Wow the starter looked like it was hard work figuring it out, and then getting it back in was a struggle. I used to do my own maintenance on my Jeep until my hands stopped working , then my doctor said no more mechanical work on my Jeep. Over the 10 years of DIY on it I had broken nearly every bone in my hands but never realized it. When he showed me the X-rays I saw how badly the bones were broken and the damage it was. It wasn't good. I was so happy to see you fixing your van. It's nice to know Matthew was there coaching you. The best way to learn is by doing it yourself! Have a happy day. @@happycoffeevanlife Bruce Vanlife jr on a recent post replaced his transmission (had to do it more than once due to bad replacement transmission at the wrecker) . His van was dead on the road for well over a month and he lived there. most would have towed the van in to be fixed and payed the debt later. He didn't do that. He did the repair himself with minimal tools on the side of the road and used tie down straps to lower the transmission out and back in place for "safety". he had a jack and 2 jack stands. I was sure he would crush his head. Without a hoist I would never have attempted it. worth watching.. necessity is the mother of invention. not trying to take clout from your accomplishment. i am just surprised how people in this community push themselves and exceed limits that people outside of this community would not.
@@TechPeasant404it’s inspiring what determined - and broke 😅 - people can accomplish. Amber and Bruce got it done and are on the road now 👍

Great to see you Amber!! You did a great job filming! You captured some gorgeous scenery. Your editing was really good too. I like the touch of adding in subtitles to explain what was going on. I'm sure that is less stressful on you rather than hearing yourself speak. It would be nice to hear your sweet voice a bit more though. Hi Amber, I saw you replacing your starter on Matthew's channel and was so happy for you that it seems to have fixed your grinding noise issue. I noticed you mentioned that the gear teeth looked ok even with the grinding. That's pretty normal. When the starter receives power to actuate, it also powers the solenoid which basically pushes the gear outwards so that it can engage with the flex plate to spin up your engine. I suspect that was your issue. If you really want to confirm, you can power up the solenoid directly and see how well it pushes out the gear. If it struggles, is slow, doesn't come out all the way, etc. That's your sign the solenoid is malfunctioning.
