This theme is more than just a Champion battle theme. It's also: - The last battle theme of the Unova saga. - The last battle theme of the DS period. - The last battle theme of Pokemon's 16-year 2D era. When you think about it all those contexts, it sounds even more legendary.
i saw somebody call the Iris fight a 'love-letter to Dragon types before introducing Fairy types in Gen 6' and to this day I think that is the most accurate way this theme and the battle can be described
Plus with megas now... Aggron would just clap everything in it's field of vision. I use one on Showdown and people don't expect it. It's the definition of a tank.

I think of this theme as the final sendoff to 2D pokémon. It feels so celebratory and nostalgic. It's a great champion battle theme, don't get me wrong, but this-to me at least-just screams "thank you for everything, now let's have one final battle to look back on the series". I guess that's one of the reasons why this sounds so fun. It's supposed to encapsulate the essence of the series. To its core, it's just a bunch of fun child-like adventures. Every time I listen to this theme I get constant flashes to some of my personal favourite moments from gen5 and backwards. Truly a masterpiece of a theme
When I was younger I hated this them because I found it too "funny" and "for kids " compared to something like Cynthia or N and now I find it so fitting and even badass at some point like the part at 0:20 and the one at 1:27 It also has a fast rythm that make me shake my head without controlling it haha
I stopped caring about the series after generation 5 because of complexities like 3D models and many forms. That generation is the boundary for me, so from that point, I focused on other things.
Huh, I never thought of it that way. As a kid, champion battle themes like Cynthia’s and other serious sounding trainers like N’s and Red’s stuck with me more, so this threw me off the first time. Listening to it now, it *does* have that celebratory nostalgic feel.

Either your lucario is totally overleveled or you didn't play the game or even battle her. I can see lucario oneshotting hydreigon, aggron and lapras with close combat because of 120 base power +STAB but a non-stab icepunch on 2x effectiveness definitely isn't gonna cut it for iris. You'd have to crit every time or be MASSIVELY overleveled with it's 75 base power without STAB.
this is the rainbow road of pokemon. not because of the difficulty, but because it marks the end of an era, and the last of the 2d games. this theme feels like a sendoff, shouting thanks to those who listen, and i love it. not only does it encapsulate iris but it expresses the journey here and how we’ve reached the end, at least for now. this song will always hold a special place in my heart.
Probably cause alot of people (myself included) remember using the big bad box legendary for the end game when we were kids (i played pearl so i had Palkia) only for it's rampage to be stopped by Garchomp slapping the fuck outta it with either Dragon Rush or Earthquake. I remember i had to win that fight by baiting out Giga Impact with my HM slave Bibarel so Palkia could come on the recharge and nail it with Ice Beam.

Even if Iris fought Fairy types with her Dragon Pokemon, I'd doubt she'd lose. In the adventures manga, she's an expert in Dragon type Pokemon and knows how to counter their weaknesses very well

sparkmanSP On the first time though, Charizard and Gyarados are only 1x weak to ice (no weakness) and I assume Aerodactyl is not weak too, or is only 2x weak, but either way Lapras sweeps with a water STAB move and ice beam, and thunder.
Sahlos lance is hard if you dont have any ice types. Just powerlevel your pokemon at elite 4 and purposeley lose against him and let him kiss you lvl 100 team
It may be just a coincidence, but i like to think Iris’s champion outfit was foreshadowing fairy type Pokémon, and she had an Aggron to tell you that in the future, Steel types will be their weakness.
Pokemon was definitely planning another typing at the very least since gen five as well as the fact when one gen ends drafting and development for the next gen begins so thats probably likely

Iris is has perfect character development. She starts as weak and afraid but becomes a gym leader. She then pushes herself to become champion and does so. She starts as a forgettable NPC with an axew and after 2 years have passed she becomes champion. She grows as a character. She sees the joy yet intensity in battling and implements it into her theme. This made her in my opinion the best champion of all time.
Iris' theme is just THE BEST. She's also just a phenomenonal character, because she's the most relatable: Iris is just like the protagonist, you, a trainer who worked their hardest to beat the Elite Four and become the champion of the Unova region! Therefore, it feels like you are fighting another trainer with the same ambitions as you, and it's absolutely awesome. I love Iris so much, and this theme represents her perfectly. One of the best characters in Pokémon, and the best champion. Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are phenomenal games, man.

can see why. one dragon dance is it all takes for that thing to outspeed ANYTHING that doesn't have a speed buff. i ended up having to stall out the earthquakes by reviving my mons weak to it because no way in hell was I gonna lose when the battle was getting this fun
The quick 5 seconds between 00:30 and 00:35 might just be the most obsessed I've ever been with any piece of music. It's incredible how much energy it builds in that short time. The battle is now in full swing!

Iris sent out Hydreigon! Player sent out Xerneas! Iris withdrew Hydreigon! Iris sent out Aggron! Xerneas used Moonblast! It's not very effective... The opposing Aggron's Aggronite is reacting to Iris's Key Stone! The opposing Aggron mega evolved into Mega Aggron! The opposing Aggron used Heavy Slam! It's super effective! Xerneas fainted!
But given her outfit and personality, I honestly think it would be better for her to love and have at least 1 fairy type on her team (I call Mega Audino).

@@radarred4529 IMO 6 or 7 out of 10. Not awful but not great either. Even with win streak she had in the past, it still wasn't much as a trainer though she still had some solid skills that made her a candidate to succeed Drayden as gym leader of Opelucid.
Fun fact: going by Pokemon levels, Iris is either the 2nd or 3rd strongest NPC trainer in the entire series. Basically, if you go by "highest levelled pokemon in the party" then Iris comes in 3rd (Level 83 Haxorus), behind Barry (Level 85 starter on his final rematch in Platinum) and Red (Level 88 Pikachu in HGSS). If you rank by the sum of the levels of all the pokemon in her party, she ties for 2nd place with Barry (combined total of 488), behind Red (combined 502 in HGSS, 510 in LGPE).

Cynthia is now first thanks her perfect Garchomp in the 3D versions. As if she wasnt nightmarish enough, all her team now has perfect moveset, perfect IVs, perfect EVs distribution, perfect nature, items held (In the rematch)

Jimmy Chongo Diantha is love. At least, she is more famous than Alder, the worst champion. (I love Unova, it is my favourite region, but Alder is awful, really). Also, she's got a great theme.
People praising Cynthia as the hardest champion only because they haven't played iris in challenge mode. The rematch with iris is easily the hardest match I've played Vs an AI. Every Mon lvl 81 with her haxorus being lvl 83. Hydreigon has perfect coverage with wise glasses to boost special attack, a friggin life orb salamence, an archeops running the amusing flying gem + acrobatics combo, an aggron that if you underestimate will sweep you after an autotomize, a lapras that puts you to sleep with sing and then never misses blizzard, thunder or hydro pump cause it has a zoom lens, and ofc dat sash haxorus. I lost to her twice and had to use an actual strat of tyranitar + excadrill to beat her.
I think that overall (without challenge mode) the diamond/pearl/platinum league is much harder than black/white because the elite 4 and Cynthia are all somewhat challenging whereas the black white elite 4 are a piss take with iris being the only challenge

I love how this theme is less of a "this is gonna be really tough" but it's more of a journey's end type of song. It fits perfectly in black and white 2 and the first time I heard it in game I was actually happy about the end of the game. Where the game before with N's farewell speech got me tearing up. I finally understand why Diantha was so easy! Game Freak wanted to give us an easy battle after fighting Cynthia in Diamond/Pearl, fighting her again in Platinum, fighting Ghetsis in BW, and Iris in B2W2!
I really don't get why Iris gets so much hate. In my opinion, she's one of the better characters plus her team is pretty darn good. In fact, she's the only Champion to ever give me any problems.

I was so surprised when I knew Iris was the champion in Unova area just because she'd been a gym leader in bw. By the way, I used to play the both games,bw and bw2 made in "Japan". She used only "ひらがな" when she spoke in bw, which means she was just a little child. But she mixed "漢字" and "ひらがな" to talk with someone in bw2, two years after bw's world, which means she'd become an adult mentally although she was still at young age ! That's my another surprising experience when I met her in bw2 ! BW2 are such wonderful masterpieces that I've ever played; I really appreciate Junichi Masuda !

Iris in the anime fears Ice types (and not Dragon types since they're mutually weak against each other, and maybe Fairy) Iris in the game has a Lapras, showing how fearless and stronger she is. Result : Anime Iris is pathetic.
@@bobboi3507 Gen 1 anime is a hot mess. Classic, yes, but messy as all getout, when you really look into it. Gens 4 and 6 were the Golden Ages of Pokémon anime, while Gen 5 was the Dark Age.
Lapras is partly based on a Plesiosauria, similar to her Aggron which has a large dragon-friendly move pool and her Archeops which is based on the Archaeopteryx. So in short, not all dragon-types but all from dragon inspired-designs.

I can't see her team getting oneshot with an icepunch each either. Either your lucario is totally overleveled or you didn't play the game or even battle her. I can see lucario oneshotting hydreigon, aggron and lapras with close combat because of 120 base power +STAB but a non-stab icepunch on 2x effectiveness definitely isn't gonna cut it for iris. You'd have to crit every time or be MASSIVELY overleveled with it's 75 base power without STAB.
this is the rainbow road of pokemon. not because of the difficulty, but because it marks the end of an era, and the last of the 2d games. this theme feels like a sendoff, shouting thanks to those who listen, and i love it. not only does it encapsulate iris but it expresses the journey here and how we’ve reached the end, at least for now. this song will always hold a special place in my heart.

Ikr, Iris's Haxorus was a pain, but I one shotted Cynthia's Garchomp with an Ice Punch ( no crits )
Probably cause alot of people (myself included) remember using the big bad box legendary for the end game when we were kids (i played pearl so i had Palkia) only for it's rampage to be stopped by Garchomp slapping the fuck outta it with either Dragon Rush or Earthquake. I remember i had to win that fight by baiting out Giga Impact with my HM slave Bibarel so Palkia could come on the recharge and nail it with Ice Beam.
As long you have a Ice move it won't hurt you or your pokemon....

I can't remember her original team but her rematch team on White 2 sometimes gives my level 87s and above a hard time
Eh, not if you had Ice beam on nearly every pokemon and actually trained instead of blowing through the gane and running from wild encounters. Even her haxorus went down fairly easily.

sparkmanSP On the first time though, Charizard and Gyarados are only 1x weak to ice (no weakness) and I assume Aerodactyl is not weak too, or is only 2x weak, but either way Lapras sweeps with a water STAB move and ice beam, and thunder.
Sahlos lance is hard if you dont have any ice types. Just powerlevel your pokemon at elite 4 and purposeley lose against him and let him kiss you lvl 100 team
It may be just a coincidence, but i like to think Iris’s champion outfit was foreshadowing fairy type Pokémon, and she had an Aggron to tell you that in the future, Steel types will be their weakness.

Iris is has perfect character development. She starts as weak and afraid but becomes a gym leader. She then pushes herself to become champion and does so. She starts as a forgettable NPC with an axew and after 2 years have passed she becomes champion. She grows as a character. She sees the joy yet intensity in battling and implements it into her theme. This made her in my opinion the best champion of all time.

Iris' theme is just THE BEST. She's also just a phenomenonal character, because she's the most relatable: Iris is just like the protagonist, you, a trainer who worked their hardest to beat the Elite Four and become the champion of the Unova region! Therefore, it feels like you are fighting another trainer with the same ambitions as you, and it's absolutely awesome. I love Iris so much, and this theme represents her perfectly. One of the best characters in Pokémon, and the best champion. Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are phenomenal games, man.

@@radarred4529 IMO 6 or 7 out of 10. Not awful but not great either. Even with win streak she had in the past, it still wasn't much as a trainer though she still had some solid skills that made her a candidate to succeed Drayden as gym leader of Opelucid.
Fun fact: going by Pokemon levels, Iris is either the 2nd or 3rd strongest NPC trainer in the entire series.
Basically, if you go by "highest levelled pokemon in the party" then Iris comes in 3rd (Level 83 Haxorus), behind Barry (Level 85 starter on his final rematch in Platinum) and Red (Level 88 Pikachu in HGSS).
If you rank by the sum of the levels of all the pokemon in her party, she ties for 2nd place with Barry (combined total of 488), behind Red (combined 502 in HGSS, 510 in LGPE).

The rematch with iris is easily the hardest match I've played Vs an AI.
Every Mon lvl 81 with her haxorus being lvl 83. Hydreigon has perfect coverage with wise glasses to boost special attack, a friggin life orb salamence, an archeops running the amusing flying gem + acrobatics combo, an aggron that if you underestimate will sweep you after an autotomize, a lapras that puts you to sleep with sing and then never misses blizzard, thunder or hydro pump cause it has a zoom lens, and ofc dat sash haxorus.
I lost to her twice and had to use an actual strat of tyranitar + excadrill to beat her.
Yeah Cynthia is overrated, beat her even though it was my first Pokemon game. But Iris was a fucking nightmare

I think that overall (without challenge mode) the diamond/pearl/platinum league is much harder than black/white because the elite 4 and Cynthia are all somewhat challenging whereas the black white elite 4 are a piss take with iris being the only challenge

I love how this theme is less of a "this is gonna be really tough" but it's more of a journey's end type of song. It fits perfectly in black and white 2 and the first time I heard it in game I was actually happy about the end of the game. Where the game before with N's farewell speech got me tearing up. The end of black and white was perfect, end of black and white 2 was cheerful

I finally understand why Diantha was so easy! Game Freak wanted to give us an easy battle after fighting Cynthia in Diamond/Pearl, fighting her again in Platinum, fighting Ghetsis in BW, and Iris in B2W2!

I really don't get why Iris gets so much hate. In my opinion, she's one of the better characters plus her team is pretty darn good. In fact, she's the only Champion to ever give me any problems.

Brandon Anime That's another thing I don't get. In the anime, I thought that she was actually a pretty good trainer. In fact, she's my top favorite out of all of Ash's traveling companions thus far. Even on there her team is good. Well, once she matures and all that. I can honestly see her eventually becoming the champion in the anime too. XD

I was so surprised when I knew Iris was the champion in Unova area just because she'd been a gym leader in bw.
By the way, I used to play the both games,bw and bw2 made in "Japan".
She used only "ひらがな" when she spoke in bw, which means she was just a little child.
But she mixed "漢字" and "ひらがな" to talk with someone in bw2, two years after bw's world, which means she'd become an adult mentally although she was still at young age !
That's my another surprising experience when I met her in bw2 !
BW2 are such wonderful masterpieces that I've ever played; I really appreciate Junichi Masuda !

Edit 2: In celebration of the fact that this comment is over a year old and literally 2,200+ people have low enough standards to like this comment, I'm going to give you guys some extra backstory.
When I first fought Champion Iris, I never once realized (and I still hadn't when I first wrote this comment) that the reason I got so utterly crushed was because I let her Haxorus use Dragon Dance. Keep in mind, this was my first ever main Pokemon game. The first time she used Dragon Dance, I literally pulled out my phone, looked up what it did, and said to myself, "eh, it's only a single attack and speed buff, it shouldn't be that bad, right?"

@@bobboi3507 Gen 1 anime is a hot mess. Classic, yes, but messy as all getout, when you really look into it. Gens 4 and 6 were the Golden Ages of Pokémon anime, while Gen 5 was the Dark Age.
Lapras is partly based on a Plesiosauria, similar to her Aggron which has a large dragon-friendly move pool and her Archeops which is based on the Archaeopteryx. So in short, not all dragon-types but all from dragon inspired-designs.
This theme is just one last hurrah to *the* generation that peaked.
