7th overall ahead of wrc cars in a 20 year old car.. ken block had a modern tuned escort this year in donegal and came 110th overall out of 120... McRae man was a genius behind the wheel behind the wheel regardless of the bus he was driving
Ken Block is a showman to be fair. He’s like one of those freestyle footballers that have a bucketload of tricks and flicks, but if you were to put them in the middle of a professional match they’d be clueless.
The fact he finished 7th in a 20yr old car shows A) just how good the Metro 6R4 was and B) that McRae was THE greatest WRC driver there has ever been & ever will be. I had Metro's in the 90's, from the basic City through to the GTi, so I've always loved & had a soft spot for this car. It is just perfection on 4 wheels RIP Colin
The man is imortal because of videos like this, he drives so hard that that 6r4 looked it was begging for mercy, and there's not many if any other than Colin McRae could do that. Absolute legend remembered forever.
"When in doubt ,Flat out" Not only did the man say those words ,he lived by them .A truly inspirational driver and human being. A quite young man but when sat behind the wheel of car he drove like I would imagine Satin himself would drive .Greatly missed
Not sure the 6R4 would be geared to do that sort of speed. Maybe. But I would think they'd be geared lower really.

@@PPC4 Typically the 6r4 like it's brethren would be geared to be able to do 110 to 120 at 9000rpm. That said, they could be geared to go quite a bit over 130 for the right kind of track so while probably not geared for it here 140+mph is easily achievable.
I sat in that Metro when I was 13, it was 2003 to this day it is the best day of my life. My drawing of Colin’s Xsara was used as the front of the regulations in 2003 Colin McRae Stages, I wore Kris Meeks Helmet and it was in a forest just outside Perth, my drawing won me a run with Colin as well that’s how I got a run with Colin in in the D165WRX Metro and it was essentially a brand new car beautiful Car.

Just came here to remind myself of the sound.just watched Colin's car collection with the 2 boys in Scotland. Listen to the start of this video. " the sound of a group B supercar in the donegal hills" metro 6r4 en song. Savage
Very few drivers could ring an international spec 6R4 out to its max over the full distance of a major rally. Mcrae is definitely one of the few. The other person that comes to mind is the late great tony pond who I was fortunate enough to see back in the 80's on a Grizedale stage.
I've watched this 3times over, still can't believe how good Colin was, in a WRC car he'd have won by some hell of a distance given his time in that Metro
Some early-stage with Atlantic cliff style drop-offs, he had a STICKING throttle, which affected his overall time, so he probably would have finished even higher !!
Fair play, that was driving of the highest order, that was almost flat out, on the limit of this famous Group B car. No wonder he won the World Crown, a sad loss to Motorsport.
Seen this car at his house when working there Appleby motorsport sent a crew to ready it for an event Looked and sounded amazing when they worked on it
When He we asked " wIll you be back" and Colin said " I'd say so yea" i was over the moon. I was 9 or 10 at that time so i can;t really remember it terrible well. I saw him twice the whole weekend at the same corner. I rally wished we had followed the rally.
Never got to see Colin doing flat out in person, I'm ashamed to say. I did watch him religiously and he always gave me the giggles the real nervous one "how the fuuk did he do that!" moments and there were many. Legend(s)
I went to a bodyshop today for a job position and saw this very car.. it was great seeing some group b history. The car looked in great condition too 😍😍😍 whoever owns it is one lucky man.
D165 WVX hasn’t done a lot since Colin drove it. The last time it was out on a stage was 2014. Such a pity these cars are not been used as they were intended.
It is a shame I guess. But these things are worth big money now and I kinda understand why it gets very little track use. Was told the owner was taking it out this year for some track use. Either way it was lovely seeing it 😍
I'm writing this in 2020, when 'drifting' is popular with little boys in car parks. Ooh, such a lot of noise and tyre smoke... Yawn. To me, drifting on its own is just pointless messing around by wannabe rally drivers. Marks for style and precision awarded by judges? Bah! You might as well be watching ice skating! The only judge that matters is the stopwatch. Watching Colin here - THIS is drifting. It's essential car control, and it serves a purpose. You drift a car because you're GOING somewhere. On a rally. On a stage. On a wet road. You drift as a means to an end; it's not an end in itself. Just my opinion, of course... ;-)
Just too bad Colin wasn't driving a "proper" B-group car (Audi S1, Peugeot or Lancia S4), with those the ending results could've been something else.. Metro was always a little bit underpowered compared to those cars..

To compare Block to McRae is insulting to the legend.

I witnessed him at this event..it was scary he went through a speed trap at 142 mph on a section of road that was made for horses...
Absolutely ridiculous speed! The courage to do that speed in that car on those roads.... astonishing.
And poor old Nicky was just a passenger who put his lofe in Colin's hands how many times !!
