Fun fact about that habanero sauce: Habaneros are named after the Cuban capital Havana (or La Habana in Spanish) because it used to be traded often there. @@EliseEcklund When we got home from our honeymoon, the very first thing the cat did was pee on our wedding presents. He waited until we got home so we would clean it up. He didn't want to live with the smell and didn't trust the cat sitter to clean it. But he was not happy with us abandoning him for 17 days with only a cat sitter and his favorite teddy bear.

The little bird at 3:04 is a house sparrow (more specifically a male). Its native range is spread out from Morocco to Thailand, but they have been introduced to the Americas, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. The sparrows were brought over to Hawaii from New Zealand in the 1870s, and they are now abundant. This is a problem because they are an invasive species and outcompete the native birds, they also brought with them avian malaria. Several species that are endemic to Hawaii are at risk of going extinct altogether because of invasives like sparrows and domestic cats.

I went to Maui 8 years ago and went to the same places you two did. Haleakala actually had snow on top. Maui is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Finally on the real honeymoon and Elise is like a kid on Christmas.
On my honeymoon, we made a deliberate attempt on Thursday (day 4) to leave bedroom & see the town. After 30 minutes, we went back upstairs & didn't come down again until we left Saturday morning.

Everytime we went back we drove up Haleakala, but never went back down that road to Hana. You only do that once.

Hawaii is Paradise. Except for the hiking trails over sharp volcanic rocks. The pahoehoe lava is WAY easier than the a'a lava. And you never even mentioned the gardens of Queen Liliuokalani, which SHOULD merit a mention. But I understand, this was your honeymoon, and you are major in love and it is all you can do to record ANYTHING AT ALL. But ya done good, Elise. This video brought back amazing memories for me, so thanks for this.

The only reason that the doors are so overweight and heavy, is because there can be tsunamis, and high waves by that hotel, so in case water rises to the hotel the doors are secure.

I was just in maui at the exact same place, I stood infront of the same bush, ate the same chocolate and went to the same spots you did! This is completely insane to me. We went on almost exactly the same trip and this is such an interesting coincidence. Hope you had fun! Also I went 2 weeks ago.

3:03 - the birdie is Mazurek (Polish name), Passer montanus. I am surprised it exists in Hawaii. I thought it is common for Europe and Asia. When digging in I've learned it was introduced to USA. Could be was brought to Hawaii in suitcase, on the shoe or something...
