Why begin the daunting task of trying to search for a reputable rental car agency in Costa Rica on the internet (a large percentage of car rental agencies here will rip you off) when you can just email me info@travelcostaricanow.com and ask me who we use. Rental car scams have exited in Costa Rica since there were rental car agencies. 16 years ago, D'Angleo and I got scammed picking up our car. The price was NOT the quoted price. They knew they were ripping us off, we knew they were ripping us off. We did walk out and went to another agency who was going to charge us even more so we returned to the original agency with our tails between our legs and got the car. What were we going to do? We're in a foreign country we were not familiar with and of course they know this. Bottom line, there's just not a few agencies who do this, there's a LOT and it's hard to know which car rental agencies are legit. And the ones that are, tend to be more expensive, like Adobe. Nothing wrong with that, they are good. But we have a cheaper option who still provides great service, new cars and transparent pricing.

Jairo is the real deal!! I've rented with him 3 times and each time have extended time or changed drop off location with ease. Prices are competitive, service is spectacular...I'm heading to CR again very soon and will definitely continue to use Jairo! Pura Vida Men!

I just came back from playa flamingo area. Second time renting with Jairo. Also, the person did me a solid and upgraded my car for free cause the one I reserved was getting cleaned and didn’t want me to wait.
I've told people visiting Costa Rica about the issues that they could experience, mentioned in the video. They don't listen and get ripped off. Contact Jairo and save yourself from a potential nightmare.

I rented a mid size 4x4 from Jairo after the retreat last March. I paid for it to be dropped off it was on time and due to high demand they delivered a brand new Forerunner . The drop off in Quepos was also with some great locals !

We are booked through Jairo for our first trip to Costa Rica next month. Thanks to the last video you did about him. And my own research I felt confident he was the one to go through. He was very polite and communicative throughout the process. He patiently answered all my questions. When we decided to extend our trip by a few days, I had no problems with additional communication and a new quote.

Thank you. This is very valuable info. I have a guy i use in San Jose. I've been using him every time i come. He has a similar opearational policy as your guy Jairo. I dont pay deposit until i arrive , fair pricing (compared to others in the area) picksme up from the airport. I will say the cars are older and and he doesn't have as many offices so God forbid if car breaks down. In fact ill be there this Wednesday. I may have a change of mind & hit this guy up.

Driving in Costa Rica is as crazy as anywhere, hire a driver or have Tico driver for you, renting vehicles is Costa Rica is a crazy idea unless you plan to stay but if you on vacation don't rent. The roads are third world and anything can happen. Too many bandits with smiles.
I just got back a couple days ago from CR and rented through him and had no surprises before or after returning car. I would recommend.

I rented a car from enterprise last december for 8 days I booked by phone 2 weeks before. Paid $240.
When I picked up the car They upgraded me to a S.U.V for free, Maybe I was just lucky but I always use enterprise anywhere in the world
What was your deposit? Had to be like $2000
We did use Car rental Costa Rica on our trip in March and we had no problems . I’m coming back Aug and trying to cut cost on this trip but it looks like for the month I’m there I will need a car.

Michael, just to clarify, on the desktop version of your website car rental in the upper right links to Adobe, while to get to Jairo one needs to scroll down, right?
Our car rental experience/tip is this: If we get into San Jose in the dark after two flights and seven hours in the air, we don't pick up a rental car and drive out of SJO in the dark while tired. Get a good nights sleep and have the rental car delivered to a hotel in the morning. Not sure about the others, but Adobe will deliver to Heredia free of additional charges. Of course some people want to blast out of the Central Valley right away though.
Yes, true. Adobe is great, the biggest but also more expensive... Jairo is the same, just cheaper.
Going to give Jairo a shot next time. He did hook a friend up with a hard to find large van.

Very quick to respond with prices and the car is there with no issues when you arrive at the price he told you.
I think it was Alamo that I got the car through but Jairo was the broker and it was 40% less than if I had walked in the same company and rented the same car.

Sorry, but this company said it cared and was the best way to go do avoid all the added fees of named rentaL COMPANIES. Said I would cost $1000. for 10 days. I got a car for 10 days with Budget, though Expedia. No added fees, except the manditory insurance I knew about. Quick in and Out. 7 Passenger Toyota Rush, $729.
45 offices around Costa, wow, rental space must be cheap, also, explain why he can offer (No Deposit) and most others require it? explain the math and pros and cons for customer and his business. I think its about Volume and his reputation. if 10 people cancel last minute in a week, he's still renting to 100 people...still making profit...Jairo is the Amazon of car rentals in Costa. Seriously. You have a good business model...
@@briang2034 if im not mistaken he said deposit due at pickup. There is still a deposit.

Honestly, I watched this because thought I'd get some more info. My understanding is that there is a type of CR mandatory insurance that credit card companies do not cover and that's at least one of the things people get hit with when they pick up a rental car. About how much is that and are there any important factors that go into it (time of year, type of car, etc)? And does Jairo include this in his quotes so that we can be confident in getting a bottom line quote when we make a reservation?

Hey Michael, great post....send me a private message with respect rental cars in CR.....I have a ton of experience, and I am sure that your source is great but, I will fill you in. on my experiences. He is absolutely correct with hidden fees.
