As always your videos are awesome and you are a great player... and you just went up another notch in my book by being honest about the fret buzz on the guitar you were sent for free. You could have just ignored that and fluffed the guitar just to be on Firefly's "good side" to continue to receive free gear, but you were honest about the flaw. Anyway, congrats on the sponsorship and I'll be looking for more killer vids! Cheers!

Thank you Chris man! And that's my thing! I don't care who sends me what, even if Gibson or Fender sent me something (I wish LOL) but regardless, I'm gonna be completely honest! If something is off, finish, electronics, frets anything it's getting pointed out! My integrity as an honest reviewer is worth more than any guitar there is! But thank you so much bro! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

That's usually what the older Fireflys had an issue with. Surprising to hear they still have guitars with microphonic pickups this recent? Thought they got around that problem, But thats good that your guitar was rock solid besides the pickups! And thank you so much man! I appreciate it!

Excellent video as usual. I have several Fireflys and am happy with most of them, however they don't sound like that, I think it's the player though...lol. I have a feeling you can make almost any guitar sound great. Excellent review and great playing. For the price and look of the Fireflys I don't mind a little fret work. They seem to gradually be getting better with their QC, most problems now seem to be fret issues and wiring issues.

I bought the SG style Firefly. Almost half the frets were a little high . Instead of sanding and recrowning them. I set the neck in a neck cradle, heated the high frets very carefully with a soldering iron at 300=320 degrees to soften the fret glue if there is any, gets hot very quickly. Then took my fret hammer plastic end and hammer them down. Worked very well! Much easier than sanding and filing!!!

Thank you so much James! Haha! Well I'm flattered you think so! I still don't think I'm any good, but i still appreciate that you think i am! And yeah, i mean the frets on this guitar aren't the worst i've seen so i don't mind it too much! But had one where you couldn't even play it they were that bad. Oh yeah! With the newer stuff they've been putting out, they've definitely gotten better with not just the hardware/electronics but the build quality too! Frets they still need to work on, but nothing a couple spot leveling can't solve!

Grabbed an fflv off their ebay site. 11 out of 22 frets needed to be addressed. I believe the ebay site is for their returns. I found the older model to have shrill, weak puckups so I replaced them with wilkinson vintage tone pickups. Still for 189 USD you can't beat it. So how was the overall feel of the guitar? My fflv has a fatter than I prefer neck and felt a bit light for its size. When Strumming unplugged it has a hollow sound. Would you say that is similar or not to the new models ?
Thanks and as always, great video.

Oh damn, yeah that's not expectable at all! This one i got sent only had like 2 frets but that many is just no good. And you're probably right, i'd still to guitars garden or amazon if you buy from them again. Yeah i bought a FFLX before i got this one where the pickups were weak as hell too. But oh yeah for the price it's still great! But the feel is pretty much the same as an older FFLX, neck pretty much feels the same as well. Just the pickups are way hotter! Which is GOOD haha! But thank you bro! Im glad you enjoyed it man!

My dad is probably Firefly's biggest customer.
He's been buying them for at least 5 years.
The first 8-10 he bought were kinda janky.
And I had nothing but scorn for them because I thought dad was wasting his money.
Over time, he's given those all away.
But these past couple of years Firefly has been exponentially better.
The Mad Cat Telecaster is such a simple and nice guitar.
The semi hollowbody teles with the thumbnail inlays are gorgeous.
The 335s are finally not just some big microphone in my lap.
Their QC is substantially better and you STILL can't get a $10,000 American made Gibson Custom Shop with stainless steel frets....

    • @AnthonyRJavino
      @AnthonyRJavino  5 месяцев назад +1

I'm right up there with your dad! I've got like 16-17 of them now haha! Yeah, alot of the earlier ones had crappy bridges and microphonic pickups but they've improved with that stuff over the years for sure! But that's sweet of your old man to give them away! I still have to get the Mad Cat and one of the semi hollow bodys! They look nice! And i can imagine haha! Already get hum with the baffles, pair that with a microphonic pickup forget it! hahaha! But oh absolutely! You'd think a company of that scale and proportion would have their guitars pristine and perfect. Pfft haha!

Keep in mind that the bridge on the semi hollow Teles is floating.
Imagine my surprise when I went to change strings and the entire bridge slid off the guitar.
Had I known this I would have taped it down because I'm sure it's not in the right place now.
And as a matter of fact, he just ordered the black walnut Firefly LP custom.
And I'm trying to talk him into buying the maple fretboard / natural finish LP with the black inlays.
      Cheers...

Those inlays are definitely not abalone. Abalone has a lot of color in it. Lots of greens and blues. Those inlays look like pearloid to me. I don't mean to nitpick, but the truss-rod cover isn't embroidered (sewn-in with thread). I think you mean engraved. Also, you can't copyright a design. Trademark infringement is what Gibson lawyers would be interested in. Sorry. Other than that, it looks like a very nice guitar.

Could have been more wrong with it but I knew after I start replacing parts I can’t return it. Beware if you buy one of these.
