Exploring the Flavours of Chinatown: Manila Food Tour 🇵🇭

- Would a stay in Manila, The Philippines, really be complete without a visit to Binondo, the oldest Chinatown in the world!? In our opinion, no… hehe. We start the day by strolling through our new neighbourhood of Malate. Here we pass by one of the hearty local breakfast options. Dylan simply couldn’t say no! We continue our walk through the local parks and even pass by a beach! Finally, we reach Chinatown, where we eat as much as possible. In true 2passports1dream fashion, we make sure that it’s mostly desserts and sweet treats! What an amazingly delicious start to the day here in Manila.

Welcome everyone who recently subscribed - we are so close to 100k subscribers, can we do it before the new year? Remember to hit that subscribe button! 👍😀
It is doable! Hey folks, let's help these young ones hit the magic 100K before the year ends!
I think ma'am you should visit India as you are vegetarian India is heaven for vegetarian only country which more than 10k vegetarian dishes
What a walk that was ü
Some traditional dishes to consider being pesca myself:
• Grilled boneless _Bangus:_ grilled milk fish with vegetable stuffing, usually chopped tomatoes, onions and leek; some with ginger. Most grilled fishes also provide the veggie _ensalada_ sides;
• Any of the local veg stew with fish, typically:
-- _Guinataan_ or _Gata_ (ie. coconut milk): with squash, string beans / with _ampalaya_ (bitter gourd) / with young jackfruit but do ask bec most version have pork instead; or any _guinataan_ fishes or ginataang _gulay_ (vegetable/s);
• Veg salads ("ensalada"), depending on where and what's available; usually with tomatoes and onions in vinegar: Ampalaya salad, Green Papaya (this one is specifically called _atchara_ like chutney but sweeter and lighter without the spices); tHere's also Green mango salad by itself or with shrimp paste or fish sauce;
• Tortang Talong (eggplant): Grilled eggplant, skinned and fried in beaten egg like an omelet (the "torta") but the eggplant is whole flattened, not squashed;
• Chopseuy: some variations are all-vegetable but not those served in street canteens. Restos that cook it upon order may prepare one without the meats
(PS You missed Quan Yin Chay in Chinatown, a vegetarian resto.) Bon appetit!
Driving into Metro Manila traffic yourselve during the holidays? That will be an adventure for sure. Travel safely!
try a Mung bean stew called Monggo (some variants use Shrimp instead of pork)
Lots of ginatan dishes (don't use pork) like papaya ginataan
I recommend - tortang talong (eggplant omelet, if you eat egg too. There's also different veggie varieties of the known dishes, like the adobong sitaw (string beans) or adobong kang kong (water spinach), there's Laing (taro leaves cooked in coconut milk), vegetable kare kare, and others
Oh that sounds amazing 😍😍😍 I love eggplant!!
I got to give you a huge credit. You are one of the few adventurous foreign vloggers when it comes to trying food & going places that are not so popular to visit. We hope you can explore more that the Philipines can offer.Have safe travels.
Thank you so much 😍🤗
I remember growing up my favored way to eat breakfast was at the roadside stalls, places that were run by a family or mom.
arroz caldo in the morning, then either fish or nilaga on my way back home.
@@linusa2996 welcome to the Philippines hope you enjoy the places you go why don't you visit Palawan
@@merciditacapacillo891 I'm not in the PI, Washington State at this time. Hope to come home soon, have places to visit, Vigan, Mindanao, Bataan. Visit my grand parents graves.
The river in Metro Manila is the Pasig River... Gulaman is from seaweed... Sago't Gulaman is one with tapioca and jelly sweetened by vanilla extract or muscovado sugar
Oh interesting! Thank you 🤗🤗
I hope you will be able to witness and experience the festivals here in the Philippines after the Christmas season
1-a. Sinulog Festival in Cebu City on January 15, 2023 or
1-b. Ati-Atihan in Kalibo, Aklan also on January 15, 2023
2. Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo City on January 22, 2023
3. Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City on February 25-26, 2023
Thank you for the recommendations! 🤗😍

BEST TOURIST SPOTS IN MAKATI CITY, MANILA (Check it out in RUclips) Hello Myer Travels I highly recommend to visit this places in Makati City, Manila , THE FINANCIAL CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES.
1. Stroll Along Ayala Triangle Gardens, it is a triangular open park located in the middle of Makati Avenue, Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas Street. It is similar in the Central Park in New York which provides city dwellers and tourists an open green space to work out and enjoy nature.
2. Visit Yuchengco Museum in Makati City, located in RCBC Plaza and it is a beautiful art and design gallery established by the former Philippine Ambassador Alfonso Yuchengco. The three-level museum is home to many paintings from Filipino masters, photos of the founders meetings with world leaders, and a collection of Jose Rizal memorabilia.
3. Have a Great Time at Greenbelt Mall Complex. Greenbelt has a total of five shopping areas from Greenbelt 1 to 5. All five are located at the heart of Ayala Center, with Greenbelt 5 as the newest and most upscale of all five shopping areas. There are water fountains, a chapel, sculptures, a pond and towering trees that provide people shade even during midday.
4. Enjoy at Glorietta Mall Complex. Glorietta was once an open park used by a local film company to shoot a youth-comedy drama. After it's conversion into a shopping complex, the first Glorietta Mall was opened in 1991 & has quickly become an iconic shopping and entertainment destination for families & tourists.
5. Relax at Salcedo Park in Makati City, which is also known as Jaime C. Velasquez Park, is the Home of Art in the Park. The yearly event features a huge collection of printed works, sculptures, paintings and more that you can purchase.
6. Hang-out at Washington Sycip Park, is a wonderful and quiet place to take a leisurely stroll in between meetings. The park has also several sculptures by Filipino sculptor Impy Pilapil, a gazebo, and piped-in music.
7. See Relics at Museo ng Makati. The building was built in 1918 and has served as the Makati Town Hall until 1961. Today, the museum holds a collection of murals, artifacts, rare and old photos of Makati, dioramas, and relics of Makati's rich cultural history.
8. Contemplate at Saint Andrew the Apostle Church. Located in Bel-Air II, and was designed by Filipino National Artist Leandro Locsin in 1968 and was dubbed as a modern-looking church.
9. Shop Until You Drop at Powerplant Mall. It is located in Rockwell Tower, an area that is known as a "city within the city" and it is a favorite go-to place for the rich and celebrities.
10. Have Fun at Circuit Makati. It is the newest addition to Makati City's list of top-notch shopping destinations. Located at the old Sta. Ana racetrack and it is a recreational hub with great facilities the families can enjoy. There are also sports facilities here including a football field (Gatorade Chelsea FC Blue Fitch), a skate park (Mountain Dew Skate Park), and a kart racing facility
Hi guys. About Chinese Fresh Lumpia, as far as i know, it doesn't have meat. It's also one of my favorites and we even sometimes make it ourselves. But we do add Chicken cube (or buillon) to the veggies just to add more flavor to it. But the ones sold in shops, maybe they use some meat stock.
As for our other veggie dishes, here are some recommendations:
Adobong Kangkong (water spinach)
Pinakbet (assorted local veggies with Bagoong which is shrimp paste)
Laing (Taro leaves cooked in coconut milk with chillies)
Lumpiang Ubod
Lumpiang Togue
Tortang Talong (Taste Atlas' World's Best Egg Dish)
Ginisang Ampalaya with Egg (a little bitter because Ampalaya is bitter gourd)
Ginataang Sitaw at Kalabasa
Monggo Guisado
However, some of these are hard to come by when you eat out, tbh. You need to go to a Filipino restaurant. I recommend eating at Singing Cooks and Waiters. The FiIipino food there is not just great, you have a lot of fun and great entertainment as well. :)
About our Ube, it's actually sad coz i heard other Asian countries are now planting and even exporting it. That's becoz farmers here lack the support of the government. But yeah, just want to let you know Ube originated here. :)
Oh amazing thank you for all the recommendations!!! 🥰🥰
Love your new look Dylan! Annnnd Adriana I just wanted to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE your style! You can dress up or down and you always look fashionable and gorgeous! I always try to emulate your style 😊
Ah thank you so much!! ❤️🥰 hehe that’s made me so happy!
New subscriber here from Las Vegas 🇺🇸 but I grew up in Makati. Glad you both are enjoying my home country. Bon voyage
I adore you two already. So nice to watch a fun couple 😊
Oh amazing!! Thank you very much 🥰🤗
You can get good Chinese Food at the Shopping Malls. For fast food, try ChowKing which is usually always packed. For better quality at a higher price, try eating at NorthPark. I also recommend eating at Savory Chicken, Gerry's Grill and Max's Fried Chicken. To get a taste of a wide variety of local dishes, try the Cabalen Buffet. There's usually a HenLin food stall at the food court of any SM Mall. Their Hopia and Somai are comparable to what you can get at Binondo Chinatown.
Some vegetarian friendly Filipino dish:
1. Laing (Taro leaves in coconut milk)
2. Ensaladang Talong (Eggplant Salad)
3. Sizzling Tofu
4. Ginataang Langka (young Jackfruit in coconut milk)
Wooooooah eggplant salad 👀😍 I love eggplant - that sounds amazing! Thank you!
*chopsuey
*Ginisang ampalaya
*Laswa
Some "PINAKBET" are all veggies version. Really taste good.
watching your full video stay safe
Long hair really suits Dylan - makes him look like a musician :) but the short hair will be so much more practical - especially in the hot weather and when travelling. Hope you guys hit 100k before NY - good luck.
Exactly! Hope so. thank you!
@@2Passports1Dream wow 106k already!! Well done - thanks for the videos :)
Thanks for sharing another great video. I enjoyed watching it once again and also loved it too. 👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰
Thank you very much 🥰🥰
Hey! Since you're pescatarian you can go to any "Dampa" market or seaside market so you can have more fish or seafood options. If you are still in Manila the nearest would be around the Mall if Asia vicinity. They call it market but they are more of a string of restaurants.
Must stop watching your uploads when feeling so hungry 😮, the food looks so tasty.
Hahahah it’s a dangerous game - may have to go and get a snack 👀🤗 hehe!
Across the river from Chinatown is Intramuros , the Walled City of Manila ,built in the late1600’s. A must visit in Manila!
Thank you for visiting our islands.
You guys are the dessert kings, I love it....Dylan's summer mullet and Adrianna's wit, this is 🔥
🙌
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video n for showing your explorations in Manila. Yes, Dylan does look a bit different from d last haircut, hope Adriana liked it too.
Hehehe I love it! 👀🤗 thank you!
@@2Passports1Dream Hehehe. 😁
Our local government is still linient to those loud jeepneys about noise pollution. Because the legislative government hasnt pass a law yet to illegalize noisy vehicles like those jeepneys
Oh interesting!! Thank you for sharing 🤗
Lenient or Passive? Government can't do anything. Those jeepneys are horrible.
@@d.l.c7456 thats your opinion, not mine.
@@feg466 not an opinion rather an observation. A Fact.
What our government needs to do is to pass a law eradicating these old. loud and pollution emitting jeepneys and replace them with e- jeepneys! That’s what Metro Manila needs!
I saw you eat a tuna pie from Jollibee once, so if you can eat fish, I recommend trying a bangus sisig (bangus is milkfish). Sisig is one of the signature dishes of the Philippines but it is usually made from pork, but there are some restaurants who serve a seafood variety as well.
Other options are vegetable kare-kare, pinakbet, laing, tortang talong, chopsuey, sizzling tofu, ginataang langka, bulanglang (has shrimp or fish), monggo, and paco salad. ☺️
Wow, you two are physically fit to walk all over. The sugary drink will boost energy especially walking for miles all day. Her positive vibes energized me to watch your channel more and more. Stay safe and thanks for sharing. God bless and have a wonderful New Year.
Thank you so much 🥰🤗
I highly recommend that you visit Vigan, Baguio, Sagada and Batanes in northern Philippines and know the reason why. There are beautiful beaches there too like Pagudpod, vitalis villas, elyu, hundred islands, bolinao etc. Most tourists head south which is the Visayas particularly Cebu but as a local I have to say that the beaches and the cultures of the North are more beautiful, pristine but underrated and the culture there are authentic yet underrated
Thank you for the recommendations!! 🥰
I am from the Mindanao part of the Country (southern part). And I have to agree with her recom and Sagada is theee best! 🎉
I don't think so
@@amanboy what do you think about the yvatans and their stone houses and ancient fortress? How 'bout the Igorots with their Rice Terraces, hanging coffins, ancient mummies and Wang-od. What can you say about the Unesco world heritage city of Vigan (the north has 4 unesco world heritage sites)and the Unesco Creative city of Baguio. Not to mention its colonial sites, forested mountain ranges with lots of vegetables and fruits. Not to mention its islands, caves, waterfalls, beautiful unspoilt beaches. Im telling the truth the North as well as Mindanao has more culture and has alot more to offer than the overrated Visayas I mean lets be real the food alone are authentic filipinos. Ive been to the Visayas thats why I know. The North and the places in Mindanao with its aborigines has more cultures preserved in time by themselves despite so many colonizations
@@littlesparrow1284 Batanes is a separate island btw which I love, but I’d rather go South, thank you
Totally missing out if you don’t try the bone marrow dish
You can go Batangas including Tagaytay which is 2 hours away from Manila for a roadtrip. Enjoy 😊
Thank you for the recommendation 😍🤗
Nice adventure in China town. please dont escape adds for this wonderful couple. stay safe and God Bless. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thank you so much 🤗🥰
If you guys want a guided food tour around Chinatown, go with Cian.. He's guided a lot of vloggers and has been doing it for a long time..
Cian who?
@@Sir_Sway I think its Jian Joseph.
Thank you for the recommendation 😍🤗 we probably won’t do Chinatown again - we tried to do something that wasn’t guided so you haven’t seen it exactly before!
Jian's tour, while excellent, has already been covered by many other vloggers, so that vlog wont add any value to the viewers
Gulaman is the jelly, the drink is caramelized or boiled brown sugar diluted in iced water
Ohhhh interesting! Thank you 🤗
What an interesting and fun food tour through Manila China town! What tempted me the most though were the crunchy and flaky “flans” !😋🇵🇹
Thank you very much!! They were SO delicious 😍😍
Hello always watch your vlog enjoy explore in beautiful dolomite beach Rizal park and china town and enjoy food trip.its more fun in the Philippines god bless stay safe
Thank you so much 🥰🤗 happy Christmas 🎄❤️
unfortunately Filipinos are very fond of Meat especially pork but I think there are still things that you can try being a pescatarian.
1. Pancit bihon (can substitute pork with shrimp)
2. Pinakbet (can substitute pork with local fish called galung gong)
3. Laing (taro leaves in coconut milk - but some resto still put pork in it so you can ask the cook to ommit the pork.)
4. ensalada talong (eggplant salad)
5. chop suey ( creamy veggie mix - just ask the chef since some resto put chicken breast)
6. ginataan gulay (squash string beans in a coconut milk usually with shrimp)
7. Sinigang sa Miso / sinigang Bangus (milk fish sinigang)
but if you guys wanna try Filipino vegetarian food then I recommend
COSMIC vegan resto located at Poblacion in Makati, notable popular vegan version dish are:
*SILOG Meals
*Adobo
*Lumpia Shanghai
*Ensalada
*Kare kare
*Sisig
*sinigang
etc.
Amazing amazing! Thank you for the recommendations 😍🤗 sounds amazing!
Welcome to the Philippines! You should definitely try fresh lumpia, we call them lumpiang sariwa, which is all vegetables. And since you like desserts you need to try turon and banana que. Keep exploring and enjoy our beaches, our mountains, our cities, our food, and most specially, our people!
Thank you so much 🤗🤗 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 so much delicious food to try 😍
Poblascion has a lot of variety of restaurants to middle eastern food, korian, mexican food to name a few. There is also the 50's diner American style restaurant.
1. Gulaman is Tagalog (or Filipino) for jelly.
2. Metro Manila is what it is called. It consists of 17 cities including the country's capital which is the City of MANILA. Malate (where you're staying) is in Manila. The largest of the cities is QUEZON CITY, east of Manila.
You should try lumpiang ubod, bangus (milkfish) sisig, relyenong bangus, lumpiang gulay, adobong sitaw, ensaladang talong with green mango and tomatoes plus rice
try fresh lumpia thats all veggies inside with sauce.enjoy your binondo tour guys.take care always.🌲🌲🌲😍👍✌🙏🇵🇭
Malate- more like a red light district. It is also,I believe , Manila’s KoreaTown.
Dolomite Beach is a view beach, not a swimming beach. You’ll have to leave Manila to enjoy our beaches. Perhaps Cavite or Batangas province would be the closest.
Oh interesting 👀🤗
Popular vegetable dish here in Philippines
Pinakbet/pakbet
Diningdeng
Bulanglang
Adobong kangkong
Adobong sitaw
Chopsuey
Mungo/Monngo Gisado/Guisado
Ginisang repolyo with canned sardines

very few vegetarian dishes here. anything stirfried can have pork in it. for pescatarians, I suggest visiting a Sutokil in Cebu as they specialize cooking fish 3 ways: grilled, stewed, and Kilaw which is basically the same as ceviche.

Will try but we usually are asleep by 10 lol!
@@2Passports1Dream : Nobody will sleep that early on New Year's Day in the Philippines, especially because that's when most of the firecrackers start all the way until past midnight. Also the Media Noche meal among families is served at midnight.

Yes, when you are first timer in Manila, to see the METRO MANILA (not train) you must see first Binondo area which Chinatown is located and nearby StaCruz/Quiapo and Luneta park, the Old Manila per see... Then, later the HIGH END Areas in Greater Manila see the beauty, PH has, experiencing from old to most modern environtment..

if you want vegetable meals, you'd have to go up north to the Mountainous area called Baguio City also known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines due to it's cold weather. Not really cold but it's chilly you'd need a sweater.

Welcome to our beautiful country Philippines lovely couple👍🏻, New subs here...
Thank you so much ❤️❤️
If you ever have time, try visiting the nothern part of the country. Specifically the ilocos region, Cordillera region, and the province of Batanes which is considered the most beautiful province in the country. Ilocos is famous for their beaches. Cordillera region is known for being mountainous and cold climate. And batanes, well the whole province of Batanes is pretty much the tourist spot.
Also you should try looking up las casas Filipinas de Acuzar in bagac, bataan which is pretty close to manila. The place is pretty much a recreation of what the Philippines look like hundreds of years ago. But if you don't have time for that then you can just go to las casas in Quezon city which is a smaller version of las casas.
Also since you're asking for a vegetarian food, then I'd recommend you to try "pinakbet".
Amazing! Thank you for all the recommendations 😍🤗❤️
You can try the famous “Laing” or “Pinangat” in Albay. It is a vegetable thingy famous in our place. You can have it spicy or just the original one. I hope u can visit Albay. I am sure that u will enjoy if u visit Albay.
Agar is the substance that gives Gulaman its jelly texture
