As a retired military man, I was amazed at how different (not better or worse) it was living in another country with an official job to do instead of just visiting to explore. For me, having a specific purpose was just as important as the economics, security, unique sites, etc. For example, going to a country to assist with the building of a small hospital was way different than going to the same country to party on the beach everyday. Hope this makes sense. 😁
I think the expat drive is based on the unrealistic dream that relocating to an area will be like a continuous vacation. Once you move to an area, even a supposed paradise like Tahiti, daily life takes over and you have to deal with the same stressors that you did in the US. Actually, the stressors will increase because the language and culture will be unfamiliar. In addition, you will have no support system.
Great tips about speaking the language. It would also be great to see the good, bad and ugly about moving back to the US. Let’s face it the tensions are high in America for so many reasons. I also agree that people shouldn’t just listen to RUclipsrs when moving abroad especially if their businesses rely on relocation services. They should try things out temporarily.
You ever notice the USA isn’t on any, or at the bottom of lists of countries to retire to. Probably the same reason people in retirement are leaving. It costs to much is one of them. Just had 2 mass shootings. From a foreigners prospective who don’t have guns as much as the USA, that sounds very scary. Even though people are coming and trying to enter the USA, it’s definitely not for retirement, but for an economic standpoint. After reading some of the comments of those from South America coming there, even the legal ones say it’s not that easy to get a leg up financially.

Partly because some of the people on our channel want to leave the USA! But many foreigners move to the USA.
