Americans get so little time off anyway, and companies still expect them to be available. I am in the UK and if I'm off I'm off. Even my managers tell us who to contact if they are away. In nine years I've had to contact the manager once, and that was to inform them someone had died at work. More as a heads up for when they returned so they were aware and didn't say something they would rather not in light of the person who had died.
Another thing that needs to be addressed; several companies provide a certain number of paid sick days. Several employees were out sick on Monday and management was quick to send out an email Monday night expressing what an inconvenience it was to the company and our co-workers. I asked if they prefer I come in sick, coughing, sneezing with fever, blowing my nose every 30 seconds & pass along my illness to everyone else. Of course, the answer was "no" but they had to again state what a burden it was to the co-workers that showed up for work. Again, I said, "You response seems to indicate that you want me to come to work sick and make everyone else in office sick". I worked thru the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years holidays, the cold weather is wicked, some of us actually get sick from time to time. And no, this wasn't a mental health day. I was sick with the flu for 4 straight days beginning Saturday morning around 5 am. It's so annoying when corporate tries to guilt trip us when we use our sick days when we are actually sick.
The problem with being sick isn't just making everyone else sick. It's also the brain fog that goes along with it. Being in the office working while sick means you're more likely to make a serious mistake because of the sickness as well as being generally less productive. I just don't get management here. They want to guilt trip you into coming in while you're sick, but productivity is likely to be half what it normally is and also has a high incidence of mistakes.
In New Zealand paid sick days are a legal requirement. The minimum for a full time employee is ten, with some companies providing additional stress leave and "duvet days" as well
With regard to laziness and being able to get work done with working hours ... Frank Bunker Gilbreth and his wife Lillian were pioneers in the "motion study" field. They would go into factories & speed up production by reducing tasks into component parts, them eliminating unnecessary movement. They also had 12 children and the family was the subject of the original "Cheaper by the Dozen" book in 1948, I believe. I want someone so lazy that he won't even scratch himself. That person will have his work area set up in the most efficient manner."

I had one job where a guy was put over me who had no concept of prioritization. This guy would be calling me at all hours. I eventually used my cell phone's blocking feature to block his calls between 6pm and 10am.

Years ago, I worked as a church secretary. On the day before my vacation started, the Pastor asked for my itinerary "in case he needed something." My family and I took camping vacations; cell phones were still science-fiction at that time. We were camping outside of DC for the week. I told the Pastor, "If you really need me, call the White House. If Ronnie (Ronald Reagan) doesn't know where I am, oh well...I guess you'll just have to figure whatever it is out yourself." It was the beginning of the end of my almost 10 years as not only church secretary, but also Council Secretary, newsletter editor, Women's Guild officer, and several other volunteer positions. I moved on to a job that paid better than $6,000 a year more, in a much less stressful position.

I would get to work early simply because it was a very long drive and I needed to leave myself wiggle room. So with my ten minutes I’d make some hot chocolate or a cup of tea, grab a snack (it was 5AM), and then clock in closer to actual time. Boss lady knew I was there, and she never said boo. I did have truckers try to get out on their jobs early, but always hollered back “Yo guys I don’t start till five, I know y’all don’t work for free either” good guys, always laughed and waited.
I used to create reports that had to be reviewed by my manager 3 times a week and sent out by cob, i would have to wait until she had approved and then send them out myself. My official finish time was 5. I would get them to her in ample time, but she wouldn't start checking them until 17.15. I noticed earlie on that people that are "extremely buisy " usually get their way. .... so buisy... buisy buisy buisy. ... and recruit people to help you. They will stop bothering you.
Not to defend the boundary crosser, but... I feel that, because their boundaries are often crossed by those in charge, the behavior trickles down. Those people tend to end up in situations where they've "overachieved" for the higher ups so often that they think their coworkers are doing less when, in fact, _they_ should be doing less. It's like their backs are against the wall. I was in that situation before, and I did that to a coworker. Definitely wasn't right for me to do so, but it took some therapy to realize what was going on. After that, I stayed in my lane and started saying "no" more often. Those employees need to recognize their own worth before they start judging someone else's.
4:45. Well, they sure as poop aren't based on performance. And, given that KPIs for arbitrary and superficial metrics typically ARE taken into consideration, I would say they are based on obedience (or "compliance") as much as on performance.
Australia has just passed a no contact law that makes it illegal for employers to contact employees outside of working hours or when they are on holidays or sick leave. Having a strong union movement keeps politicians and employers in line and gives the power to the workers.

And unpaid labor is the biggest theft perpetrated by the rich: • Every year, millions of workers across the country are victims of the scourge of wage theft-meaning these workers are not paid the full wages to which they are legally entitled. • Nearly $700 million in stolen wages were recovered for workers by the U.S. Department of Labor from 2021 to 2023.
I had a dream, that my former job, that I left going on 2 years ago now, contacted me, wanting me to come in to work. I literally had to remind myself when I woke up, you don't work there, and they will not be trying to get you back
I'm glad I've retired ...when I was in retail management I had to fight constantly to get days off and holidays. I asked my area manager on at least 10 occasions for two days holiday I was owed. In the end I got half a day ..few months later I walked out and quit soon after .
I used to log in at 7:45, then walk away to get my coffee final bathroom break, stare out the window at the birds. At exactly 7:59 I would slowly walk to my desk and open my window. The number of clients and bosses get ticked off at me for that was just amazing. I remember ONE lunch, I was at my desk working on private. We had blinds that come down, one customer actually opened my blinds and demand I opened. I looked him in the eye and said I will open in exactly 54, no make that 55 minutes. He waa furious. It's not just bosses who can be complete jerks. Customers can be too. Just remember everyone, 99% of us have bosses, even most CEOs have a Board that they have to report to so treat everyone how you want to be treated including staff at places you go to. You do not know how a persons life is going.

Unless claiming they are in a meeting is an ongoing problem for this coworker or the team in general and you have to get stricter about it, power tripping like this isn't productive and is more to feel superior
i have my own way to keep track of records, project progress, etc. which she told me was a waste of time and pointless........ which will soon help me track much bigger projects for the company in about a month 😊 toodle-oo!
Use the same strategies. Your work hours at home are the same as in office. If you get your work done in 7 hours, take a coffee break and randomly type something from a book on your computer and proofread it. Key strokes will be correct for variety and pattern. Or get a jump on next day’s work.
I enjoy working from home with traffic it is a little over an hour round-trip for my commute compared to if I was to go into the office I get up 10 minutes prior start a pot of coffee and still login on time plus it saves a lot of money in gas and wear and tear on my vehicle not having to commute daily and at the end of the day, I shut the door to the bedroom I am using as an office and work completely goes away.
@ as someone who’s commute averages out to 1 1/2 hrs (at least) a day, I totally get the allure. But I also know myself…not only do I look at my home as my refuge and don’t like the idea of my job being in my home (even virtually), I totally lack the discipline it takes to work from home.
I wish I had seen this years ago. I had a boss who would dump her projects on me the day of the board meeting. If I tried to blast through them I was worthless because there were mistakes and if I couldn't finish them I was a flake who shouldn't have my job. It was horrible on my mental health.
Most of our States do not have many social protections, or workers rights, so unfortunately most of us are afraid of being fired - becoming destitute/homeless. You can’t afford an attorney if you can’t save enough to hire one.
My husband's office called while we were out of town over Christmas and convinced him to log in and get on a call with them to solve some problem. It was so annoying. Fortunately, he retires this spring. Won't be a problem anymore.
My boss once said to me "we all have to pull on the same rope" when we had very work intesive and short time frame project. I responded with "nah I am going home an pull on my rope. *10 sec. pause* A lot."
As a note, if I'm sleeping and I dream about work I will be counting this as overtime!

@adelucas4824 It makes sense if you take the bus since you won't have exact control over when you get there since you're relying on someone else. But I'd bet you still don't call the people who get there right on time lazy. She also had her own car

As soon as the word laziness is used twice, that's the end of the call.
I noticed earlie on that people that are "extremely buisy " usually get their way.
.... so buisy... buisy buisy buisy. ... and recruit people to help you. They will stop bothering you.
I'd expect to paid double the amount if I was forced to work on my time off
Love this! ❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂
I used to work with people like that
If these people aren’t my supervisor I’d be laughing at them.
🥂😃Too Daloo😂
Your videos are fun. But it took me some time, to figure out why you always bring up a cup with the text UNT took me some time to notice the black handle. 😂
I want such one for annoying meetings, and colleagues
Laziness is a capitalist myth
And unpaid labor is the biggest theft perpetrated by the rich:
• Every year, millions of workers across the country are victims of the scourge of wage theft-meaning these workers are not paid the full wages to which they are legally entitled.
• Nearly $700 million in stolen wages were recovered for workers by the U.S. Department of Labor from 2021 to 2023.
Co workers need to back off.
This is funny! I get terse with my employees when they login during PTO - PTO means you are out.
Boundaries like yeah right what are you doing in my state?
Tell your oligarch boss, your side gig, is my main gig😅who is more direct and thorough?
Toodaloo......😂😂😂
Ahhhh, the good ol' corner of Nunya and Notchur in the business district
Love ur work and it reminds me to respect my time as mine please keep up the amazong and i spiring work, also the funeral one oh gods u where so much better then I would have said there would have been he'll fire at who ever is above the person cause 40 mins for a funeral oh he'll nah!!
Awesome 😎
This is a big reason I wouldn’t like working from home. Once you let the vampire in, it’s almost impossible to get it out.
10/10 no notes 💖
Should be titled “when management doesn’t respect YOUR time”
This gave me anxiety, but the good kind, you know, just in case, brain is like "write it all down!"
On a side note, do people like this exist?!
I wish I had seen this years ago. I had a boss who would dump her projects on me the day of the board meeting. If I tried to blast through them I was worthless because there were mistakes and if I couldn't finish them I was a flake who shouldn't have my job. It was horrible on my mental health.
Love it!!!! Wish I had the balls
7 pm on Friday? 😂😂😂😂😂 😂
All this shit is illegal in most civilised countries outside the US
Most of our States do not have many social protections, or workers rights, so unfortunately most of us are afraid of being fired - becoming destitute/homeless. You can’t afford an attorney if you can’t save enough to hire one.
My husband's office called while we were out of town over Christmas and convinced him to log in and get on a call with them to solve some problem. It was so annoying. Fortunately, he retires this spring. Won't be a problem anymore.
The pockets of the rich are lined with the worker’s unpaid labor.
It took me far too long to notice the mug.
My boss once said to me "we all have to pull on the same rope" when we had very work intesive and short time frame project. I responded with "nah I am going home an pull on my rope.
*10 sec. pause*
A lot."
Holidays and vacation are double time pay with a minimum 2 hour increment. This includes any time you are asking me to checkin
Too real
I feel related 😢
Notice none of these are bosses just coworkers
Thank goodness my working environment is not like this, because I would have been sacked many times.
