I stopped playing the piano ever since covid started. I used to hate practicing because i didn't want anyone to hear me play and mess up but after hearing what Brett said I realised that it doesn't matter what others think and I should go for it. It might take a long time but I will eventually improve :) ...so... I guess I'll go practice

all jokes aside, I really love how much Brett and Eddy talk about how much dedication to playing an instrument can really pay off. Brett's comment about how you don't realize how good you actually play after 10 years is so true! I think that's one of the great joys of playing an instrument - it really is such a long game but being able to look back after years and years of work and finally see (and hear!) progress in your playing is so special and it's why I continue to play after so long :)
A friend of mine is videoing my progress every month... and I always repeat a piece from the previous month so you can see/hear the improvement. It's early days... but in 10 years from now.....???!!!
Not just years. Even month. I startet learning the bagpipes 10 month ago and i am a world better now at it. I can play with all drones open and 5 Songs consitanty. I still mess up. But less now. That is of course nothing against my teacher who is more than a few Worlds better. But i hopefully get there one day
It seriously takes 10 years for you to even hear progress in how well you play? How is that at all encouraging?

@@yannanhuang6510 I have simply piano, and I’ve been brushing through the courses fairly fast (I had a crappy teacher for three year from when I was 6, so I know the very basics). I would say simply piano does teach you, but I wanna quit as soon as my paid thingy gets over (which is a year, so I think fair enough for the price and what I’m learning). don’t get me wrong, it’s fun and all, but I feel like I need memories and sentiments and an app isn’t gonna give me that once-in-a-lifetime-experience. so what I’d basically say is that the app is good just to have some temporary fun after your lessons and to practice, but I wouldn’t recommend it for full-on training. human interaction is necessary.

Love the conclusion of the video. It's easy to think Twoset brings us anxiety, frustration about being a musician, but in fact, they only teach us how to appreciate it despite the pain and the difficulties.
Yes we will cry, yes we will work so much hard but in the end, we will all become good musicians because there is not secret. There is no "musical borned geniuses" and no "30 day secret program", there is only practice and determination.
So keep practicing guys, we can make it!

Theoretically you can be trained to play something on a violin in a month if you have *_in combination:_*
1) Perfect pitch, to hear music in the most precise way;
2) Eidetic memory, to always remember what you've learned;
3) Ideal kinesthetic memory, to lessen amount of mistakes in motions;
4) An idiot teacher, who will "train" such a budding genius instead of genuinely teaching them.
But that will only turn you into a "playing apparatus", not a musician.
Great, I only need a teacher then
The term “apparatus” tho, damn 🙌🏻

Website: Has 3 30 day programs
Eddy: "That's 120 days!!!"
Me: Pretty sure that's 90 days, Eddy.......
They read off 3 programs, but there are 4 - they're essentially beginner, intermediate, advanced, and play by ear
Started teaching myself piano in August of last year. I haven't learned any new pieces other than the 3 I started with, can't play those completely all the way through. However, my technique has improved, my finger strength, hand independence, and overall comfort with the instrument has come a long way. So yeah, maybe nobody is going to be impressed by Moonlight Sonata's 1st mvt, or Fur Elise, but I'm having a great time practicing and hearing the small little improvements I make each day. Screw the "git gud fast" schemes.
Nice! Keep the spirit! Regardless of the piece, to play beautifully, with musicality and emotions is difficult. If you know how to express the feelings and present the progressions in the music, you will not fail to amaze people even if the piece is overplayed. Enjoy your exploration in practices =]
how do you teach YOURSELF? that sounds hard.
@@irlbocchi It's not, honestly. It does require a lot of patience and discipline. You have to make yourself do it, even though it's gonna be frustrating and you won't notice improvements for a while. I slog through warmups like scales and arpeggios, chord progressions. Then I practice the pieces I'm working on. Some days I work on sight reading pieces I haven't played. Some days I ear train by trying to play a very basic Melody from a song I know. And every time I practice, I do a lot of improv. This helps me work on syncopation and technique, because I want to improve so I can play these ideas floating around in my head. I'll also improv on the motif of pieces that I play. Once you accept that you won't be a virtuoso anytime soon, you can really begin to appreciate and enjoy the immense depth and complexity the instrument as well as classical music holds.
@@greyalice Wow! I could never do that. I'm impatient. I play the cello. Random question: Do you have perfect pitch?
@@irlbocchi certainly not, but pretty good relative pitch.
...impress a partner....
*cries in single musician*
Oh god it’s even worse with Guitar. All of these companies are like, “hey, wanna play guitar professionally in literally a week? Screw practice, buy this thing!”
Oddly enough, there's a well-known guitar book from the 1950s, 'Play in a Day' by Bert Weedon. But the only thing wrong with that book is the title.
@@cliptych yes he did change the title to play everyday it can take months just to play three chords cleanly
So what would you recommend for learning? I've been following Justin Guitar, and he's cool with taking time, I'm just wondering what else should I practice besides chords as a complete beginner, because I find chords insanely boring
@@skillvendor3905 Find a scale that fits the chords you've learned, then you can practise improvising and writing melodies. E.g. if you know C, F and G, the C minor pentatonic scale would allow you to play a lot of bluesy rock.
@@cliptych Yeah, I want to know something about scales. I'm sorry that this question sounds beyond stupid but, how do you actually play scales? Pick random notes from a scale or do they have an order? I know that question may have been confusing, it's just that whenever I see scales I see people playing them fully, how exactly do you improvise from a scale?
I just started taking (viola) lessons again after 12 years, and you can actually accomplish a lot in 30 days when you actually invest in a teacher, set realistic goals, and put in consistent practice (not even a lot - I can only fit in 30 mins after work each day). It's been officially one month since I started, and I actually left my lesson smiling (never happened as a teenager) because I could feel the improvement and the results of my work. Now that I'm just doing it for myself (no auditions, recitals, parent expectations), it actually does boost my self-esteem to have something to work towards and to be able to achieve what I set out to do!
As a collegiate musician, that website makes me angry. I have been playing music for almost 14 years and my current one for the 10th year as of this year. It is misleading and insults many musicians who spend literal decades perfecting their performance on their instrument.

You could make one.
Unfortunately I don't know any sorry
For the people that would really love to learn cello or viola (kidding) but they are 'too old' and think they have no chance to ever be good at it because they didn't start from a young age:
I've played the cello for one year from my 8th till 9th and due to sickness had to stop. I picked it up again when I was about 20. I am now trying towards being a soloist and am working hard to try to get into a conservatorium. I've only picked it up again two years ago and even though I'm not a soloist, I am playing in an orchestra and play pieces of Bach and so on.
I'm not trying to suck my own balls and do as if I'm oh so good, I'm only saying this for the people that feel like they could never learn a string instrument when they are older then, I don't know, like 17.
I want to tell those people that they should go for it! It won't be easy, I'm practising more than 2 to 3 hours a day. You have to work harder to get on the same level as your fellow orchestra players, but if you really want to, whatever age you are, just go for it.
My teacher has a student that is 56 and she started a year ago. That's just so powerful that she just decided to play!
I met a lady who started when she was 40 y.o. as a hobby and she played small solo concerts in her 50s. Music making is about connecting with people and give them something that is actually non tangible. I busk a lot and you still have an audience and you still connect to people and you still make them happy. Coming across good classical music in a place you didn't expect has often a bigger impact.
I am a singer and like you had to pause due to illness, so I am much older than others. Many have already given up when they get to my age. They are frustrated and I have still plans for the future. 😊 Keep playing.
Isobella Brett ♥️🌹
Thank you for that, I am almost 19 now and dream of learning the violin. I can't start learning until I get in college, which will probably be next year, so I am really looking forward to starting, but I wasn't sure if I would be able to actually learn it.
Your story was really inspiring, thank you!
Isabella F Ahw thank you for your sweet comment! Just go for it! Like I said, although I did had a few year lessons when I was around 8, I did stop for a while. I started again at 20. Now I’m working towards being a solist and I feel like I am close to being one.
If you really want to learn it, and put in the work, you can get there!
I’m really glad that I could help you a little.
Good luck! ♥️🌹
Thank you, a lot of us need to hear that actually. We often hear about people that started to have parents pushing them and being able to afford expensive music lessons and you can easily feel jealous and too old for it. But it's only a matter of dedication and interest to learn anything.
this was a strangely inspiring video thanks for that little bit at the end of the video :') I'm a nursing student but I've always have had a huge love for music and play the flute and bass for a couple years. Your videos make me feel like randomly taking up a music theory class to learn more about music and so yeah just here to say I'm not a music major but I really appreciate your channel!!

Well you aren't buying anything on Wikipedia, and you shouldn't enter your address, much less your credit card/bank info onto an insecure website still.
If it’s not https don’t do it. It DOES mean they aren’t handling your information appropriately.
Without "https" your details are traveling to the company in plaintext unencrypted - meaning anyone with the right skills (and there are many) can get your info.
