- "City Hunter," the hugely popular comic that has sold over 50 million copies and created a sensation, finally gets a live-action adaptation made in Japan! This notorious, cool-headed yet excitable protagonist descends upon modern-day Shinjuku, Tokyo.
Ryo Saeba is a "sweeper" based in Shinjuku, Tokyo who cleans up trouble in the gritty underworld. Although he's an unparalleled playboy who struggles to keep his cool around beautiful women, when he accepts a request, he carries it out with crack marksmanship, impressive athletic abilities and a calm composure. The unflappable, foolish and flirtatious Ryo is played by Ryohei Suzuki, while the heroine Kaori Makimura is played by Misato Morita. Ryo's partner Hideyuki Makimura is played by Masanobu Ando, and Saeko Nogami, a beautiful detective who has a complicated relationship with Ryo, is played by Fumino Kimura.

it's finally time to have a proper Japanese adaptation of City Hunter set in Japan, after we had Hong Kong, Korean and French adaptations. The French one was the most faithful and best adaptation so far. And using a variation of the iconic theme song Get Wild is a wise choice. Please let this movie be good.
The French one was quite okay because City Hunter is quite famous in France. Kids from the 80's grew up with it.

They kept it 100 and respected the source. Amazing.
They actually did it. They successfully adapted City Hunter. The French version was funny and did a lot of things right, but watching the Netflix version I no longer can picture anyone else playing Ryo Saeba besides Ryohei Suzuki. He IS Ryo Saeba. Also, the action in this version is miles ahead of any other adaptation. The hand-to-hand combat choregraphy was crisp and hard-hitting, and the gunfights were pretty innovative. The Netflix version is a labor of love and it really showed.
EDIT: Just finished watching it for the third time, and the rooftop scene with Ryo and Kaori is the biggest reason why I think this adaptation worked so well. Beyond the mokkori jokes and the stylish action sequences, the filmmakers understood the characters and they managed to capture the heart and soul of City Hunter. And that is why I love this film so much.
I like most of the adaptation made.. there funny one and serious one .. french is hilariously funny to watch.. but I really like this Japanese actor that portrait as Ryo... It just suit him

Have you watched Jackie Chan version? It's was straight out of manga adaptation with better comedy and action. Something about Japanese actors are so bad, specially their screaming, everything feels like little bit cringe.
Hearing "Get Wild" again brings me back to my childhood. Don't screw this up like what you did to Bebop, Netflix!

FANTASTIC! Ryohei Suzuki even mimics Akira Kamiya's speech pattern for Ryo! (And sometimes he even sounds like Kamiya!)
They got the mokkori, the blue blazer and even the crow!

I love how Makimura and Kaori will say same 'You never had a plan A' to Ryo... I guess just like everytime else, Japan has did a wonderful job again... They adapted the movie properly with all those details... City hunter is more than action... It tells about unconditional love, protective nature of men towards their beloved, brother sister bond and many thing❤

City Hunter is one of the legendary popular manga and people's expectations are very high, but Bravo to Ryohei Suzuki who played the character of Saeba, and Netflix did a great job! This was so worth seeing that I wanted to see it in the theater.

I was sad that Umibozu wasn't in the movie, but to be fair, where would they have fit him into the story? If they make a sequel they will probably do a story dedicated to Umibozu and Miki :)

As a hardcore fan of Tsukasa Hōjō sensei's original City Hunter for more than 3 decades out of 4 of my life, I was very sceptical and worried at first , fearing that this would be another big mess. but after watching the movie, I was amazed by Ryohei san's role playing. He incarnated Ryo Saeba to the perfection. Also Misato Morita played wonderfully Kaori. I loved the movie's plot and never get bored at anytime.The film is without doubt the best live action movie made for City Hunter to this day. ARIGATŌ GOZAIMASU Yūichi Satō for respecting the spirit of Tsukasa Hōjō sensei's masterwork. I definitely want this team to do a sequel asap and please keeping the same spirit.

OMGGGGOOODDD my favorite manga and anime now a live action!!! After 30 years?!
There were 5 other live action adaptations before this one, two films from Hong Kong where one of them starred Jackie Chan, a K-Drama Series in name only, a J-Drama Series Adaptation of the Spin-Off "Angel Heart", and a 2018 French Adaptation under the title, "Nicky Larson et le parfum de Cupidon" (Nicky Larson and Cupid's Heart), which I strongly recommend watching along with the Jackie Chan version.
@@chrispetesch9245 I saw the Jackie Chan version, but it was more slapstick comedy. I remember the Street Fighter scene. But I don't consider it as a proper City Hunter live action.

Since the Japanese were the one who mase city hunter anime and all, all those years, i was very eager to see the Japanese themselves made a live action of City Hunter. And they really did it now and it is very soothing to see that the live action is the same as the comic.
the french adaptation will always have a special place in my heart, hopefully this one too

Oh my god, this movie was totally amazing. Ryohei Suzuki, he did it. He is one of the biggest fun of city hunter, and he was eager to acting the Ryo Saeba for a long time. It was awesome. I can’t fell asleep because I already become city hunter- sick. I hope I could watch 2nd episode soon.

@@Ty_DjalI feel, comparison-wise, City Hunter (1993) is more closer to the goofy nature of the anime and this adaptations takes elements of both the anime and manga, but is largely based on the manga.
@@_PuppetMaster86 Yeah that's not true at all, both the manga and the anime had many jokes with the only difference being the sexual tone of the jokes because the anime was self-censored to not do so many mokkori jokes nor depicted Ryo's huge canon between his crotch area, whereas the manga will go all out on that, here Ryo wearing that goofy horse head that extends from his crotch area is a very good nod to that joke while keeping it realistic cos no person in RL can have such a tent. And Jackie Chan's movie may be an entertaining Jackie Chan movie but is entirely disrespectful to the IP like Dragon Ball Evolution is I don't know why people still trying to hold it up as something worth comparing to.

Today I watched this movie out of recommendation by Netflix. Amazed by Japnese film making style, cinematography work, stunt sequences and emotions. Excellent and worth watching! I'm excited and going to explore more of japnese movies.

Since most of the comic adaptations remake is bad, Saint Saya, Power Ranger, Dragon ball,,,,, none of them are good
The gun fight, Casting, the story, the chronography are all amazing in this city Hunter adaptation
The only comment I have is Saeko is not Hot enough(not showing enough legs), Ryo needs to collect all the debt from her and missing the 100Ton hammer 😂😂
But I would watch this again and I do hope Netflix is willing to push City Hunter II and III with the same team,,,better yet, add the scene Ryo got rolled into a bed sushi roll and tossed him out the balcony LOL,,,,that will be hilarious 😂😂😂😂
