I've just finished restoring a 100s I bought from Ebay for £100. I had one years ago when I was in my teens and it took me a while to track down what it was from memory. What a joy it was restoring it and it sounds really nice on my pair of Quads. Non of which would have been possible without these series of videos. I didn't leave anything to chance and watch all the videos before starting anything. A few outstanding tasks, restore the motor, though it's running fine and a new phono lead but these can be carried out as and when. Mine is in amazing condition and now it's fully functional I'm really happy with it. The main issue I had was the speed/ arm swing distance mechanism wasn't working as it was seized on it's pivot at the tone arm end, after a little heat and light lubricant it freed up. For the whole degrease and lub stage I used switch lubricant wiping away the gunk as it built up. Thanks again for taking the time to record all the steps and including good solid advice.
@@hollowheadsrestorations I saw in you final video you had a similar issue with the arm swing but yours had damage to the selector lever and the plate under it. Mine was caused by the pivot the selector lever sits on had seized, as I said a little heat soon sorted that out.
Thanks for such a thorough refurb & documentation.. I'm in the process of picking up an aged unit up, I'll be using this series to hopefully get it up & running like new :)
Hi ! Thank you so much for these very explaining videos ! I had never dared to buy this used Zero100 I found without watching your videos first. The one I got had almost exactly the same errors and now I have made it work 100 (!) %. Greeting from Sweden !
Great series! Thanks for that. I got one from a friend and this helps a lot (I am a complete newbie 😊) ❗ Unfortunately I have one thing I just can't find online. I got one without an element and it looks like a sliding mechanism (not like the connectors with two screws I see in almost all other old players). Could you tell me what type of cartridge/needle I need to do look for? What would be a good value one? Many thanks ❗
You need ro have the Cartridge Mount ZB_19 for Garrard Model ZERO-100-SB or equivalent. The cartridge is mounted to this, and slides into place on the headshell as you suggest. Most any standard cartridge will mount there. I would recommend a high compliance Shure style cartridge, if you can find one. I have also mounted Ortofon cartridges successfully. Depends on how much you want to spend on it. If you find a used or vintage cartridge, it may be fine, but make sure you can get a new stylus and do so. Don’t chance your vinyl to an unknown, and likely bad stylus.
Hey one question for the speed selection the cam that should fall in the notches is very gummed up I wonder if I can get at a better angle to at least free it up so when I turn the knob it pushes back into the notches?
What a great set of videos,I followed them when I cleaned and lubed mine but for some reason now the idler wheel won’t contact the platter, what did I do wrong?
Hard to say with certainty.. and it’s been a while since I worked on one of these. It’s a fairly straightforward mechanism, so just check everything for free movement, nothing sticking, jamming etc. also check the springs. The other possibility is that you don’t have the drive shaft of the motor lined up properly with the idler. If I recall it’s a stepped shaft. Hope that helps!
@@hollowheadsrestorations Thank you for your reply I think you said you live in Canada I wish you lived here in South Florida I’d have you do a job at my zero 100 your videos are very helpful thank you very much Mike
I have to watch this I was given a free Zero 100 but the parts have mostly got very gummed up but my biggest thing is I want to put it in a wooden plinth but I'm not sure where to find a template for it.
Hello I have a turntable Garrard zero 100 sb works correctly, except that when I put a disk, and use the automatic, the arm low in the middle of the disk, as if there was a small disk. you would know how to adjust that error ... from now thank you very much
SAB8 the issue will be one of a couple of things. It will either be in the speed/size changing mechanism below the speed/size knob. This mechanism needs to move freely. The other possible issue is the mechanism directly under the tone arm. It’s hard to describe but there are metal plates/tops that determine where the tone arm will drop. I have seen these bent slightly. The only way to figure this out is to place the turntable upside down on a platform like I have in the video, and manually rotate the turntable and watch what is happening underneath the tone arm to see what’s causing the issue. Lubrication is usually the number 1 issue, a bent plate/stop is the second most common issue.

@hollowheadsrestorations Thank you very much for your help!
Magnavox made a changer with a tonearm that was quite similar to the one on the Zero100
hello thanks for a great series of videos. They helped me solve problems with automation and the choice of the size of the plate. thanks again.

Just picked one of these, along with a zero 100s, great video
Thanks for the comments.. much appreciated! Looking for my next project to post!
Hi I really like your videos on the zero 100 did you ever rewire a tonearm
Thanks for the comments. No, I haven’t done a tonearm rewire. It can be done, but would be a challenge on the zero-100 for sure.

Very helpful, thank you very much.
My Z2000B will not stop at 12" record boundary, it goes to a 10" point, Any ideas?
