Back in the 1940s, there was some kind of event at The Friar's Club and a bunch of singers were scheduled to perform. The original schedule had Jolson next to closing and Sinatra closing. Sinatra looked at the schedule and said "let Jolson close. I ain't following him!".
I'm young to really no much about jobs on, but I rember my mum likeing him , I was only a little girl but was and still am blown away by this man's vocie,
Brilliant digital collaboration between 2 TITANS ! Nigel, you definitely know your top tier entertainers. Now how about a duet with Judy and Al . Thank You !
What is it about this song that makes it so mournful and sad? Is it the nostalgia of days gone by? Is it the vague memory of defeat of the South in the Civil War? Or is it something else? I dunno. It's a beautiful song. But there's an undertone of sadness that just completely envelops this song.
Yes, this is the Hollywood Bowl. It's still going strong in 2022 and looks about the same. Universal Studios, wiith it's tourism and adjoining hotels, is about a mile north on the Hollywood Freeway which runs on the other side of that hill right behind the Bowl.
Larry Parks did a fantastic job with Jolson’s mannerisms but he lip synced Jolson’s voice. And did it so well many people thought he was actually singing.
Wow these two would be vilified today, blm/antifa would be sitting outside the Hollywood Bowl attacking all the fans as they're trying to get back to their cars.
@@nigeldreiner He doesn't realize the young Sinatra voice is so different from the more familiar older Sinatra. Listen to Sid Mark's weekly show "The Sounds of Sinatra" and you'll hear the young Sinatra.
@@edwardcricchio6106 Right you are! After Sinatra had his voice problems in the late'40s and made his singing comeback he'd become a "dark Baritone". Earlier than this, when Sinatra first appeared, his voice was even a bit higher and at times you could tell that he was imitating Crosby a bit. Crosby and Jolie were his idols.
@@nigeldreiner I wouldn’t apologize Nigel. There are some small minded, uneducated people out there and only have racism to talk about. Keep up your good work.
Excellent audio integration. The result easily stands up to any of Sinatra's famous official duets, and easily exceeds most of them.
Wow! Well if that isn't the compliment of the century - thank you very much!
Just does not get any better than this!
The two greatest singers of all time.
Thanks for joining them together!
No Bing was up there too
My Dad was just as good he sang this great song way out there yeah he was cool

Sinatra sang this song as a tribute to Al Jolson. in 1946 ! 👍
Just proves how great Jolson was!
I'm so glad that I grew up during the Jolson-Sinatra era. This brings back such fond memories of so many good things.
Brilliant I love Jolson s voice
Our family were brought up on Al Jolson.💖
I'm young to really no much about jobs on, but I rember my mum likeing him , I was only a little girl but was and still am blown away by this man's vocie,

i love these duet videos. Think i've listened to this specific one about ten times now.
Fabulous Find ❤
Absolutley WOW Nigel!! This literally gave me goose bumps🙂. I could never understand why the powers that be never got Sinatra to guest on a KMH Show.
Agreed - boggles the mind. That would have been a perfect time in Sinatra's career too!
Great, just great. Well done!

Frank Sinatra e Al Jolson, dois monstros sagrados da música popular norte-americana do século XX.
When I vacationed in S.Cal. I think I saw this amphitheater. The Hollywood Bowl? Around the corner from the Sheraton Universall.
Very nice. Rosa Larsen
Dos genios inolvidables
Al was the 1st person video recorded ,by Thomas Edison.
That’s not even remotely true. Lol
Bob Dylan would love this! Perhaps somebody could direct him to it?
Al jolson in the second photo looks like Louis de Funes hahaha
No acts like these nowadays
NOT what if? Should be!

The Myer music bowl in Australia leaves it for dead.
Year please
Jolson brought crooning to the for
💚🙏💚
Jolson is so much better.
Sinatra pales compared to Jolson.
Apples and oranges to me.

Doesn’t sound like Sinatra or Jolson!
I don't know what to tell you 🤷♂️
