Yes, you are privileged and middle class. Yes, you live in a completely different environment to me. Yes, the topics of some of your discussions are irrelevant to me because your experiences are beyond my compass. That said, I do so enjoy Chris Cooper's wit(I laugh out loud), Manish's natural charm, Ed's amusing anecdotes, Neil's blunt humour and that Harris bloke(whoever he is) isn't too bad either. Keep them coming gentlemen. This is one of the few podcasts I regularly watch/listen to and always enjoy. Thanks...
All true but it’s sad they all become typical British hypocrites when the best driver the motorsport world has seen is discussed
You're very judgemental aren't you? Take a breath. I would suggest it's not Max's driving ability they question. That speaks for itself. It's his personality, and the manner in which he acquired his first world championship. Arrogance is not an attractive characteristic to many of us...@@yerrie1908
@@yerrie1908they almost never talk about verstappen. Grow up
It's a little bit like listening to a group of estate agents talk about how great high house prices are.
@@napalmhotdog4365 And when they do they need to mention that they don’t like someone they never met
I can’t remember the last time Chris C was sober doing one of these 😂
Collecting Addicts Bingo:
Track limits,
Ferrari 468,
CC discussed it with his sons,
Luca di Montezemolo,
Orthopaedic surgeon,
MP has only owned one car (bonus if he mentions what it was),
NC “I’ve owned one”,
Probably loads I’ve missed; and adding whenever Neil mentions his dyslexia, which I also have, seems cruel. But then again bingo is brutal…
Please add…
That is just the 'most beautiful' bingo list I've ever read!
Best car for _______? NC: Porsche.
NC: “It’s all about ___”
CC: “My girlfriend Facility”
MP: “Lamborghini Countach”
MP: Senna
Bloody brilliant mate. I may add the following:
"I've got more than one"
"275"
"Green/blue with tan"
"S63 Coupe"
"Late for dinner"
"C***"
Neil has changed his name to Emma. Good on him. We stand with you Neil. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thats a rough looking Emma

Lads don't apologise for being privileged (middel class), this is why we listen. More 599 GTO stories from Neil please, and questions like who has drank the most bottles of Petrus would be much appreciated. Keep up the good work 👏
^THIS
100% though please have a go at a hypothetical car buying question with a budget
My favourite racing image is of 2 917's in Spa clipping the curbs and hitting the cones flying of in the distance while a marshall with the image of a bird on its back is just casually standing 2 meters from that corner.
You lads have Done it! Proper name, proper people with proper opinions. I'm addicted
Here we go. Friday, Im in my garage working on my vintage motorcycle and boys are on. Best podcast .... in the world 😊
Tipsy Chris: Doesn’t everyone do that? 🧐
Manish: No! 😂
Tipsy Chris: Is it just me? 🧐
Manish: Yes! 😂
This podcast is brilliant!
As an owner of a 1995 C36 AMG, I genuinely loved the "seat adjustment button" segment. There's a very simple baseline pleasure one receives when operating these particular switches. Bravo gents 👏🏻
Two of my favourite motorsports photos are Mansell giving Senna the taxi at Silverstone in 1991, and Senna looking confused at Mika Hakkinen's data to see where he had gone faster.
Haha, I missed the beginning of Manish's recounting of the Spa race, but I recognised exactly what he was talking about because I was at that race, watching it all unfold!! Amazing how sometimes everything just clicks and one moment can encapsulate and represent so many stories of so many people as sort of a snapshot.
Watching this is pure joy each week! Hysterical, informative, entertaining and such a simple formula but you just have the right five components to make it work. Best podcast out there and frankly my favourite go to on RUclips. I could listen to you talk about any topic. Plus actually learnt a lot about a lot of topics. Please keep going 👍👍.
The Mk2 Escort in the photo is Frank Kelly and the Escort is called Baby Blue. He is legendary when it comes to sideways entertainment
Great episode lads…. On the point of Chris’s choice of motorsport image… That is Frank Kelly from County Tyrone N Ireland, the rally team and the car are pretty legendary. Many clips can be found on RUclips of there antics including those at Rallylegend.
I did my first trackday as a 22 year old chap last winter, I’ve been lucky to do some karting as a kid and consider myself a relatively skilled driver but even I found the trackday extremely intimidating. I went in my £900 116hp 2005 Mini Cooper with 120k miles on £30 a corner road tyres and it was bloody hilarious! I think the key for me to enjoying my trackday was going in a regular car, knowing that even if I was shit, no one could take the mick whereas if I turned up in a gt3 I think there would have been a feeling of needing to be fast because of the capability of the equipment. Thanks for the podcast fellas!
Agreed. Best track experience I've had is in my "track-tool" Fiesta St150. Worst is in an uninsured gt4rs. And knowing that the front fenders cost 12k each on the rs, it wouldn't probably have been much more fun even if it was insured. Scary thing on a track with 20 other fast cars
whenever cooper drinks put up a sign saying quiet time whenever he's ranting ;)
Thanks for letting us into your successful and obviously privileged life, through that success, into a world I would not otherwise have sight of; like the banter to.
Chris Cooper shouting "I got ackermann I got ackermann" is the greatest moment in podcasting to date.
Best image: either or both airborne at the Nurburgring. The BMW 3.0 CSL Castrol "Batmobile" (Hans Stuck) in 1974 and/or the Chaparral 2F in 1967 (Phil Hill).
Awesome. Here we go. The five guys Friday morning are made for. This is the best podcast out there. Simple.
Its like a livestream from guys Pub talks! Gets better and better!
First image in motorsport that came to my head was when Nigel Mansell’s tyre blew in the “ Canon” car. As my mother was the dealer executive for fax machines in Scotland HQ and acquired the correct red canon baseball cap so I was watching avidly with said cap on in my childhood.
One of the greatest motorsport photos is the Castrol Celica on the Safari rally. Either ploughing through the muddy waterhole or all four wheels off the ground with Mt Kilimanjaro as a backdrop
Neil.... that's my idea of heaven in my favourite modern supercar of all time. Glorious.
We appreciate that you're aware that you're well off, but that you all came from somewhere, and that's what brings y'all more relatable to the common man
Guys, you have got to keep doing this, you're brilliant. I look forward to this every Friday as does now my wife. More than any programme that's been on the TV. If people don't like it, they can **** ** stop watching.
these podcasts just keep getting better and better. Great job lads. Also, top song choice Ed.
Frank Kelly's Baby Blue MK2 Escort 49:09👍
I’m pretty sure that low flying escort is ‘Baby Blue’ Frank Kelly about 4 years ago. These days co-driven by his daughter Lauren
Pretty sure that photo of the Mk2 escort is Frank Kelly, pretty well known for absolutly sending it.
My dog kept barking when Chris Cooper was talking, I think it was Chris's shirt!
As a Trinidadian, Land Cruiser 70 series 4 door wagon or pickup. 33” tyres, ARB suspension. For the second, Grp 4 MKII or MKI escort. As bad as some of the roads are, there are those that would put a smile on your face.
Thanks for the kind words Emma. Aren't we all still finding our way a bit.
This was a great episode and made me home sick as I can confirm all of your choices for a Tobago cars where spot on. And I’d put money on the fact that Manish fell in love with Speyside. That’s the cultural side that makes you keep coming back
I remember the club 89 track days. You could pay £50 for 2 x 3 lap passenger rides in one of the clubs own cars. Driven by a touring car driver. I did one at Donington Park, some rich fellas turned up with an F40, and had hired Tim Sugden to show them how to drive it. They fixed a metal plate, to reduce the exhaust noise, so that they could get around the noise limits. After about 5 laps the number plate melted and the wiring loom in the engine bay caught fire!
Greatest podcast currently out. Remember, never be ashamed to be middle class or privileged. Nobody should be ashamed of who they are.
This podcast is getting more and more tipsier, certainly got that Friday feeling 😄
Great episode look forward to this every week and now into the 30's, Love the new intro gents/Ed smashed it 😎💪
28:57 I've driven across Europe many times and I drove taxi when I was a student (Norther Europe, so in a new E-Class), what helps for getting tired: take a nap or just close your eyes for a minimum of about 8-12 minutes, maximum is about 15-18 minutes. Set an alarm for 15 minutes, close your eyes and let your eyes rest or take a nap for 15 minutes. It will transform you for at least half an hour. Nothing else will work.
This podcast always makes my week. Brilliant
Happy Friday!! Love sitting down with you guys at the end of the week:)
This made me think about what car I'd do 1000miles in and despite owning probably more statement making cars, honestly the two most enjoyable long drives I remember are in my at the time brand new Mk5 R32 golf (great seats, sound and headlights) and a 944 turbo (best seats ever, pop up headlights and riding that wave of old school boost are the stand out feelings)
2 minutes into the podcast & I was hooked. Fantastic episode guys.
Harris is bang on about drivers who need to step up and start racing rather than just continually doing track days. 100%!
Beano’s arrived. It must be Friday.
The seat button adjuster feature caught my interest. If ever there was a question. “Which buttons would be better replaced and put on a screen in the car”. It’s the seat buttons which have to be operated without looking at them, and are often a complete mystery to many car owners throughout their ownership. Porsche even have 18 way adjusters BTW. Thanks as usual guys.
Absolutely excellent guys, keep’ em coming👍
The trackday question is possibly one of the best sections of any CA podcast yet.
Happy to get rained off today so I could watch this
Just got back from a curry night out with some mates, it's 11 at night...What a good time to start listening/watching the Addicts podcast and dive into a Chris Copper monologue of seat adjustment buttons :D
Favourite motorsport image has to be Sir Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill both airborne at the 1966 German Grand Prix.
Ford Transit Custom Sport…fresh as a daisy when you get out. Did the E42/A60 south last week with the whole length at 3 figures. Room in the back for toys too!
keeps getting better this podcast
Quality! Please remain as middle class as you like! You mentioned a fun day without the intimidation of a track day. North Weald Airfield near the M25/M11 intersection do Action Days. They are a hoot. I have no affiliation with the company other than I've done a few of their days. Worth checking them out. I assume there are a number of these types of Action days around the country, usually on airfields.
Do you know how to book these? I can't find reference to them witha google search.
Best podcast on the net!
Great new into! Hope it stays 😊
That rally driver in the blue escort is frank kelly incredible driver
The highlight of my week. Look forward to every Friday... Last couple of weeks have been hilarious. Kudos to Ed, whatever has happened to him, he has really stepped up and found his place/role in the last two weeks! 😂. Brilliant content, lads. Keep it coming.
Firsties hells yeah love this podcast, always look forward to these gents telling stories of the automotive culture.
Neil always has such a vibe going. Love it
Friday - Collecting Cars podcast and self awareness of the socioeconomic nature of my favourite RUclips content....
Car talk and cocktails, cheers!
Ooo my dad has a FX 4. It actually has the 10 speed gearbox and it uses the single turbo 2.0 diesel engine. But the new Ranger has also just launched.
Hello from cape town South Africa all.
Love the podcast you guys are amazing, and I've been watching all the podcasts since about 2016.
For me my favorite Motorsport picture is Gilles Villeneuve sideways in his Ferrari. Just magic.
In stitches again. Chris Cooper is obviously enjoying his cornish sherberts 😂! Really looking forward to Neal's forthcoming track day with his two mentors on Sept 11th......would it be possible to video it as a separate item on you tube?
Thanks for using my newly acquired Pajero Evo in the thumbnail for this Podcast Episode. The truck has been relocated from Sydney AU to Oregon USA where it will be enjoyed and used properly. As to Mr Clifford's comment about them being €14,000 from here to eternity, I'd have to disagree. The Pajero EVO finds itself in the rare trifecta of the collector car market ticking all the boxes... JDM 90's, Homologation Special and a car of which only 2693 were ever produced. (Only 92 were produced in red!) The Pajero Evolution shot up in value the second they became eligible for U.S. importation for good reason and they will never look back in my opinion. I count myself lucky to have landed one.
Welcome back Emma. We love you😊
Agree with the Mazda B2000.
I have the Australian version, Ford Courier 2.6.
Has 395,000km on it.
Unstoppable, slow, thirsty.
Replaced clutch and clutch cylinders at about 320,000km and that’s it.
Thank you gentlemen for another great fun episode. I'd like to tell you how I listened to it, because I think it's a story you may relate to.
I had driven to Monterey Car Week from LA in my '87 Esprit turbo. You can never be 100% confident about arriving, but my philosophy has always been give it a go and there's not much that can't be sorted out with Triple A and a credit card.
But that was without planning for the once in 80 year hurricane that just made its way up the Mexican coast to California. Leaving Monterey after dinner last night I planned to make it back before the storm reached LA. Just an hour in, it looked like a big mistake. A huge electric storm lit up the sky for miles around in front of me. I really thought I had messed up and was driving into the eye of the storm in the dark in an Esprit.
That's when I reached for five friendly voices cracking jokes and reminiscing about cars and life. It was a great comfort in the cosy cabin and as luck would have it, my storm was a local one and not the main event. I have so much respect for the Esprit getting me home without assistance and thanks for the company.
Manish, as a local from Trinidad, you should see one white 997 GT2, a 992 GT2 RS, McLaren 570s and a Ferrari F12 roaming around by a very rich local.
I used to do around five or six, Track Days each year but sold my Biposto last year so-called time out. I As said found over the years a big change in drivers and cars, gone were the days of cheaper cars, you never saw GT3s M3/2 ect. I found I did half a track looking in my rear mirror, plus the prices have shot up. But had some Great times and fond memories !!
I take my 15 year old c320d estate on goodwood track days, 224 horse power of fury! very good fun😂😂.. Don't think I would ever be brave enough to do an open pit lane day though...
Another excellent cast guys, don't ever change! 👍
Hyundai N cars have 5 years warranty inc non competitive track days! So bought a i20N for the wife and school run and fun. She loves it and it does what it needs! Top gear car of the year 2021 I believe!
Gentlemen, living up their lives. 😄❤
Gooood morning, it's Friyayyyyy!
I drove from Melbourne to Exmouth in Western Australia and back to see the eclipse last April - 10,000Km in 13 days (which includes 3 nights camping in Carnarvon and 2 nearer Exmouth). Was a few solid days to cross and recross the Nullarbor - with the fear of kangaroos jumping out at dawn or dusk (with the roadkill as warnings during the day). I did it in a Subaru Outback Touring - it was superb for it - good for camping, good for the dusty off roads, comfortable and solid. Sound system is bloody awesome as standard too
Was waiting for the Barbados reference. Another great episode boys. The rum and cokes are waiting for you when you arrive here 😅
I love track days, when I'm the only one on track haha. Love looking at all the cars and the social side but then hate what some people become on track haha.
Sign me up to Edward’s fast road day. Sounds great!
In the the late 90’s Donington used to do Tuesday nights from 4.30 till dark and often after £80 mostly standard road cars……packed, many of those guys and girls went onto racing successful.
Happy memories from early 90s Cosworth Owners Club track days at Castle Coombe. Thankfully in the dry! All we talked about was what mods we had done and how many bhp they were supposed to deliver. #goodolddays
Lovely Chimis Neil
An eventful night 🤧 Had a few of them✌️
One thing the track day that you will have you need to stream it live 😂😂😂❤❤
Love the new intro!
And haters gon hate.
The legend Frank Kelly
Madrid to Calais, Maserati QP5, about 13 hours and arrived relaxed to a decent supper
I have done the formula Fords at Silverstone too - excellent value, you get 15 laps plus 3 laps driving behind an instructor, overtaking allowed plus you’re not driving your own car 😉
Mercedes electric seat design....still genius, still unsurpassed.
As soon as you described the Tobago brief, the position of the house immediately put me in mind of the Thomas Crown affair (mark 2). Therefore my two cars would be (obviously the Thomas Crown Mustang and the 6 wheel Wrangler - as in the film.
There is more than one of those Mustangs by the way. Richard Rawlings of the Gas Monkey Garage built two exact replicas....beautiful
we did a 48 h in a car, for a magazine... slept a little, drove across swiss alps most of the time... in a 991.1 turbo S... EPIC
I've never done a track day in a car but I've done a couple on a bike: Chris Harris' take (19:56 -->) about sums up my (limited) experience. There's always some knobber or three who want to put the wind up the newbies and my opinion about these types is "if you think you're that good, why don't you sod off and try your hand at racing?". Track days are supposed to be an enjoyable and exploratory outing for all.
Yeah he was bang on with that. I’ve done a fair few motorbike trackdays and a little bit of racing a few years ago. It got to the point with both where I just squirrelled myself away to the quietest corner of the paddock. The egos would always spoiled the day before it had even started.
Gents, still love it and always look forward to listening in to the next instalment. But Mr Cooper you're slurring again, you might benefit postponing getting on the sauce for an hour or so longer next time 😂.
Oh yes S&G !
For me, my favourite motorsport image is the Mercedes CLR going airborne at Spa
Loving the revamp of; Last of the Summer wine, a starter for all young fogies!
Are T-shirts or merchandise available for the Grumpy Old Mans Wheel Tappers and shunters club!
Asking for an elderly rel!
I’m gonna be late for work AGAIN on a Friday 😂
Neil is a legend. Changes glasses mid podcast.
Gents thanks for the 31st Friday for us addictive Car types. You have made the closets thing to an actual car pub. CarPublicans a place to share your car stories n affairs!
I'm spewing into my lady petrol. The Thomas Crown Mustang was my choice!! For the practical car, however, I would've gone Panda 4x4 with a flatbed trailer. Job done!
I have photos of my late father at a track day at Silverstone in his '79 Esprit S2 surrounded by Porsche 911 930's, Lancia Stratos, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Ferrari 308 GTB... must have been 1980. It was Club * (something).
Frank Kelly in Baby Blue, bit of an exhibitionist at Rally Legends in Italy
