In the 60’s and 70’s it was a matter of pride that Sonic was an Oklahoma company. Some of my friends worked there in high school and college. It was affordable and still pretty good, better than McD’s. One of the few companies that has managed to grow and change with the times and tastes of America 🇺🇸. Too bad they don’t have some the old menu items, Frito chill pie and chicken fried steak sandwich. Good retrospective video 👍

When, they first opened one in Indiana they had chuckwagon sandwiches on the menu within a year and, a half after they opened that one (Madison), I was disappointed that it had been taken off the menu. That’s one of the sandwich my childhood was made of. Breaded deep fried steak. Pete’s Pride was company that makes them frozen but, there’s nothing that beats it when it’s made fresh and hand battered. Anywhere, I see it on the menu, I usually get one.

The vanilla and sugar are why I don't like them. Onion rings should be savory, not candy-like.

I work for a Sonic and I make the onion rings by hand every morning. Most Sonics now a days have machines (which I've never seen one) to do there onion rings. Anyone that I have taught how to do the onion rings who come from other Sonics says they would rather do them by hand like we do then deal with the machine.

Been going to Sonic since the mid-60's when we'd always stop at the Sonic in Woodward, OK on our way to Grandpa and Grandma's in Jennings, OK (west of Tulsa, basically a wide spot in the road). Later worked as a carhop in 1969 at the Sonic in my hometown, but we didn't use roller skates. A lot of the early Sonics have closed, in some cases new ones opened in a different location. Still a treat to stop at a Sonic on trips back and forth to Wichita.

I grew up in Longview Tex and remember the first Sonic, which was located on South High st. Everyone went nuts over the roller-skating car-hops. They still have Sonic on High st. a couple of blocks down from the original. Plus locations all over town.
What bugs me is, I can't for the life of me think of who had the speaker box that inspired them. That'll bug me for days.

My hometown in west Tennessee got a Sonic around 1977. It was our second fast food restaurant (Dairy Queen predated it by 7 years.) It was THE place to hang out during my high school years! Of course, the right side was where the cool people hung out and the left side was the “nerd” side. That same Sonic (with some updates) is still there today, and is the go-to place for getting a cold drink on a hot day!
