Absolutely wonderful in every respect. A heartbreakingly beautiful piece of music which the musicians here completely realise. The pianist is articulate - her performance completely understands Finzi's nods to the C18 idiom. I cried watching this performance. Marvellous indeed, and a performance I shall never forget.
I should also have said that the pianist has a poise and grace which befits this remarkable piece of English lyrical music, as does the entire ensemble for that matter. Anthony
Lots of light & shade, flexible tempi, pianist has delightful refined sensibilities, & Conductor & players all created a wonderful performance. Actually as a composer myself - { just a tiny nitty pick } the cello's seemed a trifle biting in places { con sord' ? } ) but still, a very good concert,
10 years passed but I must say thank you too 'AntPDC' for introducing this masterpiece from your channel. My son won first place with Finzi's clarinet piece so I never knew Finzy made so many wonderful pieces. :)
A marvellous performance indeed ! Very sensitive playing from the pianist, at least as good as Donohoe's playing on the Naxos. The orchestra are pretty good for amateurs though not as sumptuous as the Northern Sinfonia. The only thing I liked a bit less here is the rather detached playing of the closing dirge. It's a valid choice maybe but I find the coda more appealing in the Naxos version. It's a minor niggle though, this is great music making. with complete empathy.
One of the most underrated composers. He is a joy to listen to. Sadly he died so young.

This cannot be improved upon. I love Finzi's music and sensibilities.
Finzi's music fills me with hope and peace.
I have ony just discovered the music of Finzi. What a lot I have been missing. Amazing, wonderful, breathtaking music. Thank you.

Very, very nice.
Lovely, fitting rubato too. I wonder how Ms Aki Fukaya realised the idiom so well.

@izdigruvo Oh, sorry - the eighteenth century (C18). I was referring to the Baroque Period. Best wishes. My apologies for the abbreviation.
