Thank you for this video. When the wind is so light, you woulnt like to have oars ?🙂

Well, I do have oars but when cruising they are a lot to stow away. I have resolved that now with a unique system that I make over the winter but rowing isn;t really my thing. I'd just motor I think, although the Lugger does row rather well.

My gaff has no wedges and never slips with a halyard hitch so I just lash the halyard another 6-8 inches down to raise my boom. I've had no issue with the sail being a touch higher. In stronger winds I sail without the boom anyway.

Many thanks for the advice. This seems to concur with a couple of other Lugger sailers I know. Yes, in higher winds the boom will probably be taken out anyway.
Love the halyard hitch but I did see a couple. Of Luggers with a simple hole and fig 8 knot on the gaff. It made for a very nice tight fit to the mast so im thinking I may try that for the std position.

Would it be possible to combine a boat with a tent for sailing in the rain? 🤔

Well Jono I htink they call that a Drascombe Coaster!! I think, despite loving this boat a lot, I am at the stage where a cuddy/cabin would be very nice, so maybe the next boat will need something like that!

i used to sail my junk rig against tide down to .5 knots ovg. Below that id fire engine up, bcz i had no steering.

o.5kts, hardly moving at that point I guess. The issue I have with the sailing here, around Anglesey especially is that you need to pass certain areas at certain times. I fyou miss that then you are eitehr waiting for the tide again or it can get dangerous. If you wait for the tide then the weather can change and you miss your window so for me, i'm trying to keep an average up if I can. I keep an eye on the time though and if I have to I just drop the outboard in and motor. I am beginning to realise that trhis is probably the way with a Lugger, unless I can find a way to get her to sail a bit faster!!!
