I love the Berlington Northern in every one of your videos haha! I have one of my own, and although not modern anymore, I will always run a Burlington on my layout just because of that beautiful green paint job. It really stands apart.
@TopRailroad lol yeah, I believe there was a merger of a bunch of different companies? Not sure of the history of it. But I think Burlington Northern merged with Santa Fe? Hence engines now that say BNSF? I may be wrong, correct me if I am.
I like your selection of natural dirt and grout, looks great! Yes it's best to seal your wood sheets prior to painting to avoid any warping, try using Varathane (water based) outdoor crystal clear. Bush it on both sides and let dry. You can get it on ebay , amazon, etc.
Great video TR and your layout is shaping up nicely! I too bought the same paint at Walmart as well as the strainer for sifting. The sidewalk you added gave it an additional touch. Last episode when you showed the new freight cars, I ordered 2 39' hopper cars and 2 60' boxcars to add to my fleet! Thanks again for sharing your videos and look fwd to seeing the next one!
So it’s been 11 episodes or so for this newer bigger layout. Can you give us your idea for how big or how many tables and what the final track layout might be. I love seeing this yard develop but when each episode is over, I’m left wondering what the the track is doing or where it’s going elsewhere. Are you planning a point to point layout with operations or will there be big rail fanning loops to run trains continuously. Love your work. You always get a thumbs up from me. Thanks for the weekly vids, shorter or longer.
I appreciate that a lot! And I’ll actually be adding another section here in the next week. It’ll be a point to point layout for a long while but eventually I have it planned to be a full loop
Hello, I enjoyed the episode and I want to see a lot more of your work. You have mentioned in several videos that you have used from your own backyard dirt, and other things laying around in your yard. You also said that you would place these items in the oven so it would kill any bacteria that might ruin the layout. What kind and size bowl or plate should I use to bake this stuff, what temperature should I set it at? and how long should it bake and letting it cool down before I can use it. Could I also use any small pebbles for rock formations? Thank you for your time Sincerely Allan
I used a Pyrex but you want to make sure it’s oven safe and you want to bake it at 400 degrees for maybe 5-8 minutes. But honestly nowadays I don’t bother baking it as I’ve learned that bacteria isn’t that much of a problem especially after using isopropyl alcohol. It’s definitely your call
Hi, how are you? Are you planning on making like a modular whole layout to finally get a "around the room" layout? or what is your idea? really enjoyed how patiently build the previous layout.
@@TopRailroadYour technique of getting some dirt from your own backyard saved me a lot of time (an money!) and looks really good. I got scared at first because when it was steel humid the color of the dirt got really dark, but eventually when it started drying up it got closer to a light brown. I've recently landed on 2 rail H0 trains, cause all my life i've been a Marklin collector (3 rail alternate current, 100% made in Germany), but here where i live (Argentina) is really hard & expensive to buy Marklin stuff, so i've decided to change to normal H0 and it's been the best decision i've made regarding the hobbie. So many different brands, variety of models and range of prieces. Marklin was somehow a "closed ecosystem". Sorry if my english is not that good, it's far from being my native language, Spanish is.
I’m glad you used that technique! And yeah it is darker at first but drys a better lighter color. That sounds awesome, good thing you made the switch from 3 rail to the 2. But thank you! I think your English is pretty good 😁
I really like these videos, keep it up! Also the intro music is really chill, whats the name of the song/where can I find it - if you dont mind sharing it? :)
I use a small spray bottle to spray isopropyl alcohol on the dirt (also ballast) so that it helps not move the dirt around when glueing. Then I use a little dropper I got to glue it all down
I clicked so fast my mouse broke and I had to grab a new one lol. Great episode!!
Looks very realistic. I like how you used the basswood, nice technique. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thank you Dave!
Great episode mate the layout is really progressing well. And those balsa wood paths and roads look great. - Nicholas.

Burlington northern is a great railroad company even though there not around anymore haha

I appreciate it! I’ll have to pick some up. Thanks for info
So you like to add grout to your "real dirt" to make it look more "realistic" 😂 Love it !! Looking great !!
I know 😂😂 but thank you!

The layout is looking great.
It's getting good keep up the good work. Looking forward to next week
Video idea: Buy two Walthers Trainline fright cars, and review them. Also, compare them to your walthers mainline stuff.

Hi and thank you! I plan to eventually go all the way around but that will be a lot later down the road. For now I’ll be doing section by section

Wow, you did a great job on this video, Keep up the good work!
Very nice 👍

Yes! I should have mentioned that
nice videos man keep up the good work greetings from argentina
Thank you and greetings!
It's looking great! Did you make the side walk?
I did using that thin sheet of wood
@@TopRailroad I guess I missed you saying that. That is awesome! I'm heard of people using masonite for roads as well.
Looking pretty good! Where did u get that locomotive?
I got it from Lombard Hobbies, they are sold out right now but they have a good selection
I really like these videos, keep it up! Also the intro music is really chill, whats the name of the song/where can I find it - if you dont mind sharing it? :)
Thanks man! The first song is called Birdseyes Blues by Chris Haugen. It’s from here on RUclips you can use there music which is free
Nice vid!
Just wondering are you going to add more greenery on this layout than the last one ?
For sure, Ill definetly be adding alot more greenery then the last layout
love the vid but, " and ill add some ground mix to make the dirt more realistic"
Thanks! And I actually said grout mix, I talk fast sometimes haha
@@TopRailroad oh lol that's my bad man
You mention Isopropyl alcohol and glue . How are they used ?

how many foam brushes do you use? is it for each paint a new brush or do you wash them? I am new to model rail road.
At least a couple, I always buy a multipack at the Dollar Tree so I sometimes won’t wash them
@@TopRailroad thanks for the reply.
my model train laout is to small to run trains:(
It’s okay man! We all start somewhere, I bet you’ll have an amazing layout sometime in the future!
@@TopRailroad i moving out of my paeits house in few yars thats when i get a big one
Looking good!
