    I would think most people would've gone the other way. Lugs to wire wheels

    Just a quick tip, drill a hole through the center of a hub hut and use a slide hammer. i am getting ready to do this next month and will try to remember to shoot some video and post it.

    You are right, of course. New seals and even new bearings would be a good idea. Note that the race for the outer bearing (of the fronts) came from the EXISTING bearing - and therefore, potentially, wont even match the bearing shell in the replacement hub. I half expected there to be some bearing trouble - but the car drives just fine. If I need to replace the bearings in the future then I'll video that too:)

    For the purposes of removing the hub stuck on the axle splines I assume. Good idea! - especially if you just have the 8 sided main hub nut without the 'wings' (like I have on my other mgb). Please video your job to make it clear how to do this extraction technique. If you reply to this message when done and I'll link to your work.

    You are driving the nut on instead of off??? What is it left or right to take off??

    • @mikeatyouttube
      @mikeatyouttube  5 лет назад

      On the left side of the car the hub nuts have left hand thread. So the central nuts are clockwise to loosen. I think if they weren't left hand thread, the nuts will loosen while driving.

      Sorry, the RIGHT hand side of the car has LEFT hand thread.

      I think a lot of people get confused when someone says right or left so i always say drivers side or passenger side but with the MG depending on where it is USA or Europe i suppose would make a problem for even left or right. I always in the USA assume the driver's side is the left side but looking toward the front it would be right side.

    will this work on a 64 MG midget

      A similar technique would probably work on the Midget. Don't know for sure but the Midgets and the Bs are very similar.

    I want to put these knock offs on my 63 VW Bus anyway, you think I can make it work???

      woah! The chances that a conversion made for an old British car working on an even older German car are pretty slim. Suggest you chat to the VW community. The VW Bus people are fanatic - they will definitely have some information for you.

    what was the 4 bolt hubs off of?

    • @mikeatyouttube
      @mikeatyouttube  9 лет назад +1

      510Redneck As far as I recall they were off another MG. They were bought through the buy and sell section of the MGExperience website/user group. The wheels and hubs taken off were either sold the same way or through craigslist.

      mikeatyouttube Thank you for your reply, I have been on that site a good bit lately as I'm technically new to the MG game even though I have owned a few of them for many years now (just never had the time to monkey with them).
      With that being said though, I'm currently in the process of fixing up a 4/76 Midget for some relatives of mine and they had a request to remove the spindled wire wheels it currently has in place for a set of 4 lug hubs with regular wheels and I really have no idea of the best way of going about it to full fill their request even after gobs of research the last few nights on a bunch of different sites. I have the mechanical ability.. garage (with lift).. tools etc. to complete the task, just not the knowledge of what works with what the first time around in order to source the parts to do so, which leaves me stalled at the moment unfortunately. lol
      I have heard a lot of chatter all over the place with everyone showing their different 2 cents worth-opinions in on the matter of MG's (which makes it confusing for me) but you are really the only one literally I have seen do it as of yet, even though its on a MBG GT (thank you for sharing).

      Yep, just a normal bolt on hub from a 1967 GT, or 68-80 MGB Roadster, or GT. So, any MGB with the tube axle housing, earlier banjo rear housing cars requires an entire axle housing swap. I also did this swap to a 67 GT.

      @@hapfp1 do you know if I can use the hubs off a 74 mg midget for a swap to steel wheels? I have a 67 MGB gt with wire wheels. The 74 mg midget has steel wheels and disc brakes. I was hoping I could get the hubs and discs to use for the 67.

    You downgraded bro. I want to convert my 4 lug to wire wheel for looks!

    • @mikeatyouttube
      @mikeatyouttube  3 года назад +1

      A few people have said that. Various reasons for doing this conversion : I converted this car (a friend's) to battery electric drive so he could use it on his daily commute - with the extra power he wanted non-splined wheels. Converting to 4 bolt allowed for installing disc brakes on the back. He had a greater choice of tires and he didn't have to use innertubes. It all seemed fairly sensible at the time. The car had already been converted to an automatic with a Ford engine when he bought it - and he got a pile of money (about 20% of the price he paid for the car) when he sold the wire wheels.

      Moss Motors has a conversion kit to do exactly that. I’ve seen it before in their MGB catalog. It’s not inexpensive, but it is doable.

    One of the best mods ever. Those wire wheels are awful.

      But they look way cooler. I never had problems on my MGB or Austin Healey!
