    I am an American who left the USA and retired to Nicaragua at the age of 50 in 2014. I absolutely love Nicaragua and I don't have plans to ever leave.
    Great informative video for those planning to visit Nicaragua.

    Years ago the director of a Spanish school in Costa Rica told me that Nicaragua was more beautiful, just didn't have the infrastructure for tourism.

      @@tetungdasi9809 planes are starting to come in. Most places are open (hotels, restaurants) and covid cases are way down. I would still wait tho. Covid is still around so maybe come in 2021

    Nicaragua is my dream. I saved for a few years (phd student) to be able to go until 2018. I had to change my plans and went to Thailand (also a beautiful wonderful country) but I cannot wait to be in Nicaragua.

    My beautiful country! I am so happy to see tourism start to pick up! Dont forget to try coffee as well as cigars. Nicaragua is one of the top exporters of both!

    Dont forget the coffee there in Nicauagua! I work with some people from there and they're so super nice. Cafe las Flores is my favourite coffee from there but there's also Casa de Cafe that's also super good. The street food I could do nothing but eat off of the street food. Its so good. And in business areas there, there's a lot more street food to be had, and a lot less beans and rice. While I do like the beans and rice... it can get to be a bit much with every meal. Even the locals I know get a little overdone on the beans and rice.

    In the 70s, I traveled around Mexico and Guatemala by “chicken bus.” It was a great experience for a young adventurer in her 20s. It would probably kill me now, lol.

    15:28 - flor de caña = cane flower… this is probably "sugar water" which is what they have here in Medellin Colombia, but here they call it "agua panela"… panela is this organix (soft) brown sugar… great stuff… with some lime juice (jugo de limon).

    For AGES I didn't drink the water but December 3 years ago $$$ was tight & I had 3 days to run an "experiment" when I was in San Juan del Sur so I tried it & to this day - I've NEVER had a problem in Rivas & SJDS.

      Also thanks for all the great info lol - the heat sounds like Belize. I try to tell people how very hot it gets and it’s hard to understand till you’re there and feeling it.

      Wolters World that totally happened to me our first time in BZ - I thought if I hustled FASTER to get to the next shady spot on the beach, I’d be able to cool down then. Did I have water with me? No. Did I cool down under the trees? Also no. Learn from my mistake, people - heat on normal days in Central America is no joke.

    I'm thinking of leaving Costa Rica for Nicaragua, ( I've been there many times ) I want to know about the virus precautions, whether you can be a perpetual tourist as I did here for years. I plan on heading for Esteli area.

    Any suggestions on a nice city with cool temps….cooler the better ! Matagalpa, Jinotega…any others to check out as a possible retirement city ? Also need high speed internet. Thx !

    And there is a awesome hotel the one in front of the airport it has awesome rooms and it gives breakfast and dinner there is like a party and you can go in the back of a truck cool place right and they sell coconut water and lot’s of fruit mostly mango

    2nd gen Nicaraguan. I think youve convinced me to possibly take my family to the Homeland. My dad fled due to the conflicts during the 70s. He was handed a pistol by my grandfather and told to flee. Still gonna take his advice and not name-drop our family name if I go.

    I visited San Juan Del Sur back in 2003. There was a significant US expat community there at the time. Is this still the case?
    I would be a bit concerned visiting these days with the number of political prisoners and international criticism of Ortega's human rights record. The US State Department as of summer 2023 listed Nicaragua as level 3-reconsider travel.

      You need a Covid test to get into the country and one to leave. The US may have some requirements for returning to the US.

    How strict are they on the you informal/you formal conjugation? if it's a stranger and not a close friend/relative, it's como esta, not estas, I know that from high school Spanish.

      Yes Nicaragua is open for international tourism. I'm in Nicaragua now and this week I've met people that have come from the US and from Europe.

      We've been living in Nicaragua for the last year and have had no issues with safety. It's the safest country in Central America.

      I live near of a hotel and i can tell you there's not visiters right there

      Everything is open now. Many places were closed at the time do your comment but everything is open, you still have to use your mask in stores and closed places. Restaurants let you take your mask off once seated. Bars don't require you to use them. Cases are way down and planes are coming in again

      @@GnarlyBroMr yes, only 1 airlines working tho, but I've been to Granada and San Juan del Sur a Couple of weeks ago and there were many tourists. Not packed but a lot. Don't know if they go here by land from Costa Rica or if they got stuck here cause of the virus.

      It's a lot quieter than normal, but there are still tourists coming in. We're currently on Ometepe Island and there have generally been only a couple of other guests if that at the places that we've stayed at.
