Great to see Richard Roeper! He was a HUGE boost to me when I was looking for someone to give me a quote for my Gene Wilder bio. A smart critic and nice guy! Cheers, Richard!

I enjoyed the hell out of Dune 2 and plan on watching it a 2nd time in theaters on Monday, but people need to chill out with the hype. You can't put Dune 2 above The Godfather 2, The Empire Strikes Back, Star Trek: The Wraith of Khan, Aliens and many others.

Name some other actor who could play Oppenheimer other than Cillian Murphy. Besides his body language and tone and pace of dialogue he even LOOKS like Oppenheimer.

Best Sequels of all time are Empire Strikes Back, Before Sunset, and Paddington 2

As feeling in minority, glad to hear him sense Part II doesn’t come close to other sequels.

Barbie is fast food entertainment and has no business being nominated for best picture over several movies from last year including The Iron Claw. I don't think Poor Things is this masterpiece like some people make it out to be, but Emma Stone is great and should win her 2nd Oscar. I think Hollywood wants to pat themselves on the back by giving it to Lily.

Robert Downey Jr. winning an Oscar for Iron Man is a bad opinion, IMO. He basically plays himself in the movie - a jokey, sarcastic, goofy guy that gets to act as a superhero for a few hours. He is likeable and a great fit for the role, but it's basically just playing off of his personality and one of many similar, tight, and now almost interchangeable comic book movie scripts. You might as well give an Oscar to Tobey Maguire, Christian Bale, Tom Hiddleston, Josh Brolin, and Paul Rudd too for their respective super-hero/villain roles. If there were an Oscar for best comic book movie performance, which they probably could have by now, then yes, RD Jr. probably would deserve one, maybe even two. As far as his Oppenheimer performance, it is good, but this is the part of the movie that I did not like. It felt like another Nolan side-plot that he wanted to tie in thematically and temporally as he usually does, just to add more soap opera drama. I didn't find it to be an essential role, or perhaps an overblown role, even if RD Jr. did do a good job with it.

Emma Stone: versatility, range, physicality and she IS her film. Lily Gladstone gives an emotionally charged SUPPORTING performance and what she has to offer for the win is (drum roll) narrative. First Native American to win an Oscar. That is such bull****. Narrative over merit? Incredible😤

The best sequel of all time should be based on how much of an improvement it is to the first film. I think with that criterion Terminator 2 is probably the best sequel of all time by a long distance. Empire Strikes Back is a strong contender, and Toy Story 2 is also up there too, as you said. Dune 2 is one of the greatest scifi films ever made, but Dune 1 was already great. Plus, there's an argument to say that Dune 2 isn't even a real sequel, it's the second part of a two part movie that was planned to be two part to begin with. None of the earlier examples about "sequel" really is like this. So it really isn't a sequel as it is the second part of a whole thing.

The Wrath of Khan is the best if you go by those standards and I like T1 over T2.

@@Mickey-1994 T1 was a complete B picture. It had really bad acting all around and had uneven pacing and really janky special effects. I think you're among the 0.01% of the population who thinks T1 is better.

@@EddieHenderson92 I disagree. I think The Godfather 1 was a great film already, and 2 is a slightly different narrative style but is about on par. The reason people loved 2 had to do with their irrational worship of Robert De Niro.

I didn’t love Oppenheimer, i thought it was fine… too long, too overwrought… the performances were one note after the 90 minute mark. The last hour was bloated and unnecessary. I’ll give it that it’s well made and cilian Murphy was very good.. but I didn’t love it. There are documentaries on Oppenheimer. I got an enjoyable appetizer but where’s the full meal?

How about no host? Waste of time. Presenters present without stupid banter? Show clips of performances. Do like BAFTA & SAG: winners, keep your gratitude short. Somebody collect all sheets of notes from winners. We know you thank your relatives dead and alive, your co-stars and director, and Jesus Christ. Enough!
