When it comes to looks alone, I prefer the design of the V-strom as it looks more enduro-like, which I like better. The Africa Twin looks too much like a racing machine.

Good review. I own a 2020 1050 XT, succeeding a Honda Crosstourer. What is worthwhile to mention is the versatility of the bike. I can cruise with my wife, she rides a honda 500 rebel, or go with my friends and their GS's on a fast ride. My previous Crosstourer always made go too fast, cruising wasn't an option. I guess this an often overlooked feature, the ability to cruise

      It's an interesting about cruising.

V-strom, but I’ve always been partial to Suzuki. The Honda could very well the be better bike, but I’ve personally had bad luck with Hondas. I also like how understated the vstrom is. It’s a quiet, gentle, yellow giant.

The brakes on the V-Strom? Amazing. Also the IMU and Electronics that has your back are often not considered in reviews. Btw the brakes are linked from 2018 model

I recently toured for a week with my mate, he has the AT DCT. A very fine bike but I could not try it as it's too tall, he is 6' me 5'10" ( I can't touch down). My 2005 Tiger 955i with custom seat is just OK in boots, Tiger is a bit faster when needed, has better weather protection with taller screen and bigger luggage capacity. Looks great to me in orange too. I know little about the V-Strom except the motor is excellent.
In summary, if you fancy the Africa Twin and tall enough, have a test ride. It could be the only bike you'll ever need.

Fair comments. Good Job. Maybe it would be better to compare 21 inch new 2023 vstrom1050DE to a manual gearbox AT adv sports? Cheers and ride safe&fun.

I'm personally not really convinced to the idea of a V-Strom with a 21" in the front. But maybe at some point it will trigger more of my interest. Well, it is interesting but I just don't exactly get the idea of it. It's like a 4x4 lifted van to me - just cannot process the concept itself. Still, the most common choice I believe is the regular version of the 1050.

I test rode a V-Strom 1050 a few months ago and found it to be gutless. Sure, it takes off pretty quickly, but just as I was expecting it to "go go go" it ran out of steam. Very underwhelmed.

Good review. The only real surprise is that the Africa Twin was rated better in high speed cornering. i would think that the 21" front wheel would hurt the Africa twin in that category.

As you mentioned for Off-road the Standard Version is way better and feels much more agile than the Adventure Sports version. It really feels like a completely different bike. 😉

easy decision for v-strom, suzuki reliability is unmatched, less tech crap, looks better, rides better, stops better. both are too heavy for hard offroad use so any offroad advantage beyond that of a bumpy gravel road is wasted.

It feels like in every review of any bike....you identify deal breakers. What are your favorite bikes? What bikes do you currently own? What bikes do you thoroughly love?

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  Год назад +10

Deal-breakers depend on one's perspective. Within this segment I enjoy a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R and BMW R 1250 GS the most. It doesn't mean though that some may not have love towards the Africa Twin for what it is or despite its downsides. I'm not sure about the current V-Strom which doesn't appear as a V-Strom from the past anymore, so I guess that it needs people who will start loving it for its features. Still, both R 1250 GS and KTM 1290 SAR have its weak spots too. Nothing is perfect but the key is to be aware of that I believe.

@VToldsMotoShow Definitely give it s try it works great when I am moving slowly through traffic. I even use it when I stop at traffic light. I slowly release it as the DCT loads up like I would a clutch. It also really helps me keep the bike centered when moving slow because without a clutch I felt like the dct model I was leaning slightly off center for some reason 🙂

I don't think so. This way BMW R 1250 GS should never be compared to AT. I really don't see the point of a 1050DE's existence for now. Perhaps if I ride it, I will change my mind but seeing it the way it is, a V-Strom with a raised front end and a 21" front wheel doesn't make much sense to me.

  • @BelleMorue

I find much better bike in trail, I use a monkey bike and launch the motorcycle over obstacles, the limit is my arms capability. You can't find better motorcycle off-road in this way except if you are really strong with bigger arms. I have seen an Africa twin riding in the night on highway, I prefer to be on cruiser motorcycle, they don't have any lights behind this motorcycle, nothing to compare with the honda goldwing which one is much more a Christmas tree in the night than a motorcycle. Don't ride a highway in the night with this motorcycle or add lights.

Not sure if it would be of any help to anyone. Off-roading is so much more about the rider, place of riding, choosing a specific path and tires. It’s way different from what 99% of owners do with their adventure motorcycles, myself included. I’m not competent in off-road riding on 200+ kg motorcycles. Used to ride dirt bikes years ago but exactly - they were dirt bikes. Thanks for the hint though.
