    This looks awesome, but I'm not thrilled that the floors are cardboard... that being said, it would be nice if, late they put out some add-ons... different floor layouts, maybe a roof, or new floors all together!

    Thanks for showing us this tower Goblin. My youngest son who is 7, said his character wanted a nice home of his own. His lengthy character back story involves his character wanting a home of his own that is easily defended since his family's village was raided. I think this would do nicely!

    Thoughts while watching:
    1-Holy cow that packaging is a lot bigger than I initially expected.
    2-Looks very modular and easy to build, I'm glad they took that into consideration.
    3-And I thought the packaging was big!
    4-Two towers!!! I wish I had that kind of money.
    5-Goodness that terrain looks great, and I keep getting surprised by the towers scale.
    6-I can't run 250 dollars since I don't know if I have a tower fight coming up yet. But if the BBEG fight is in a tower....
    7-I do want one though.

    Cardboard? Eh... That's a lot of money for something that's partly made of cardboard. That's not going to hold up well. They did that with their Ebberon ship to. It looked janky there. Everything else looks great though, so I never get why they go with the cardboard.

    It is pretty cool but you can get the Dwarven Forge Painted Watch Tower set for a little more money($286) and the quality and paint job is vastly better and pretty similar in size. $250 for a tower w/ cardboard floors and a "so so" paint job is a little crazy. I think wizkids is pricing this product a little too high. Their Yawning Portal set coming out in April looks amazing but it looks like it may have cardboard as well for $350. That's a really big investment for a product that may not hold up.

    I really think they missed the mark with this one. They should've made it more customizable. Ie. A basic 3 lvl tower. And sold separately additional lvls and different smaller sets to change up the look and layout. Also that money could go a lot further to making a campaign better than just a singular set piece (3d printer, many other minis, game sound packages, manuals.) And unfortunately no physical tabletop piece can capture the truly epic nature of the immense towers presented in dnd. Wish they wouldve put their efforts into other minis tbh.

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  3 года назад +2

      I hope that the WarLock Tile system will enable them to make more customizable terrain going forward. Being able to slot things in with the dungeons, town sets, tower, bridge, etc would be extremely nice. -T

    Having bought items like this before/3d printed also, the cardboard will eventually start warping as it is cardboard. You can be as careful as you can with it but subpar material, eventually you will have problems with it. The plastic has been shipped out warped in some cases therefore not fitting together. Item needs to be checked before being sent out at that price. Pieces missing and so forth also. Otherwise looks great but if I were to buy it I will certainly 3d print parts for it and make it that much better and fire the cardboard. Maybe look around and augment other items to it and print them too. In Canada that piece is running for almost $350 and I certainly will be shopping around.

    Massive and astonishing
    !!! I have a question though: Wizkids' WarLock and Dwarven Forge's floor tiles have the same
    height? I have the impression that, juxtaposed to each other, you spot a little gap since Wizkid's tiles are lower and that is going to create a visible "step" between the two sets. I am a great supporter of dungeon sets in Italy and Spain, and I would appreciate a clarification to my doubts ^_^ thanks, good job and stay safe!

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  3 года назад

      Hi Gabriele! Yes, the WarLock tiles are a few milimeters shorter than Dwarven Forge. The warlock tiles are about 3/4 of the height of DF. So there will be a tiny step there, but it may be small enough to ignore or to incorporate into your description if the characters are moving from one section of a dungeon to another. Thanks for the question! -Theo

    • @TheGallantGoblin

  • @dennisthered
    @dennisthered 3 года назад

    I feel for $250 there should be more options for variability. Why not include more cardboard floors so they all could be solid or have a whole in the middle and be either stone or wood for each? How about holes where the stairs are instead of printed stairs? Why not include some additional traditional battlements for the top of the tower so it doesn't always have to feature the wizards? These are simple things that could have made this set much more fun and versatile. Especially for $250.

    I think the top of the tower bugs me, I feel like I would have liked it more if they were standard crenelations versus the statues. I also think that $250 is a pretty high price for something that has cardboard floors (I know that MSRP is probably not going to be the true price of the product) but I wouldn't spend more then like $150 - $180 on something like that personally. For $400 (only $150 more then the MSRP of this tower) I can get a DF tower painted (albeit a bit smaller, but still a tower at 28mm scale).

      The epix haven freestanding or corner towers are about an inch and a half shorter than this tower. Also the diameter is less. This tower is bigger for sure compared to epix haven. Epix was neat stuff but good gamers don't necessarily make good business people.

    Shame they put such unique features like the figures for crenellation. It should have been more generic with options to customize...like more realistic crenellation which could be traded out for optional figure-crenellation. It could even be sold separately. Wizkids could have made the actual tower a bit cheaper, increasing sales, and made more money offer extra customizable parts...even having parts to create the towers from those modules cited in the video.

    Honestly, as sad as it is that I have to say it, this is a cool tower, but WAY too pricy and too specific to be useful.
    Dont get me wrong, there are uses for it and it looks great, but its a hard ask for 250$. Sure, its a bit adaptable, but only the full setup looks right. So it isn't really customizable, its more or less just able to not look completely bad, if not assembled fully. And the issue is, it doesn't look like any tower seen in an adventure. Van Richtens tower looks very different, the tower of Tsolenka pass looks somewhat similiar but still different, the ruined tower in storm kings thunder? Also different. Basicly, this probably will only serve as a tower in your own campaign and not in a module or for an encounter you planned in a pre-written adventure that isn't part of said pre-written adventures regular story. It looks too specific to be some generic tower and I could continue the misery until the end of days. This is pretty much a very expensive set piece, with one big flaw: Its way too big for a standard encounter.
    Even if I remove the wizard statues, even if I rearrange stuff, thats still a massive circular tower, that is rather distinct. It cant really stand in for some old tower on the road. Thats a landmark people know stuff about. Is it cool to have? Sure. But its also great to own a bunch of dungeon tiles and build my own tower in the dimensions I wish it to be in. What if I want a 4 sided tower? What if I want a different roof? This is basicly a set in stone setpiece. That bridge is very modular, but this? This is just one big tower, with not much you can do.
    For 250$, that simply isn't enough for me. I mean, thats a ton of cash, for a cheaply made tower, all in grey, without actual resin floors or real stairs. This isn't handpainted, this isn't very elaborate in colour. I love the design, but 250$ is way too much for what you get. Icons of the realms is always expensive, but if I can get a full case of minis, for only twice the price, I'll take the 80+ miniatures, I'll regularly use. For example, rather than buying this to have a somewhat similiar looking set piece for Curse of Strahd, I can just buy all the NPC minis that are on the market for this campaign for less. Same company, better way to spend the money. Or how about buying the warlock tiles set, with rounds. I can just build myself the floors I need - paid about half the price and can give it any shape I want. See the issue?
    This is an awesome wizards tower, I can see 10 different campaign ideas just centered around it! But for that much money, thats a hard ask. I mean, I can buy 5 campaign books for that. Or about 25 unpainted miniature-packs from wizkids, each usually containing 2 minis. Thats 50 minis! To warrant such a buy, I'd need to make a campaign, that has my players regularly visit this tower. Maybe its their home base? Maybe its a magical library and the parties wizard is friends with the librarian who turns out to be the BBEG? 250$ is too much to ask, even if thats my end fight map. I couldn't bring myself to pay so much money, for something I can easily 3d-print much better and for a lot less money. Especially if its just for one fight. Its absurd.
    Also, storage is a huge issue with this. Thats a big box. You cant have that just lieing around. And out of the bkx the tower is too big and it would get dusty. Its overall impractical.
    In conclusion: For this thing to be worth the cost, you'd need to use it a ton. And the awe is lost pretty soon, if it is brought to the table often. I think they should have tone a smaller, more generic, tower for about 50$ to 60$. But this? This is just obscene. So as much as I like the product, I cant recommend it for that price. 80$ to 100$ would be fine for it though.

    I have been collecting WizKids miniatures for a few years and have almost every dungeons and dragons / pathfinder miniature they have released including the fallen star ship and bridge set. This tower is a huge letdown. The circle of mages top looks wonky and out of place, it also makes the tower unique so it would be hard to reuse for other locations. I have all the Wizkids 4d terrain systems but this is one I'll have to pass on and go with dwarven forge instead.

    Ive got all the new dragons so far (and most of the rest are already pre-ordered). I've bought the Falling Star Sailing Ship and the Eberron Sky Coach. Have an entire case of Fangs and Talons pre-ordered... so Im not just being a miser when I say this tower is overpriced and I'll be passing on this. Sad, because I was really excited about it when I saw the prototype images almost a year ago. Not even mad about the cardboard floors, but it just looks tacky and cheap. Castle Greyskull from the 80s had a better paintjob than this does and was way more sturdy. This thing, on the other hand, kept coming apart as Theo was trying to assemble it and it kept looking like it would fall apart again if not moved super securely. For THAT price tag ($250 MSRP), I expected a WAY better paint job and more heft and weight. Everything wobbled and again... that paint job is disgusting. Seeing it next to the Dwarven Forge really didnt do it any favors. The very simple DF dry-brushing looked 1000x better than Wizkid's spotty airbrush. They missed the mark on this in so many ways.
