I bought one and it actually works well with my 20 gallon planted tank. I use my python on the 100 gallon.

Seam's to be a very nice way to vacuum the substrate of a aquarium, since all the resources that you showed, the flow regulator sound's great, so you can control the volume of water that you want to drean of the tank, just going to see how much this cost in the internet, nice video as always.

I have both sizes of these, the small version for the flex 34 liter which is perfect, and the bigger one for my shaker 252 and they actually work with no problems, i also have the mains powered pro vac but i don,t use that one so much, i think it,s a bit more hassle to set it up, these are quick and simple..

The one with the "thumb regulator" is horrible. The red priming pump gets stuff caught in it and stops working, and you then have to pull it a part to get the stuff out of it. Also, eventually the plastic of the pump splits and leaks. I have gone through two already in the last few months. I have now decided to try a different fluval cleaner.

I’ve tried many vacs. I even made my own vac, which works fine. If I were to purchase another vac, this would be the one I would get. Thank you for sharing such an excellent vac. Is it available at your LPS, or Big Box Pet Shop?

Thanks Jose! Yes, the Fluval GravelVAC should be available at most aquatics retailers in your area. 👍

Hi Fluval. Which vac should I use for the fluval bio-substrate. It's compressed soil and I'm wondering if it will get messy with the Vac. I'm close to completing 2 weeks of my new tank and I need to do some cleanup.

Hi there, great question! We don't recommend cleaning Stratum like gravel or sand, as doing so will cause the soil to break down prematurely. Instead, hover a small gravel vac over the substrate while gently stirring up surface detritus with a turkey baster or your fingers. The EasyVac Mini is a great tool for this! fluvalaquatics.com/us/shop/product/easyvac-gravel-cleaner-mini-10-25-cm

I'd like to take a moment and highlight the FX series Gravel Vac. Seriously, love this accessory! I had to have my local fish store bring it for me in because it's not as well known/accessible in Canada as it should be!!

does this work with sand or will it vacuum up the sand?

    • @fluval

Hi there! You can use GravelVACs with sand substrates, but you'll need to throttle the flow using the thumb-operated flow regulator to ensure sand isn't removed from the aquarium!

Hi I’ve tried a couple of vacs but most of my tanks are lowboys so it’s difficult to get a flow going so I’m using a turkey baster which is a nightmare. Can any of your vacs help me Thanks Tony UK

Hi Tony! The smaller version of the GravelVAC might do the trick - it's about 35 cm tall, so it's suitable for shorter aquariums. You can also check out the EasyVAC Mini, which is just 25 cm tall: fluvalaquatics.com/us/shop/product/easyvac-gravel-cleaner-mini-10-25-cm

Hi there! The Easy Start siphon is used to start the GravelVAC. If yours didn't come with that part, we recommend returning the unit to the retailer from which you purchased it.
