  • For those looking to start up in business as electricians!
I have put this little video together to help those moving into working for themselves.
Full disclaimer this is not the advice of a business coach or guru! It is just the experience and advice from someone who has been a micro business owner for a number of years.
I cover, joining a CPS, insurance, tax, company formation, marketing, CRM, information management and banking!
Hope it might help one or two as a few people have asked

Mark, this is pure Gold. Shame they don't teach any of this wisdom at college when people are training to be a Spark or any other trades. Your mentorship will help the next generation of sparks into the industry. Keep up the great work,

Great video, thinking of coming back to the trade after many years away and hoping to do domestic small works to start with, fault finding and minor works etc, whilst I am not planning to do full rewires or Consumer Board changes (well not initially) I am sure I might get asked to install a new circuit. So I contacted NAPIT and NICEIC for the CPS scheme and found NAPIT to be the better option for domestic at least. One of the stumbling blocks will be having work that that can be inspected for the assessment, I know you mentioned doing work for friends and family etc but I might have to do some free work or rather just charge part of the building control fee with a loss and go through building control for a couple of jobs.
