“This is an interesting one, because the energy is pretty high, but the lyrics are exploring some darker things. It was written at a time where I was going through seasonal depression, which I’ve never really experienced before. I came in to the studio and didn’t want to write anything happy (laughs). Zakk [Cervini], our producer, was playing with this idea of a fast song, and it struck me that, ‘This isn’t where I am mentally right now.’ But it ended up being a really interesting dichotomy working on a song that was really energetic and full-speed-ahead, but contrasting what I was feeling at the time. The mood just manifested into a song about getting better and pulling yourself through it by way of music. It’s about finding yourself in a crowded room at a concert and feeling better, and also really putting the effort into feeling better. By the time we were listening back to it, I was like, ‘Wow, I feel lighter having spoken to these feelings.’” -Alex Gaskarth (on Kerrang)

After two years it still holds up. I can’t decide between SWIR or this tbh. Both are exceptional albums. I really love the production value on WUS so I think it might give it the edge for me.

i've been a fan of them since 2012 and this is such an excellent return to their old sound. i really enjoyed lyr and their dabbling in alternative, and this feels like it brings all the best influences from that back into the classic pop punk atl sound. so fucking good.
