- Rotten to the core! We knew putting new floors in our floating tiny home was going to be a fair bit of work. But we had no idea just how much! Turns out we has some rot in our floors that we had to take care of. Which means fiberglass work…. but hard work pays off and and ultimately the the floors turn out amazing!

Well, our first refit video in a while, was kinda of a big project, hope you like it!
Ryan many homesteaders are harvesting and they need help from volunteers who reap harvest rewards or money, is their an app for that? : 0 peace
Nice job 👍🍻
It was an accomplishment just to watch all that work.
I came home to find all of my books on the floor!
There is nobody to blame but my shelf ;)
I Hope you're going to keep these up every week in the comments now.
@@jeremiahjahn I will do my best!
Looks like a repair that is both structural and waterproof, well done
Great job whatever work we are not going to the moon 😍
4:15 LOL Is she saying "You break! You break!" haha
Next project on This Old Boat, with Bob Vila, Ryan & Jessica!
...
.
Nice boat, love the style - damn, that is a lot of work.
Lock Down projects part 231!
Great job! I like your attention to detail! "A job worth doing is a job worth doing well" and you nailed it!
I always smelled something in your boat but thought it was my feet so I never brought it up 🤣🤣
When it comes to beautiful and structural fiberglass work, you are the man for the job!
looks SO much better. good job!!!
Ah sweat equity. Superb job.
Well done Ryan. The floor looks great. Jessica must be happy.
WOW! So impressed with this video! That floor looks amazing and you have come so far from when you bought Hona! Excited to see what's to come and how shes going to look! 😎📷⛵😍
Don't you just love that multi tool. It is very nice to use on the boat.
You can forget about the floor after that job! Well done!
You said the chain locker was leaking. Were you able to fix the source of the leak?
Turned out good Jessica will be happy with you Ryan. Lol
Looks good! Good job
Great job
Nice work👍🏻
Love your refit videos, you do a top job every time you attack something. Keep it 🤙🏼🤙🏼
it looks good
Good work. I did my basement floor in about the same color. I know what you mean about sitting on the floor.
Nice work! My back hurts just watching.
Looking awesome! Great job! I did that color in my basement and love it. You can't hurt that stuff
Thanks for sharing, We appreciate seeing the real life experiences your channel has.
Putting the flooring under the flages like that might cause you trouble down the road. LVP swell a lot when it gets warmed by the sun. Pinching it down will cause it to buckle. Your area might be small enough that the amount that it swells won't cause problems. Good job, it looks really good.
This was great! I always enjoy seeing your can-do spirit at work. "Boat repair season" is year-round, though. Cruising season is boat repair season while underway in exotic locations.
Very true!
Nicely done Ryan!!!
Good job that was hard core 👏 👍 💪
The floor turned out great. Love the use of PVC flooring material. Great job.
nice work!
Great Job Ryan! I'm sure the work was worth it!
Mix your thickening agent and your resin before you put in the hardner. For some reason it mixes a lot better.
Your fellow floor warrior thoroughly enjoyed your refit video. Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
Nice solid repair - looks Great.
One tip for the saw I saw on RUclips a few years ago and use all the time: Hold your circular saw’s shoe against the edge of your speed square. If you measure the distance of the blade from the edge, you can even add that measurement to make thing easier. Not only does this make for straighter cuts, it’s also safer since it prevents pinching the blade causing kickback.
Well done, hope you get back to sea soon.
If you dry dock the boat don't forget about the time you hit bottom, i believe you said there was a small crack.. I've seen those before and usually water is absorbed, you'll see if you dry dock keep an eye on it a few days and you'll see.
Hats off to you! Well done!!!!!
Good job sir...
☀️ Sounds like Kira will make a great retailer... "You break it, you BUY IT!!" 😂
😃 WOW!! Just watched thru the end for that Glamour Shot...Big Payoff for all that hard work! Looks phenomenal! Well done, Ryan! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hold your speed square tight to edge of wood and use it as a straight edge for your power saw /carpenter trick.
Nice work! Looks really nice.
Looks fantastic! I just finished laying 1200sqft of hardwood in my home - and it wasn’t moving! Very professional looking job.
That was quite a project!!! I replaced my bilge covers with the same kind of product also and it worked great! So you have the right Idea!!!
Great work! Projects like that are intimidating, and for good reason.
nice job
Great job. That's a lot of work.
We just put in similar final flooring in our home. Works great ‼️ I have faith you will figure it out. ✨✌️✨
Looks good! Good job!
Nice job!
Looks great now, the only thing I would have done differently, is to use foam rather balsa wood or your chosen replacement. Using any type of timber like that is yesterday’s technology. Foam doesn’t rot! Thanks for sharing. 😎🏖🌴☀️🇦🇺
Depending on where you are, you might want to try Coosa Board for replacement of wood. It’s waterproof and strong.
Looks great Ryan, nice job.
Great job, enjoy the channel. Thanks for sharing!
Ryan it looks good your a work horse. Did not catch where the water came from, bridge deck should never see that happen. Fresh water plumbing Oracle condensate maybe.

Nice! We are about to do the same project, but our floors aren't (hopefully) nearly that bad. We were even looking at the same flooring! I was curious about if it would be better to wedge the flooring under or taper the edge to fit against the cabinets. I think I'm going to wedge it. Great video, thank you! I'm looking forward to the rest of the refit. If you make it up to the Chesapeake, let us know!
Looks great 👍
Great video, your daughter is beautiful!
Great video, but 2 questions... 1, How did you get the tongue and groove to engage on the last row AND get it under the fiberglass lip, and 2, did you glue the floating floor to the small pieces of flooring in the hulls?
Great job on the repair! Not a catamaran fan, partly because I don't like boats with wood cored hulls.
Good job. I bet your little stiff and sore. Much respect we're getting it done.
Whew - Over a weeks work in 25 minutes. I thought you said boat projects took forever ( he said tongue in cheek ) Looks great :-)
Nice work! I have replaced floors myself before so definitely feel your pain. The end results looks great!
Geez Ryan I thought my flooring in the house was hard to do. I'm down to my subflooring. Well it's not it's complicated. Thanks for sharing.
Good on ya! Looks great. Can you tell us more about the leak? You mentioned its quite common in this model. It'd be great to find out more from you guys about it.
looking good captain... Aloha
What were you listening to during the cutting? Sounded awesome! haha
Very impressive video, thanks for sharing the entire process, I learned a lot. You did a great job! Did I miss you finding the leak?
Nice!
Brilliant Ryan, that poplar was a terrific out of the box choice! All your work was impressive and spot on perfect, very nice job. Was that flooring Lifeproof? We just used that for a kitchen and 2 bathrooms, same color, we loved it and it is easy to work with. Thanks for the episode!
Great prep work and isn't that always the most important part. My only concerns are; 1, the flooring is meant to be a floating floor and 2, it's definitely not a marine product..... but you're not the first to use it on a boat. It looks great though, (if not particularly boat appropriate visually, more of the overall 'it's our home' affect and I'll be interested to see how it fairs long term. You worked hard and can be proud of the results!
I watched the end again, your decision to put the flooring throughout the boat was a wise one and should serve you well when you sell.
I love boat repair season! I have a question; why did you decide to use little blocks rather than a solid plank?
Thanks for the knowledge, and thanks for posting.
Hi Ryan,The poplar is not rot resistant so hopefully you used a lot of epoxy , the end frame makes no difference in this application..
Marine plywood would have been better if available , but still not as good as a rot proof product like ‘cossa Board’ if you could find it!
You could also even used some ‘plastic deck board ‘ product .
Hope you found the cause of the leak!
Big ugly project nicely done!
Cheers Warren
Man watching all your projects has convinced me I no longer want to buy a project boat. It looks like a continuous nightmare. I would rather be out sailing than fixing a boat all the time.
To save a little money try U.S. Composites for epoxy. They are Florida based company and half the price.
Looks great . Would like to know if you found source of leak
You didn't mentioned if you found the leak.
Cypress
Never rots
Even under water for 200 years
You had said the problem was due to the anchor locker overfilling and leaking into the cabin, causing the rotting. Did you find the place where it was leaking through? Maybe put in a bigger drain in the anchor locker? I'd love to know what you did to remedy it so water doesn't ingress. Also the flooring looks amazing throughout the boat. Great job
Ryan cleaned the anchor locker really really well to make sure it didn’t clog again. :)
Kind of have the same problem. But not the same. Have not fixed it yet.
Very interesting and looks great. Very strange original construction. Maybe I missed it but how did you resolve the leak that allowed the rot. Also is not the plywood very vulnerable to Delamination without being top sealed?
I think I missed that too, where did the water come from and how do you prevent the water from getting in again?
Casey Chan he said it came from the anchor locker!?
I know where the water came from but what did he do to resolve the issue? That is the question.
Did you find/fix the leak? Nice work..
Jessica, what you think of your new floors? Awesome job ryan.
Love them!!
I'm sure you have already made repairs as I am seeing this but I would of used nydacore over balsa and or marine ply nydacore is a honeycomb sheet that you can epoxy
OMG 😱 WOW ‼️ Jason. You do have talent.
Where were you when he was looking for something to fix the core with? LMBO! I am not sure if that is the same stuff I was thinking of, but I was thinking something similar.
Congratulations! You did an awesome job. My question is, did you ever find the leak and if so, did you fix it?
Found a couple likely candidates. We think their might not be a single point of water entry. But if water does end up in the cabin it pools here. Example, if the AC condenser plate overfills or the windows leak a lot during a rainstorm or if the anchor locker drain clogs up with mud and overfills. All of these can lead to water under the floor in the salon.
I don't think we saw the end result of the last renovation!
OMG, Kira is such a little person already! What on earth is she saying!
Great job! You have a full on set of tools! Where do you keep them all on the boat? Any where did you dispose is the rotted stuff?
He’s spreads them around based on frequency of use. the most commonly used ones are in the locker in the cockpit. Less frequently used tools are in safe compartments in the engine rooms or under the floors in buckets.
Im curious to know if your catamaran surveyor found this issue during the haul out and inspection?
He noted the rotten spot on the floor but not the coring rot.
@@jandradventures Thank you Ryan. Where was the water coming in from? I'm looking at a 410 later this month...
replace the rotten balsa with nidacore no more rot
That thumbnail. Had to watch

Where is Arya?
Arya is still here! :)
