No 17 year old in Britain could afford the insurance on either of these cars...

Scott Sherman Yeah, when they say young they mean mid 20s.
If you could even get a quote on that Clio you'd be looking at 5K+ on insurance. And there's a fair chance you wouldn't even get a quote to begin with.

I brought a 172 cup when I was younger. had to wait until I was 21 to insure it because it was a hot hatch. cost me £1200 to insure. that was 11 years ago.

Personally, the Clio is by far the car I want, as well as being the one I can afford. Sure, the fiesta ST is a fantastic car, and I would say that it's probably the best hot hatch available currently. But the Clio is just so light and solid, and I would say it's one of, if not the, best hot hatch ever built. Also, the guy from Evo magazine, who has a Zonda, an Integrale Turbo, and an F-Type project 7, amongst many others, also says that his Clio 182 Trophy is the best hot hatch ever made, so I figure he's a good guy to second the opinion of

I've had a 172 for over two years and it has been a joy owning it. Sometimes I'll even find an excuse to just drive it. Also, contrary to belief it has been solid and super reliable. Even at 117k the F4R engine pulls so well all the way up to 7.2k rpm which is basically a VTEC but with more torque, they are used several race cars for a reason. I really can't see myself ever selling it, it's just a brilliant little car.

I once owned a Clio 172 Cup and did 125k miles from new in it including many many trackdays. In my Fiesta ST I've just hit 58k miles from new.
If I had both outside right now I'd still take the Fiesta every single day of the week. On road and track it has all the Clio's good points and none of the bad.
The only thing the ST lacks is the Clio's razor sharp throttle response.

I was paying £1630 a year (at the age of 27 and i'd just past my test) for a 2005 VW Polo 1.4 Sport in yellow. Which was (3 years old at the time). So unless there parents are wealthy, young drivers (17-21) would have no chance owning the Fiesta ST to begin with, then theres the insurance. With either of them at (17-21) you're easily looking at £2-3 grand, if not more.
Edit: Just done two separate insurance quotes via GoCompare for both the Fiesta ST and the Clio 182 RS for a 21 year old
Both were set to £500 excess and 6000 miles a year
    2016 Fiesta ST worth £19,519 was £2690 a year
    2005 Clio 182 RS worth £3,995 was £2470 a year.
Plus it depends on the area you live (im in the Manchester area)

If your 18-21 and have a full time job I see no reason why anyone can't get a decent hot hatch, I tried to stay around the 1.6 mark for insurance but other than that I say go wild, Insurance from 2 years ncb was £900 on the 208 gti and just bought a Abarth 500 which is £750.

(thats when you consider cars with small engines, economy cars basically). the thing is, second hand cars are so expensive because in turkey cars dont go down in value as much as they do in europe, especially in the UK. but here the insurance cost is much lower, so if you owned that clio for five years in the UK, and sold it, it would cost you much higher than doing the same here

When your in the US just buy a C5 corvette, 4th gen camaro, 350z , e36 M3 ,S2000, WRX, Civic SI or a Mustang GT for far less then the ST.

Walker F Performance cars under $20k US? It's likely been through a lot of abuse. Mint condition of the cars on your list are hardly more affordable than the Fiesta ST, on top of not having warranties.

      @watson1381 7 лет назад +1

Henry Liao lmao no it's very easy to get any of these cars I listed under 20k with 50,000 miles on them. Maybe not a WRX because they don't drop in value for some reason

Walker F I got a 2010 Camaro SS 6M with 8k miles for $22k. It was in perfect condition (still smelled new) and was babied. There are tons of cars around that price that are super low mileage and good condition. Plus insurance isn't horrible at all. I'm on my family's plan and it costs $150 dollars a month extra to add me and my car to our plan. That insurers me to drive a 2006 Mercedes E350, 2014 Ford Escape, and 2002 Ford F-150 on top of my car. I couldn't imagine the insurance prices in Europe.

Every wannabe has an ST.. They're not even fast either. Far too many of them try racing my S4 B5 avant, like they even have a chance against 376bhp lol. Prefer the 182 out the two

I have to agree, so many fiesta boy racers thinking they can even beat a bloody 2.0 Rover 45 included with turbo and it was made in 2000... Clio 182 for me, i have seen 182 drivers around my area and they act calm if nothing goes wrong their way but when they accelerate, the stock exhaust sounds nice.

7:40. I was once driving my RenaultSport Clio 172 on a wet B road and noticed something driving enthusiastically in my rear view mirror. It was a very dark morning (4:00 a.m.) and I allowed the car to pass me as I didn't know if it was the police or what. As it was passing I saw it was a BMW M235i. I let it get out of sight and then caught back up with it again! His rear wheel drive car looked twitchy in the wet but my totally standard 2 litre Clio caught up with him easily!

MrWafflez000 I think he meant it like "the stock engine is 1.2-1.4, 2.0 is pretty big in comparison." I completely agree with that because with the car being that small, 2 liters is a big engine more fit for a golf or passat than a clio :)

Just nab a Toyota Starlet easy hoon vehicle and great power ratios with money.
The 182’s especially are getting rarer thus the price increase, but honestly owning a 200 and been in a 182 multiple times.
Unless you wack some good money into most other FWD hatches they can’t do shit on track to a stock Clio. Let alone one with money spent on it!

The ST200 is 212bhp on overboost as it comes with the mountune remap and fords version of the mountune lower air box and second cold air feed.
    The standard ST is 197bhp.
I just had the Mountune 215 kit fitted to my ST and its now 215bhp and feels a lot quicker than standard.
The MP215 is worth every penny for anyone out there with a standard ST wondering about upgrading, £800 on the Mountune website and can be fitted easily in 1 hour or less.
