Bioactive Gargoyle Gecko Vivarium

- I had requests to do this build years ago, but I didn't have or want a gargoyle gecko. That said I just recently adopted this gecko, which meant that she needed a custom bioactive vivarium.
She was given to me along with an 18x18x24" exoterra. Normally I don't use them, but I know that a lot of you do and I wanted to show you what is possible with this type of tank. Hopefully this gives you some ideas and inspiration for your next build.
Also let me know if there's anything you want more information on when I upload the follow-up video.
Substrate Mix: • Tropical Terrarium Sub...
Plant Prep: • How to Clean and Quara...
I'll get a full list of materials up at a later time, but I linked up all of the ones I consistency get comments about.

Got anyone at Aquashella I'll see you there!
hello sir please Greet me in you next upload. more power!
Are all these plants safe to use for crested geckos too?
Saitama One Punch Man he has a video about his bio active Crested Gecko enclosure, you can check it out if you’re interested. He tells what plants he uses for his cage.
Hi I’m thinking about getting anoles can you make a video about them?
@@travmendoza yes I know. But I was wondering if these plants like the bird nest fern was also safe for cresties
You are the Bob Ross of terrariums, my friend. Keep it up!
Bob Moss.
Freedom Anderson niceee
he's great at making these set ups... but he's not putting "happy little moss bushes, ever so gently, here and there." It shouldn't be that easy to replicate Bob Ross.
Karl Snow he is bob moss
max the aquarists how original
Gorgeous terrarium build, as usual! ❤🙌
Thanks brother!
You two should do a collab
Ant farm terrarium!!
Ya
I am ac fam
Great work, gave me so many ideas for future tank builds! :)
Leopard Gecko Hiiiiiiiii!
Leopard Gecko aren’t his tanks so magnificent :)
Hiiii
The legendary, Leopard Gecko? :o I love Diegos new 80 gallon, it turned out so well!
Such a beautiful tank I aspire to be able to build something like this for my geckos when my budget allows me to!
Feel ya
You’ve inspired me throughout the years to make a variety of different terrariums, vivariums, pauladariums and aquariums. Thank you
This is so beautiful, I love how you make it look so natural and earthy. I bet your home just looks amazing with all those terrariums, vivariums, and fish tanks. So much green!! You should do a tour of your home. I'd watch for sure.
This is why my red eye tree frog vivarium is so good because I watch you😂
Finallyyy I have been waiting for this video since you first introduced her to us!
Amazing work as always!
You should have way more views for the talent and amount of work you dedicate to your creations! It’s the first time I say this to a youtuber! You inspired me to build terrariums for my geckos and beardies, all the best to you Tanner!
When you realize that a gecko lives in a better “room” than you do.
Tfw no kindly giant to take care of you
A friend of mine just recommended your channel to me and YES! I am so stoked to see someone has made a bio-active enclosure for a gargoyle!! I really hope to re-do mine's home especially now that I have seen this.
Definitely the inspiration I needed right now, I'm upgrading my crestie from her already big tank to another one that is almost twice the height and I can't wait to start building it!!!
I love that with the coco fiber “ cloth” siliconed to the side walls,
Great video also,
I love it!!🥰 Love from Malaysia here~ Hope can see Asian Forest Scorpion tank setup!❤️
Im coming down stairs dude, one sec.
This one has always been in and it still is my favorite of all your videos because it's the one that shows so much variety and ease when it comes to this stuff it's really inspiring
The hard scape on this one is wonderful, perfect for a New Caledonian gecko
Very new to your channel, I’ve never made or knew I’d been interested in the scapes you make, I don’t keep reptiles etc, but I love your channel; it’s relaxing and beautiful to watch. Thanks, Linds, Edinburgh, Scotland 🏴
these builds always blow me away
Btw, boiling cork bark smells awesome, so worth doing anyway. I personally steam them in the oven for one hour at 300F (I add water if more is needed). Smells wonderful
my only regret is I'm running out of builds to watch, I guess I'll have to watch them all again lol, Love your channel, I've learned so much!
AWWWWW YIISSSSSSSS
Haven't watch the whole thing but I bet it'd be cool
Edit: ITS AWESOME!
The Malay Menagerie Spoiler, it’s great.
@@whisperingdragon4194 I think they finished watching this way before u commented 🤣
Why didn't you have to make any modifications to include a drain like in your video in which you convert a ten gallon aquarium into a vertical vivarium? I'm wanting to get into this hobby and have recently purchased most everything that I need to get started but am so confused on why some things are necessary sometimes, but not always. I'm obsessed with your channel, along with AntsCanada, and Exotic's Lair. You guys are great and your videos, while entertaining, are certainly educational.
He’s more of an expert than I am, but I believe with these kinds of geckos you don’t necessarily NEED a bulkhead or drain or anything because there won’t be too much water at the bottom. Some people will also use a turkey baster to get excess water out if they need to
Thank you for doing a gecko build so full of vines and branches! Too often we see planted gecko vivariums that don't have nearly enough hiding or climbing spots for geckos. Great build as usual! :)
The way you made the vines is brilliant. Great build as usual.
I am always amazed at how much stuff you can cram into an enclosure, and at the end it always turns out amazing. you are an inspiration! keep up the good work.
Looks a lot like a crested! So cute!
Wow, that looks really good!
Just seen this video very helpful. I had thought of using hot glue to temporarily hold things in place before I foamed them in but had always thought the glue might crack the glass because of the heat.. Never too old to learn something new.
It's so cool! Worth the wait. She will be very happy in her new home ✌
Maybe a video about pet safe plants? I have birds, and finding safe, non-toxic plants for my home has been a bit of a challenge. How does one know what's safe to use with different species? Anyway beautiful build as usual, you have such an eye for detail! Very inspiring, can't wait to see more!
Dude, I was wondering how to build a vivarium out of my 18 by 18 by 24, and then I saw your video pop up. I have a gargoyle, and I love your videos, Keep it up dude, you're great at what you do
Get some Madagascan day geckos! Giant, standings or gold dust you can’t go wrong!
As beautiful as Day Geckos are, and one of my favorites, they are definitely more of a "show" gecko, especially compared to Gargs or Crested. The latter are far more handleable, though I hear the Neon Day Geckos are safer to handle if they don't run from ya lol. But yeah, Day Geckos are beautiful.
@@hi_tech_reptiles my favorite female standings day gecko lived 22 years and was perfectly content being hand fed. But I never understood the obsession with handling reptiles for kicks, it was something I never ever did. You build a beautiful vertical tank and enjoy the living art spectacle.
These! 😎 you taught us years ago how to make manage and take care of our first tanks years ago! It's great to see how many subscribers you have. How far you have come. Really awesome. You are like the most intelligent person on all of this and helped get us started with all our creatures. Again I wish you the absolute best! 😎
Stunning! Fabulous set up.
You are an artist! I loooove watching you do your setups and it's so relaxing too! Maybe tranquil is the word? Either way, it looks amazing can't wait until your gecko moves in! 🌿🌱🦎💚
Wow this is such a great amalgamation of your instructional build videos. Well done Tanner, you keep improving!
I have that same setup. I turned mine into Paludarium for my tree frogs
Edit: Who in their right mind would give this Video a thumbs down?
This is like How It’s Made but more interesting haha
I was waiting for this one for a while! It looks awesome nice job Tanner.
Hopefully it was worth the wait.
I love your designs, they are like living works of art. Great job!
Nice vivarium. Love the layout and design. I like how you can use coco fibre for just about anything. Very versatile. Thanks for sharing
Wow, beautiful enclosure
This is a really nice build! You never cease to amaze me. And I’m sure your gecko loves it.
Also it was great meeting you at aquashella! You were so kind in person.
Pleasure to meet you as well!
I've been watching your stuff man...its super relaxing
Amazing set up!!!! Lucky Gargoyle Gecko!!!! ❤️
If I was a gecko, I'd be happy as a pig in mud living there. It's gorgeous.
Heck even if I wasn’t a gecko I’d be blessed to live in there
I love these videos so much! I think it's always 800% better for me and the animal(s) when the setup is very naturalistic and aesthetically pleasing. Well done!
Thank you so much!
Your gecko is going to love it. It is beautiful. Great job!!!
Beautiful!
You are an artist
Great job making this vivarium. It looks really pretty, and I'm sure that your gargoyle gecko will love it.
Wow, that's a great terrarium Tanner! I love how you created a dark and dense undergrowth with lots of hiding places and a canopy drenched in sunlight. Your Gargoyle is spoiled =)
Every video I watch I’m just a little more amazed
Actually might be buying a gargoyle gecko and this helped to try make its enclosure look good
been waiting for an update on this cute lil guy!
Great work! I can't wait to do a large setup with orchids, ferns and bromeliads for my gargoyle geckos.
Thank you so much for listening to your viewers! I want to do something similar but for dart frogs. This gave great inspiration for that future project. I’m surprised you haven’t included dart frogs to your animal room yet.
I’ve been waiting for this for ages!!!
U never fails to surprise me. Always a great job done!
I've been waiting for this! I bet the gecko will love how many hiding spots there are. Cool to see that you still made something awesome even with the exoterra front blocking the view.
I really didn't want to use the tank tbh, but I also think it turned out well considering the less than ideal viewing area.
@@SerpaDesign maybe you could disguise it with a thin peice of wood or something? Burn her name into it or make it look more natural with hardscape materials
your projects never disappoint :)
I wonder if i ever get tired of watching you creating worlds. 👍
Hopefully not!
Can’t wait to see the gecko enjoy its new home.
Love these bio active setups, I find some so busy though, I’d want to be able to find and watch my babies, so if I did one they’d certainly have hiding areas, but not so much that it decreases the amount of their space to move around or so I’d never see them
so a neat home for the gecko
Tanner, fantastic build, as always! I gotta get you to use CLR instead of Barkeeper's Friend for calcium removal, though. CLR is safe for human use and won't micro-abrade the glass.😀👍
Such an amazing build!
Just discovered your channel and I LOVE your content! Keep it up!
You are an artist Taner! Soo soo Beatiful! Cheers from Argentina 🇦🇷 mate
CLR is a better option for clearing off the buildup the glass. That stuff works awesome.
That’s going to be one happy gecko! I used to have a pair of tokay geckos, they’re awesome geckos if you have ever get another 🦎
Hey Tanner , can you explain to me how you just plant things into the expanding foam or other areas that have no substract? How are those plants going to get nutrients and thrive? Thanks.
your videos have me wanting a bio active viv. and this little guy might just be the ticket.
I never knew you could make the vines yourself. Way better than buying them at pet supply places
These are my favourite videos!
This channel makes me so angry, why do you only have 370k subscribers?
You've inspired me to create so much!
Loving these videos, they are so relaxing to watch. Waiting for a part 2 of this video.
Also have a request for a tarantula planted tera.
Imagine being his wife and going to see what is cookin in the kitchen and u see.... bark 😂 love this channel
Orange iosopods looked so cool
Gorgeous and wonderful vivarium. Thank you for sharing, my friend.
always so intricate!!
I am absolutely enamored with gargoyle geckos, they're going to be my very first pet reptile, and your videos serve as my guideline for crafting her an enclosure that is not only unique, but stunning to look at. Absolutely fantastic work here, even with an exo terra! (I'm not fond of their field of view either, bleh)
Wonderful as usual, thanks again for your videos 👍🤗
amazing as always! i love it!
Another great build, what a peaceful place for your gecko ^^ Keep it up ;)
This gecko is living the dream
Literally the only thing I’d do differently is maybe painting the glass before sticking all that stuff to it so the back looks better if exposed
I have no intention of ever building anything you make but my God your work is so amazing and relaxing! you are drastically under rated not sure how i found you but by far one of the most interesting pages i have found in awhile! that being said... can you make more underwater builds?!?
Super late to the party, amazing looking build.
I Love what you do. Thank you for the inspiration.
Oh yes I waiting for this! I have Gecko too so thanks for Inspitation i will change his terrarium 😃
do you still have your gecko?
I recently made a terrarium in a 1.5L jar, it looked quite cool and I even had some isopods in with a millipede (Lithobiidae, it was in with the moss I brought in), everything was going great until I noticed one change in the isopods behaviour. It started to climb the Common haircap moss i had planted in the back and would sit there for hours and then when it got dark they would rummage around eat some stuff then go back down into the bottom as they created lots of many tunnels and escapes which were very cool to look at from the side.
I woke up today to find all 6 isopods dead and the millipede dead with some wriggling parasites near their corpses almost like they wanted to be eaten. I was actually quite upset, rechecked after work now and those small worms are gone (they were skinny and white), about 4 of them had disappeared into the soil so now my terrarium is littered with corpses and mysterious parasites hidden inside.
Have you ever had a similar experience?
Wow great build
You're an artist
So excited for this, I'm doing a bioactive viv for my gargoyle gecko too!!!
You really like expanding foam
if you havent already, id love for you to make a video all about the grow lights you use and/or how to make sure your plants are getting enough light in the tanks
If anyone was wondering the feet and toe pics portion is at 6:22. Was a solid 6.3 from available view.
