@@snapple5094 Naw, this one is way better with the orchestra playing with them. As a matter of fact, this arrangement is the only way this song should be performed live. It's perfect, the violins add so much more emotion to the song.
I thought this was commonly known, but judging by the comments maybe it isn't. He wrote this song about his mom who died of cancer. She's Cinderella, the one he implores to not go to sleep because everybody needs her. It's heartbreaking, and that's why his performance is so emotional. This song came out around the same time my dad died of cancer, and it broke me. I've seen it live twice, and it's very gut wrenching.
I Always wondered the inspiration of this song. The whole line about the devil getting ready for the show down...every line really...thank you for sharing this.
Of all the performances of Dustland,... THIS one is THE BEST❣️It's where, just a few years ago (approx. 2020), I fell in love with what [I thought] was this NEW BAND... lol THE INTENSITY... THE UTTER PASSION... I was driving my new car on I-40 thru Durham, NC TO wilmington... with my 1st ever computerized sound system... from off my phone (on youtube)... AS HIGH AS THE VOLUMN WOULD GO... for 3 STRAIGHT HOURS.... THEN, once home, was able to read about WHY he had written this song, and the story of his dear and ailing Mom... And his Dad... IT TOUCHED ME SO VERY MUCH... IT WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY TOP 10 FAVS... I'm 62 and I think music of this caliber is right in there with SHAKEY GRAVES, PINK FLOYD, BOB SEGER, the early ROLLING STONES, YES, COUNTING CROWS, QUEEN, THE EAGLES, CCR, THE BLACK CROWES and all of the groups whose song writing truly told a grand story... JUST LOVE IT❣️❣️❣️ And I FELT IT...
This is why the killers is my favourite band. I've never seen a similar performance from anyone. I think there is nobody that could play a piece like that, live. I still cannot believe it, when he says "out here the good girls die" and there is a little silence of the instruments my skin still freezing like the first time I heard it. And of course I'm still listening at 2020 and forever
Greatest live performance I’ve ever seen. I have never had this feeling from music I wasn’t present for. They completely rocked me. Through the headphones plugged into my ipad. I felt almost devastated by the time they faded out with that little soft guitar. David Letterman should have gave these guys some more respect than that. I can’t even imagine what it would have been like to witness this specific performance in person. I am still lowkey shook, and I’ve been watching this video since it was first uploaded. I am a hiphop artist, so rock and roll was never my lane, but i respect good music, and The Killers are the best band of my lifetime.
I thought the same thing about letterman. What was that stupid joke about renting a van? Maybe I missed something. Conan is way more respectful. But letterman has always been a prick. I’ve watched this so many times and I skip the letterman part so he doesn’t taint this absolutely stunning performance.
O___O That happened at Letterman ? O___O It must be the best live rendition of DFT I've heard, ever. Better that the Royal Albert Hall. Jesus. I hope the audience enjoyed it properly, although I doubt it. That song may be Flower's masterpiece. The build up is fabulous. What happens at 3:30 remains to this day one of the most powerful thing I've heard in a song.
You know what, A Dustland Fairytale is my favorite The Killers' song. God knows how much I love this song. I have goosebumps all the time that I watch this live performance. Thanks for the video.
This band is the reason that the current generation has a chance. Emotional and gifted lyrics performed by flawless musicians. i'm 67 yrs old, I've seen and heard the best, this group is as good if not better than anyone who has ever plugged in and played. A national treasure.
Every day the music of the killers plus the genuine passion and care for humanity and oh so much to say brings me absolute joy and provides permanent optimism. I'm the same age. Can't live without music.
Well said. Agreed, and I’m HUGE Springsteen fan. You can tell, Bruce is in awe of this song: written on 5-6 metaphorical levels, just as he would, with a Wall of Sound!!
I remember, by pure chance, flicking channels and landing on this late one night a few years ago, and I remember the hairs standing up on the back of my neck and the tears in my eyes at the pure power of the emotion and energy behind this very, very special performance.. these guys are the real deal, and will be some of the very few popular musicians from this time that history will look kindly upon... there is so, so much superficial trash out there, but music is still alive.
Have had a few years to digest this performance and still think it is one of the very best live moments in recent music. Total emotion and manic energy. Go The Killers!!
His mother, must've been crying with pride, crying with heartfelt memory for the love of her husband, and as a mother, I feel that for her every time I watch this video over and over again. I am so thankful she got to see it What a good boy you are honey.... you are really something to have done this for her
I never give up to listen this performance in live . Oh my God! The killers was outstanding. Brandon 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I love them so much ❤️ One of my favourite bands
Ojalá todos tuvieran la posibilidad de ver esta gran banda en vivo, sentiran la emoción y gratitud de estar frente a verdaderos maestros de la música y el mejor intérprete del siglo XXI, saludos y gracias the killers...
day and age came out when i was deployed to iraq in 2009. i watched this performance over and over again on youtube when i was over there. the performance moves me every time. i used to go on late night runs around the interior perimeter of our base in the middle of baghdad with this album on repeat on my ipod. it was the soundtrack of my tour over there. also love how letterman's suit & tie combo matches the album cover.
One of my most favorite sons ever and one of the most special performances I have ever seen. I get chills every time I watch this, I cant imagine how amazing it would of been to have witnessed this in person.
Every single one of those Killers songs should have an orchestra. :D ADF may be Flowers' greatest song in my eyes too, and I love everything, the studio version (obviously), every damn live, etc., but the addition of the violins in that one is quite remarquable...
Remember when we were together on the killers concert? We were listening to this song and I looked at you and I was so full of joy because you are my prince, my best friend, my partner... I'm so sorry we had to break up, but time will answer our questions, it's all that we need: time. Maybe one day we can be together again. Hope so. Love, your little rose.
Love this song which I just found out today. I did not know the story about it til now. But the first time I heard it, for me personally, I thought it was something about a loss dream, or future. Regardless, the song hit a chord. Fantastic song.
this song is not only beautiful, it's awful sad and every word in it is just heart-breaking. maybe because it's true story. it's honest, and that's why is tragic. I think everyone saying that The Killers are talantless should first listen to this. and to "Goodnight travel well" which tears you apart everytime you hear it.
This is one solid performance...full of emotion and guts. I certainly got those chills you get when you watch something pretty special they were firing on all cylinders. I don't think I've heard a better life performance than this particular one. They should definitely set the point of every time he sings it live... Well done!!
Luca, only 75K for *this* video, there are dozens out there, The official video has many more views. This has been said already, but this video is mother freaking epic, flawless, damn near perfect, when it's all said and done The Killers will be mentioned as an all time rock and roll band, and probably the greatest American band of all time, Queen put on the greatest live performance at Wembly, Killers put on the second greatest live performance at Royal Albert Hall
Woah woah! steady on there. The Killers are great but greatest American band of all time? Flowers is immense but the chord limitations of Keuning across most of their music is quite limited which takes the edge off them as a band.
Putting aside the fact that this is the best live performance ever.... I bet that all the band members were not able to "digest" such a good performance. They seem to be amazed with the violins, harp, and every single instrument in that orchestra. This was the most moving performance in the history of music!
magnificent work of art. The symphony is spectacular, guitar and bass are relentless, the battery inspires so much energy, amazing ... And Brandon, his talent is unique. simply a great gift for everyone!
3:35 no longer singing but actually imploring mum to stay. maybe the most amazing grief song I have ever heard.
will go down as one of the best Killers performances without a doubt
If a performance could be gorgeous that would be it.
Bit late but i think the performance at the royal albert hall is a bit better
@@snapple5094 this is brilliant but I have to agree with you.

Andrea Sharff thanks..I just realized..how beautiful..
Moon River was one of her favorite songs too.
Chills
I Always wondered the inspiration of this song. The whole line about the devil getting ready for the show down...every line really...thank you for sharing this.
Theirs also allusions to his dad being a drunkard
2024 and still my fav live performance
Lmao same
Its 2020 and I still find myself back here
Both of us
You're not alone
Same here! 👋👋👋
I think this is their best performance ever, so buddy you’re not alone. I’m here at least once a month
This performance gives me chills ⚡😎
the size of that man's balls to do a clean guitar outro like that following the entire performance
absolutepast CONFIDENCE.
The should enshrine his balls in the Louvre and make an exhibit
That’s Dave Keuning for ya’. He’s the best.
he is not even wearing shirt so you know whats up :D
Really…GROW UP.
I don't think I saw Brandon perform with such passion, emotion and vulnerability in any other video (live or not). This performance is a timeless gem.

Two reasons I love The Killers. 1. The music. 2. Ronnie's faces when he's drumming.
his voice ❤❤❤

Not an overstatement at all. One of the best I've ever seen. Really amazing.

If your spine doesn’t quiver at 3:38 I can’t be friends with you
a plea, a cry... a "mom don't go"
The lead up with the violins all the way to that high note are absolute magic.
still gives me chills every time i watch this.
Same here. Such crisp vocals. Very nice melody. Much emotions. Wow.
Same 😊
2023....and same, watch this allllll the time.....back in the day when it actually aired-i had a dvd recorder ...watched this everyday 😂
In essence ...basically everyone rocking out to within an inch of their lives (all glued together by a demon on the drums) - a stellar performance.
It’s 2024.
I just found the killers this year and wow
Now they are my fav !
Ronnie was bashing those skins like a possessed man!

Yes, it was. The violin playing at 3:24 was extremely powerful. I already loved this song, but this live performance took it to a whole new level.
OUT HERE THE GOOD GIRLS DIE :'( please is perfect
I recently discovered this video!
O_____O
And I'm shocked too.
This is the best performance they have made!
OMG so beutiful!
letterman always had stellar bands on doing some of their best live performances. when letterman asked you to be on you don't miss your shot.
When he sings "God gives us Hope" and looks up,,,,,powerful
It doesn't get much better than this
OMG This has to be not only one of the best the killers performance but one of the best rock alive presentations on T.V.
They should always perform with a strings ensemble!
He sings with such passion 💓
You know what, A Dustland Fairytale is my favorite The Killers' song. God knows how much I love this song. I have goosebumps all the time that I watch this live performance. Thanks for the video.

I will never ever get sick of this song and watching him sing about his mother and father just breaks my heart
I’ll never forget watching this with my dad. For me, the best Letterman performance I’ve ever seen.

Funny that you mention this. This song has made me very emotional, even before I learned what the lyrics meant.
This is as good as it gets in modern music, what a performance!

the strings addition gives this song so much more. so good.
I'm not religious, but the feeling I get from watching this is, I'm guessing, what a religious experience must feel like :D
This is absolutely unbelievable. No other band could play this in this way and with the same impact and emotion. Just incredible!

Beautiful lyrics - take some time to find out the story behind them and it will bring a whole other dimension to the song.

Love Brandon's smile in the beginning
Imagine trying to go to bed, about to fall asleep, and then the Killers come on with this EPIC performance! Damn. Their drummer is a beast.

That line "now Cinderella don't you fall asleep, it's such a beautiful refuge" is just awesome
Paul Chamberlain P sure it’s ‘bitter form of refuge’ but still an amazing lyric and actually the line where Brandon almost loses it emotionally.
Trevor, that’s because Cinderella in this song is his mom, who died because of cancer. He is imploring her not to go to sleep 😢💔
Soy caribeña y esta canción sigue siendo una de mis favoritas from THE KILLERS. Nada, que hacía falta un comentario en español aquí
Y yo de Bilbao!!! Kisses

Hoooly shit what an act!And i allways thought that theres nothing good in America..I was terribly wrong..awsome!

Really great stuff.
“Craig Ferguson is next. Goodnight everybody”

Right. God i miss Dave.
Miss David Letterman. He always new good music.
DOOOOOOPE ! one of their best performances eveeer ! eargasmic as hell !

oh I meant "talEntless". and I forgot to add:
this is the best fuckin' perfomance I've seen in my life (and I've seen quite a lot of them).

i so love this version... makes me cry everytime... :'(
Well, I should say, all of them... they look all so invested! Look at ronnie!
Just saw them for the 6th time (now w/different bassist + guitarist) and they were amazing as always
There is no word that could possibly describe and encompass this song, its meaning and the heartfelt performance...xx
Over and over again..best song ever!!!!
