coffee pot still had a little coffee in it, the filter full of old coffee grounds, the dresser had two drawers that were broken, the floor dipped steeply in front of the bathroom (covered by carpet), roach in bathroom, the door had a key lock in the doorknob and NO safety lock. I was stuck there because I had come there with friends who felt THEIR room was "fine". My sister was one floor above me with similar problems. There was a shelf that was detached from the wall and just laying there near the bed. One night a drunken girl was passed out in the hall upstairs near our friends' room! Some years ago, a man was killed in their lobby and was lying there in front of the elevator! A woman had to step over him to leave the elevator and they refused to refund her money when she decided to leave early because of the murder! This is so sad for the people who live there and can't leave, or don't want to leave. The beach is beautiful. The surrounding area was lovely, too.
We stayed at the Shady Rest every summer when I was growing up in the 80s. We loved it back then! It was a fun, family place to stay. I'm sad that it's gone downhill over the years. I hope that, with the new renovations, it can become a nice, family motel again. It's in a great location, close to the beach, and it has the potential to become a nice place again. Fortunately, I've never stayed at any of these. Motels. We started going to North Myrtle Beach many years ago to get away from the MB scene. Personally, I like the old Americana, roadside style of motels, but many of those have fallen into disrepair, less than pleasant establishments. ***Folks, please read reviews on motels before booking***. When we used to go to MB in the late 50s and early 60s we stayed a a little motel where the Polynesian is then stayed at a house beside the polynesian. My parents later bought a motel down the beach a bit. I worked at a motel 3 blocks from there in 1980.. we would go cut the lights on in all the rooms that had reservations coming in about 5:30 or six so they would not see the bugs when they turned on the lights... south Myrtle Beach has always been about 80% skanky..... but looks like it is worse now
YOU WOULD THINK THAT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT/CITY/COULD/WOULD CLOSE THESE PLACES DOWN! ESPECIALLY WITH HAVING RATS,ROACHES,BED BUGS,ETC,RUNNING AROUND/MOLD,NO DECENT WATER,GET DISEASES LIKE THAT,UNSANITARY CONDITIONS/THE SORRY OWNERS DON’T WANT TO SPEND NO $/THEY SHOULD BE MADE TOO SELL!!! HOPE “ALL” OF THESE YOU SHOWN ARE “DEMOLISHED” THEY ARE OLD,DATED & UNSAFE! ;-| THANKS FOR SHARING

Same thing for me. Stayed at Ocean Star Hotel last weekend, charged me 250$ because I supposedly smoke in a non smoking room: I don’t even smoke! Roaches, very dirty, etc.. Should be razed to the ground. Front desk hardly answer the phone. Don’t trust the manager. And don’t trust the check-out dropbox for the keycard, they check me out two days later and they don’t want to refund me.
Unfortunately Myrtle Beach has been lost. I vacationed here from 1960 until I moved here in 2004. I watched the cities demise beginning in 2007. Trying to be hopeful and positive for the longest time, I sure hoped things would make a turn for the better. I just don’t see things changing in the foreseeable future. As more families go north or south now, it’s depressing to think what it will be in 10 years. Pray for a miracle.
Ocean plaza is pretty decent it's right on the ocean it's near friendly s has an indoor pool and hot tub you can usually book it for $60 plus a __$15 resort charge or the polynesian it's part of ocean plaza

Around 2011 Bermuda Sands was the cheapest and was clean back then....Now it has bugs and bed bugs.
The Shady Rest was the place to stay for anyone from Troy NY on high school spring break in the late 90s thru early 2000s 😆

I stayed at Bermuda Sands a few years ago. It looked nice on the outside but our room was nasty. I made them reclean it. I also got some money back.

When I was kid about 14-15 Bermuda sands was amazing but now it’s trash and druggies

Those places should renovate, raise their prices through the roof and have security active. That should keep ‘em away.

The polynesian isn't that bad a bit older looking the pools are pretty good here there's no bugs

Stayed in the poly over July 4th never had issues I think ppl complain to much it was a decent hotel for the price

I have actually, about 4 years ago. It was through a time share a family member had. We enjoyed it.
@@Kcterry ok we are going on sept and we are hearing a lot of bad things about the area.
It gets pretty crowded downtown during the summer, a lot going on. Things will slow down some after school starts back in August.
We love the Seaglass! My mom has a timeshare and we go there quite often. It's really nice.
