I was 8 years old then and i remember cars driving on frozen lakes in Belgium :). We also took the temperature each morning in school with temps flirting with -20 .
It's interesting how large parts of America had a similar winter. December 1984 was exceptionally mild at the time, particularly for southern states-the warmest on record at the time. Things swinged rapidly in January 1985 which was generally a remarkably cold month with record low temperarures between the 19th and 22nd. Temperatures fell to record cold levels. Chicago dropped to -33C, Central Park down to -19C, Atlanta got down to -22C and even Miami got down to 1C. The only difference between us and them is I think the winter fizzled out for them in February 1985.
I think winter did come back in February and March of 85 how remember this Gav is because i turned 9 on the 18th of March 85 and it snowed on my birthday just as it did this year on my birthday.
I remember it well i was 8 going on 9 in the winter of 85. We had heavy snow here in Ireland my Dad took photos of the snow we had at least 25 to 30cm of snow. Ever since i have being interested in the weather.

I was 16 at the time!!
seeing similar weather to autumn 1984. Autumn 1984 and Autumn 2022 are twins.
