Firearms Expert Reacts To MORE Escape From Tarkov Guns

- Jonathan Ferguson, a weapons expert and Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries, breaks down the realistic weaponry of Escape From Tarkov, including the KRISS Vector submachine gun, the Mosin Nagant rifle, and the SIG MCX assault rifle.
Escape From Tarkov is a brutally realistic take on the first person shooter genre, and its fictional region of Norvinsk is full to the brim contemporary firearms like the MK-18 Mjölnir DMR, the FN FAL battle rifle, and the Dragunov sniper rifle.
In the above video, Jonathan Ferguson--a weapons expert and Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries--breaks down the weapons of Escape From Tarkov, and compares their in-game depictions against their real-world counterparts.

Give him access to the game 😂
Fun fact for Jonathan concerning the Mosin missing the front sight post/aperture - That's a common form of trolling in the game. When you kill someone, you take the front sight off their mosin and keep it, then throw the gun in a bush. They'll (probably) get the gun back in insurance, and not notice anything is wrong with it until they go into a raid with it and there's no front sight.
The clip was them playing as a scav, which you usually get busted guns with. Also, take off the rear sight instead of the front sight, not having a front sight on a mosin in-game you can still be pretty accurate but a missing rear sight is going to mess them up completely.

I managed to go a couple of years ago, made the trip down specifically to see it. It's genuinely a wonderful museum that has an incredible collection with brilliant discussion. If you're from anywhere in mainland Britain, I suggest making a special trip specifically to visit the museum. If you're from the British Isles or Ireland, I suggest spending a few days in Leeds regardless because it is a lovely city with plenty to do but make sure it's on your list of activities while you're there. "The mosin seems to be only good at range with a scope and the assault rifles surely have the advantage" yeah he has never just been one tapped with a mini mosin in the face and lost his tier 5 kit. RIP
that is why you wear a helmet, and if you can a killa mask.
Never played tarkov, so I could very well be wrong on this. But this seems to be a more economy thing than an actual usability thing. A sporterized mosin (what I'm guessing your "mini mosin" is referring to), should be a very, very cheap rifle. Lets say $100. Where something like a Sig MCX kitted would be around $3,500-$5,000 depending on optics. If the mosin can even beat out the Sig 1 out of 10 times, that still makes it 3.5-5x more cost effective in a game where lives don't matter. From these kind of statements about people CQB'ing with a mosin, this seems to be the gist of the tarkov economy - where cost effectiveness of loadout is far more important than life (I presume if you die, you lose your loadout, and maybe some sort of minor after effect).
Where that's obviously not very realistic. I think what would make more sense, is if you die, you get perma-banned from the game. Of course, probably not fun from a game standpoint, but this I presume is why so many people are willing to CQB with a bolt action rifle, because death just doesn't matter beyond that one 15-30 minute session. Not because it's actually a good or even decent choice, but because it makes economic sense. In most games, and what I think Johnathan sees as the case in Tarkov as well, is that loadouts are not lost on round loss. So if you never lost that 5k MCX loadout when you do get popped by a sporterized mosin, do you really think sporterized mosins would be used as they are?

If rifle cartridges made sense in pistols, we would have pistols using rifle cartridges. But we don't, because... they don't. Yes, rifle cartridge pistols *do* exist, but they're kind of the rule 34 of firearms. If you can imagine it, someone has made it. But it makes even less sense outside of a game world. Thank you for clarifying what was being referred to, though it only makes the idea that much less practical.

I think that you should also review weapon jamming animations. In addition, in his own time I think he should see the gun stats menu (showing off ergonomics, hor. recoil, vert. recoil). He could view the machine gun and automatic grenade launcher emplacements on either the Customs map or Reserve. I also think maybe showing more varied enemies in footage; the content is likely done in offline mode, but I highly recommend showing bullet penetration power via engaging with scav bosses or their minions. Anyways, love your content hope Nikita blesses you!
I love hearing an expert talk about this great game in such detail. The SVDS does have some drop-off, pretty much the game feels like any round with 800+ m/ps muzzle velocity feels like it doesnt drop at a considerable distance, but once you drop down to 600-750 m/ps range you definitely have to aim a bit higher and lead shots more. the MCX (and the AKM/VPO KM) only have joint mags with the other caliber (so the MCX and M4 mags are the same with limitations of course) and the AKM 7.62x39 series weapons share the same mags with the .336 TKM rounds. The only real effect they have on the gun when feeding the incorrect ammo via the mags is the gun jams, forcing you to remove the bullet from the chamber. it would be cool to see some explosions though
Battlestate Games actually has most of the guns in the game hanging on a wall in the studio
Keep this series coming indefinitely please! Fascinating hearing Jonathan breakdown the guns we all know and love from gaming 💚

@@F1ghteR41 Yeah I will need to order myself a copy.
Where does one find the video of the lecture?
@@PSNGormond Is it still in stock? I thought it was all bought up a long time ago. Good luck anyway!
Ayy, you guys even got some of the guns of the new patch in this like the Vector and the MCX. Very nice!
This is a great series. Props to whoever taught of starting it
"I'd spent most of the time in [the gun Smith] instead of shooting anything"
True
Continue to pay him for his time. Protect him at all cost. Gem.
Make a whole series of Jonathan reacting to all of Tarkov’s guns please! More of these!
I just wanna say that I love watching these videos with Jonathan Ferguson, he's a wonderful host.
I play tarkov, and I can’t go back to playing games like cod because of how unrealistic they are
Especially if we are talking about attachments, It just really bugs me that when you put a suppressor on your gun in cod you lose damage. Like wtf
I get the feeling, the satisfaction of each kill, the looting, the ballistics and the health system... once you go tarkov, you never go back..Also loved Anomaly
I think it's the thrill factor. You always have something to lose when you're dying, and even the very good player in the "lobby" can be taken out and you won't need to worry about them respawning and still just owning the match.
Also there's so many ways to actually play the game and still get a successful evac that it doesn't force you to do the same thing over and over.
id feel the same way but i switch between games like arma 3 (obviously not like EFT) but the main point is realism and games like mw just because i like to enjoy that arcade like shooting mechanics every once and a while
I think the reason for the damage malus is the implied use of subsonic rounds.
@@JohnDoe-zh6cp believe it or not, just because a certain type of ammo is subsonic, does not mean it does less damage
Jonathan is amazing to listen to, and his knowledge of firearms is awesome to be given to us
God I would LOVE to see him and Stu Brown of Ahoy do a video about firearms. I love his videos. They're like Animal Planet for guns in video games and other media.
Part 3 please and get this man a PC/copy of Tarkov stat. I'd enjoy watching him "fiddle" in the armory screen. Cheers!
As a gun nerd myself I love this guy. I spend alot of my tarkov time on the modding screen as well.
It is there to be used i enjoy it aswell
05:12 you know he is dangerous when he wears skull ring
Oh no, I'm not at all dangerous. But I do like skulls :)
@@jonathanferguson1211 lmao, the man himself in the comments section and no one seems to have noticed.
Keep up the good work, Jonathan! We love ya man, these vids are great to watch.
I have to say Jonathan just comes across as a **really** nice guy with a lot of firearms knowledge, and hearing him talk about his (our) passion like this with a cup of tea in my hand is just a really pleasant experience.
Good:) keep this format alive, cool vid
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam does a great picture of Buckshot
Sniping with the double barrel with its double shot function is real
@@isaacd4425 im more into the American Shotgun. Sniping with 8 round magazine
This guy is the coolest nerd who ever touched a gun
You just forgot to put "shitload of" between the "a" and "gun".
Yes, definitely we want more comments from an expert. Loved it
Gib part 3. You analyzing these guns is amazing
He even got the Lapua prononciation right :D
I don't know if you know this but his thing is kinda guns
i like calling it lah-puah just cus it sounds like a fancy french death bullet
I would absolutely watch a third Tarkov Video! I would also LOVE to see what Jonathan's reaction to Hunt: Showdown's guns would be. The game is from 1890's period, with a few videogame style gimme's for a cool gun outside of the period, but its representation of the weapons and cartridge types feels really good to me.
I would LOVE to see a 3rd Part about Tarkov. I love the series in general but so much Jonathan is fascinated by the details, i am fascinated by the details he explains. Some known, some unknown :D
I'd love to see a reaction on Receiver 2, which for me is the most precise gun simulation out there.
Gamespot should send him a gaming pc.
